NBA 2021-2022

Manchester born and bred. Grew up watching Best, Law and Charlton, but have been in the US for nigh on 40 years.

BTW Jordan was something else. Used to watch the Bulls on superstition WGN back in the 90s. Still get chills when I hear the "Sirius" intro music.

....."from North Carolina, Michael Jordan" and then of course the crowd would go crazy.

Lucky you....im not quite sure what the modern day version would be of the Holy trinity from our current squad.....

Ahhhh the Sirius Bulls intro, it does give chills and makes me feel very nostalgic.

No i'm not....I'm from England

My best mate's dad is from Chicago, massive Bulls fan and as a result his son and I also started following them.

I can just about remember the 97 and 98 rings....MJ hype was crazy and his dad somehow managed to make two 10-13 year old lads realise just what MJ meant to the sport and the team at the time. In the UK NBA viewing was slim to none at the time but MJ imprinted on me, similar to how Cantona did at the time.

Guessing most of the regulars on this thread are from the states yeh ?
Kind of. I was born in San Francisco and my family lived in the Bay Area at the time though my parents are both Irish. We moved back to Ireland when I was a kid and I lived there most of my life. After the move we spent a lot of summers in California and in college I started coming to the east coast for summer jobs and then my now fiancée. Moved back to the US a few years ago. As a kid I inherited my dad’s sports teams which were ( of course United), 49ers, Warriors, and I guess Oakland A’s although since I learned baseball mostly through my cousins who are staunch Giants fans, I probably keep more of an eye on their results now(he liked the A’s colours more than the orange of the Giants). He much prefers football and baseball to basketball, and I wouldn’t say that’s the case for me, although when I sit down to watch baseball it’s a pretty good sport.

I will likely be going on a road trip on the West coast in late April/early May so somewhere towards the end of first round of the playoffs and conference semifinals.

Can I expect tickets to still be somewhat affordable (under $400 per ticket is what I consider the limit) for Suns, Warriors and Lakers or will they already be ridiculous? I think there should be a chance with Suns but less so with Warriors or Lakers. Clippers probably won’t make it that far anyway.

Glad the states worked out well for you mate.

I do love American sports but can’t get into baseball at all in terms of watching it. I’ve never actually watched a World Series either.

Nice selection of teams you inherited too, plenty of distractions when United lose right :D

Brilliant

It is…I would have been happy just to make playoffs at start of the season. Getting greedy and thinking maybe division final….shouldn’t have said that.

Also @Terry Chango in 07-08 there I was thinking Tevez Rooney Ronaldo would be the new trinity

:lol::lol::lol:

Hawks really chaotic in the last few minutes here. 3 TOs in the last 2 minutes and sloppy handling all around.

funny moment a few minutes ago where Young and CP3 bumped into each other. Young threw his head back to accentuate the contact.Called a foul, CP3 imitated him complaining to the refs, then a Hawks fan in the crowd yells “you do the same thing Chris Paul!”

I do wonder how important 1st seed vs 2nd ends up mattering in the West.

If Kawhi or Paul George return after the ASB, decent chance that Clippers finish 7th. Having to go Clippers, Grizz, Suns/Warriors, Nets/Bucks/Heat/76ers is very tough route to win.

Fair play to Trae shooting lights out tonight, hard to hit 20 3s in 4 games out of 7 though.

Eight wins in a row for the Dubs. Anticlimactic 2nd half. Basically played out time.

Jonathan Kuminga is going to be a star.

How are the Warriors the 2nd best defense in the NBA?

Opponent PPG:
1) 102.5 Cleveland
2) 102.7 Golden State
3) 103.8 Dallas

Last seasons they were 18th out of 30, and before that 24/30

2020-21:
1) 104.7 New York
2) 106.8 Lakers
18) 112.7 Golden State

2019-20:
1)106.5 Toronto
2) 107.3 Boston
24) 115.0 Golden State

That's wild. What's going on?! I know Green is a great defender but wow.

I don't think it'll be tickets prices that stops you from watching the Lakers in the playoffs...

 think they will make it through the play-in. I am honestly hoping to see Suns though, a ticket to Lakers v Bucks in regular season cost me $250 three years ago so I imagine it will be at least three times that in the playoffs.

Team defense and effort. They were not putting anywhere near the same type of effort for the past two seasons. They have plenty of good defenders across the team. GP2 is a superb defender for instance, I think JTA is quite good on that end too.

GP2, JTA, Wiggins Green,, Iggy all talented defenders. The first two especially bring great energy. Curry playing the best defence of his career.

last night was actually a pretty poor defensive night I thought, at least when we took our foot off the gas. All the turnovers in the third quarter did not help

Blazers have just basically traded Powell and Covington for a 2025 second round pick to Clippers. I am lost for words, this franchise should just be closed down at this point. How the hell do you accept a deal like that six days before deadline? I mean you must be able to at least get a better pick for Covington who is an expiring deal and Powell at $15m a year is not negative value either FFS (not to mention he’s probably a better player to keep than CJ).

