NBA 2021-2022

Woj now reporting that Blazers want to reshape around Lillard and get some big players in with the assets collected. Hopeless.

Yeah I’m fuming. Going to switch to Charlotte, Cleveland or whatever FFS. Always knew I should not be adopting those hipster teams.

Pacers have traded Sabonis, Lamb and a 2027 second round pick for Halliburton, Hield and Tristan Thompson.

I think it’s a decent deal for both to be honest. Did not think Kings would give up Halliburton though but they needed a competent big and some change. Their backcourt actually feels light now.

I think that deal is absolutely awful in the long run for the Kings. Haliburton is a great player with plenty of upside, whenever Fox didn't play his numbers shot up all while still being an efficient shooter and very solid facilitator that barely commits turnovers. I have no idea why the Kings want to build Fox, who just.... well... isn't very good.
Also: Sabonis is good, but he won't move the needle far enough for Sacramento to push upwards. And in two years when his contract runs out he'll probably get out of Sacramento asap while Indiana can resign Haliburton as an RFA.

At least Haliburton got out of basketball hell and gets to play under a really good coach now, but being a Kings fan must be utter misery.

As a Dallas fan I know the pain of having an FO that still believes they can strike it big in the off season.

I wouldn’t want to give up Haliburton but him and Fox isn’t ideal, and Sabonis is a very good player. Also, they are selling him very high - I am not necessarily 100% sure he will be that good long term.

Good point about having control over Haliburton for much longer.

Then dump Fox. I don't get why they hang on to him like that, he is one of the worst Nr.1s on a team I can imagine. Inefficient, not a great facilitator, can't shoot.
I have no doubts Haliburton will rise up the PG ranks rapidly in Indiana once he is the primary ball handler. He's one of those "playing winning basketball" type of players. And on top of it all he actually wanted to be in Sacramento, the poor soul.

Since it's the Kings Sabonis will probably demand a trade in 11 months, leaving them in the middle of nowhere once again.

Why would they trade the guard who actually fits better with Sabonis? Maybe Indiana had no interest in Fox but it's a little strange. Now they have a 4/5 with an unreliable 3-point shot and a PG with the same issue.

You’ll still hopefully get to see the Jays and the mighty Time Lord! :p
Will be pretty funny to miss the big three and instead watch the Jays destroy Bruce Brown, Patty Mills and Blake Griffin.
You should go anyway for the experience of watching a game at MSG. If you haven't visited before, it's probably the best fan experience in terms of atmosphere.
I'm seriously tempted. Any recommendation on which seats to get? I.e. at what point are you too far away from the action that it's not worth paying for a cheaper ticket? On this link, are blocks 213/226 too far out?

Just Kings things

I guess Indiana didn’t want Fox indeed. Hield will be easier to move if they want to clear up space.

Nobody would offer fair value for Fox with the season he’s been having, and he had been actually good prior to this year. He was improving up until last season and then somehow regressed in 21-22. He was borderline All-Star in 20-21.

I think Haliburton is a bit overrated and Fox is underrated currently. So they cashed in on the former, but I’m seeing their fans aren’t super happy about it.

The 100's section has the best view.

However section 213/226 won't be too far out! My only recommendation is aim for a lower row (i,e 1-10) rather than say row 20.

Either way, not a bad seat in the house after they renovated a few years ago.

Madison Square Garden is called the 'World's Most Famous Arena' for a reason! SO many classic sporting events took place there.

If you go, also recommend getting a New York slice across the street at NY Pizza Suprema.

Now thinking about it, Portland’s roster is hilarious after these trades. May genuinely not win another game this year.

Over the last 4 days we traded all our forwards in both deals. So we are left with:

Out for the season: Lillard, Little, Zeller

Guard: Bledsoe, Simons, Satoransky, Hart, Alexander-Walker, Smith Jr, Keon Johnson

Forwards: Winslow, Watford, Brown III

Centers: Nurkic

So basically the only forwards on the roster are Winslow and two-way players, and your only center is likely to be traded by the deadline. But you do have 7 guards! Hart might get some time at 3/4 but otherwise none of those guys can play anything other than guard positions.

Apparently they want to re-sign Nurkic in the Summer but they should let him go regardless, may as well pick him off free agency in July. His cap hold is higher than what he will get in FA anyway.

We are 21-33 now so reckon it won’t end up above 27-28 wins. We won’t beat Magic, Rockets, Thunder and Pistons but have a chance against anyone else at bottoming out.

I'm genuinely terrified that Portland will catch us in the reverse standings. We play each other two more times and, honestly, if SGA is playing I can't see how OKC don't win.

Wow I have to say this Suns win over the 76ers tonight was one of the most impressive wins of the season by any team. Consider that it was a road game on a back-to-back against a team with a rest day and that the Suns were coming off a hard-fought win against a similarly good team (Bulls). The way they out-executed the 76ers and slowed down Embiid (the MVP-in-waiting arguably) just enough in the 4th was remarkable. Also, the Suns shot only 6-26 from 3 (23.1%) while the 76ers made 10-32 from 3 (31.3%). Usually teams on a back to back are at their worst in the 4th but the Suns had their best quarter in the 4th too.

Suns didn't shot particularly well, but their execution especially in the 4th has been outstanding this season. If your team lead only in single digit vs the Suns into the 4th quarter, they still most likely win the game. No fancy stuff, just relentless execution and break teams down.
Also Sabonis trade to Kings, I don't see how that's a good thing for them. They lacked shooting all season and they just trade their two best shooters? Doesn't make any sense. Even if Fox returns to his previous season form, they still don't have enough shooters

Thanks mate, much appreciated.

what a year to be a united and lakers fan

Ouch.
But it's the Lakers, one of the few teams that will always be so intriguing to free agents that they'll never be gone from contention for too long. They are literally to big and popular to fail as a franchise.

RJ Barrett injured after Thibs left the starters in garbage time when the Knicks were down 15 on the second night of a back to back ...

Simmons for Harden apparently getting some traction according to Windhorst. Might look like a bad deal for Brooklyn now but I really reckon it is the right move. They are going nowhere this year with how clinically insane Kyrie is as he just won’t get the vaccine, and I think whoever gives Harden that next contract (which will finish at $60M a year when he’s like 35 or something) will come to regret that. They gave up a haul for him and it will go down as a very bad deal but if they can salvage that by getting Simmons and a couple more assets, it will still be fairly OK.

Funny one but Jarrett Allen was a basically an throw-in in that deal that was worth a late first from Cleveland and he’s been the best performer of all players involved since, and will have been the best asset offered for Harden by far.

This makes sense for Nets considering that they cannot defend, and Simmons is one of the best defenders in the league. They will be fine in attack, when KD returns.

If Simmons is ready to defend, distribute and rebound, it's a great deal for the Nets. Harden is a free agent this summer, aging and not the best fit for a team that already has Irving and Durant.

Apparently Portland are looking to tank to bundle up their pick with Pelicans pick to get one of Grant/Turner. It sounds ridiculous but I really think this franchise is capable of trading no. 4 and no. 8 picks in the draft for Jerami Grant.

It's so weird to see the Wolves bench wake up just before the trade deadline. It could be a blessing or a disaster.

It took a full minute to understand those two sentences. Are you being incredibly flippant or it's a serious rumour?

Apparently it’s just a mention on one of the podcasts so hopefully not a genuine rumor. But people are actually discussing this and some even think it’s an OK idea because ‘we need to give Lillard a chance to win the chip’. This notion has been so ridiculous for the last two years.

I actually had to read it again. With 4th and 8th, you wait for the lottery and depending on how high you land, the play is to maybe trade Lillard not trade for Grant or anyone, depending on your finance you could even be active in free agency. Those picks could change your franchise for a decade which is a lot better than gamble everything on a 32 years old Lillard and Grant.

Now, I like the age of Myles Turner but with the boneheaded deal that the Kings mustered, he should be the anchor of the new age Pacers. Turner, Haliburton, Duarte and Hield looks like a solid base.

4th and 8th was a tongue in the cheek, we don’t know where this picks will be. I don’t think Pelicans pick is even going to convey this year as chances are they will make the playoffs. Our own pick should definitely be top 5-6 though barring major bad luck in the lottery. Trading away picks to get ‘veteran help’ for Lillard is exactly the reason why the franchise was in such a grim place this year. They should have realized long ago that while Lillard is great, he’s not a top 5 player that can win you the title by just having good players around him. He’s been part of that narrative too, to be fair, questioning the franchise and asking them to make moves. When Lillard is your best player then you need another one very close to him, and perhaps a third one who is top 5-10 in their position as well and then you may win it as a collective. He isn’t Durant, Giannis, LeBron or Curry. The only chance was either trading CJ at his peak and past that it would have been hitting draft picks and hoping they develop in 2-3 years into players that can help right now or can be traded for high value.

It feels like reading about KAT and the Wolves. Hopefully they actually got lucky with D-Lo, Edwards and Vanderbilt and McDaniels.

We’ve just traded Alexander-Walker for a second round pick to Jazz. I give up.

I just realized you traded Larry Nance Jr? Isn't that a terrible deal for the Blazers?

I just realized you traded Larry Nance Jr? Isn't that a terrible deal for the Blazers?
No, why. We will probably get a 18-25 pick in 2023 draft, Josh Hart and a second round pick for both him and CJ. That is an amazing record. We’ve just traded our whole roster for one first and two seconds.

@Sarni At least you're getting Ingles, who's one of the most wholesome dudes in the league...
No idea how it feels to have almost your team slip away within 2 days, I don't know how you can stand it.