Watch them trade Simons for a second round pick and CJ for an expiring now.

The only explanation for that deal is that someone at Clippers has some serious dirt on Blazers FO, it’s unbelievably bad

I actually dread the day they will decide to trade Dame and will get Harrison Barnes and a second round pick for him.

The initial trades for Covington and Powell were bad deals for the Blazers but it's impressive to try and correct those mistakes with another bad trade, surely there was a better haul of assets to get back than that. I hope they find a trade for Dame soon because they're wasting his time with a team that's going nowhere and wasting their own time treading water rather than fully embracing a rebuild.

Well how about Gary Trent Jr, who is absolutely balling at Toronto now at 23, and two first round picks for a 2025 Detroit second round pick?

They will probably trade Dame for Davis Bertans and Spencer Dinwiddie, straight up.

For what it's worth Suns/nuggets tickets were starting at $200+ last year in the playoffs. Plenty of people were complaining about the price increase compared to the regular season where tickets were about $13-$30.

This season Suns tickets for regular season is starting at $50...

Plenty of people on the Suns sub were complaining about the ridiculous price gouge.

Brooklyn open to trading Harden.

I think Harden for Simmons would actually be a good deal for both sides. Harden may leave in the Summer anyway, and I think whoever will offer him that obscene contract in the Summer will end up regretting that, at the same time short term he’s the best asset Philly can get for Simmons.

That’s until Blazers offer Dame, Simons and three firsts for Simmons.

This Nets superteam has been a pretty remarkable failure.
You need a strong manager or the superstar players end up running the team. You won't find an NBA player without a trainer who pushes them when exercising, but if they can get away with running the team themselves many want to do it. LeBron James thought he was good at building a team now look at LA. No accountability in Brooklyn, they need a cold blooded Larry Brown type coach who will bench them all with no emotional reaction at all. Do your job you're back in.

Reminds me of United under Ole.

I truly dislike this Lakers team. It has no chemistry nor does it have any cohesion.

I'm going to New York at the end of February, and excitedly bought tickets to Celtics vs. Nets. At this rate it's looking like I'm not going to see any of the big three.

Philly actually play at the Knicks on my final day of the trip - half tempted to buy tickets for that one, in case the Harden trade actually happens.

Cleveland got LeVert. This was expected but I thought they would give them Sexton. Rubio plus a first that will probably be in the 20s is a good deal. Houston second is valuable though.

thoughts on Kidd? Him and Dallas doing well pretty quietly contrary to the popular belief at the time of appointment as people laughed at it and were saying it will end up in disaster.

Pretty well? Dallas are pretty much in the same spot as last year. A first playoff round exit is looming.

They are doing slightly better than expected but are still not amazing, wouldn't expect them to be though with their team around Luka being quite underwhelming and Luka himself having a worse statistical season. They are well behind Suns, Warriors and even Grizzlies.

Its a pretty average team built around Luka who is special so reckon nobody should be expecting serious stuff from them. Until they get him some help getting to the playoffs and maybe winning one series should be seen as a very good job. Everything more should be seen as great.
As for Luka, yeah his shooting is a bit shit this season but last few games he is hitting some form i reckon + think he improved on the defensive end this season.

Powell had a pretty nice debut for Clippers despite the loss. Apparently he had no clue Blazers were shopping him and just bought a house in Portland. For a team that is already not a free agent destination it’s not a good look to trade a player six months into his 5-year contract, disregarding the appalling return of 2025 second round pick.

Supposedly front office still sees Dame and CJ as the foundation and are willing to offer Simons a good contract in the Summer so basically Powell was the odd man out. Ridiculous roster management.

Absolutely feel the same. Canceled my league pass right after the Westbrook trade and have not watched a single minute of the Lakers all season. The whole LeBron experiment has been an abomination. Would have loved seeing a home grown team (Randle/Ingram/Ball/etc.) try and do things. Anything besides this crap. Not even worth the single asterisked title.

If you get lucky and LeBron follows his usual pattern, he'll be off when he finally decides that this team is going nowhere. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he showed up back in Cleveland to work his "magic" there and feck up the Cavs roster with more 2012 all stars.

Cleveland, as a city, knows how to tell someone to f*ck off, but fans didn't seem as bitter the second time he left, I can see that happening.

Westbrook may end up like the ghost of Baron Davis, getting booed by the owners on a team outside the playoffs.

I just don't understand 40m for Westbrook it's just crazy. Also trading everything away that made the defense that won the title. It's just unbelievable. Also don't understand AJ he is just such a stranger player, soft and non combative large man. If LeBron wanted Westbrook he surely needs to channel his 40ppg regularly. This team is just unlikable and has nothing likable about it. Monk and Reaves after the only thing that is positive about this group.

Don't you think you are supporting the wrong team in general if this is what you hope to see in your team?
