NBA 2018-2019

Not supposed to be a great draft this season.

Yep apparently after 4-5 top picks it declines significantly and not even those top 5 picks appear that sure of a bet. I think it’s Zion, then two other Duke guys and then the rest. Although I must say I like the look of Kevin Porter. Ja Morant looks like he has been built to be drafted by the Suns.

I think Keldon Johnson could be a top 5 pick - granted Kentucky is the only college team I follow but they've been better recently (Johnson was bad against Georgia though). The Duke trio is guaranteed top 5 imo.

I thought before the season that Barrett would be the #1 if you looked at how he did with Canada before he went to college, but now it seems Zion is the consensus #1 pick. I do have doubts however that he could come to the pros with that much weight, that'll definitely have an effect on injuries and stuff.

Klay 17/20, with 10/11 from deep. He's back
He was 10/10 from the three at some stage, an NBA records.

What is with Curry and dunks? He finally wanted to dunk, only to slip, somehow the ball still ending at him and then he tried to make a three-point shoot, to only make an airball.

I don't think he was dunking when he slipped, but perhaps I'm misremembering? And missing the 3 point makes sense having slipped like that a second or two earlier.

That is the amazing thing about Curry he is the first player in a long time that could be in best player in the World debates that plays completely below the rim. Yes I know Steve Nash has two MVPs but, he was never really considered as the best player in the World.

Neither was Steph to be fair. Bar a very short period of time, when some people lost their senses, and LeBron showed them that they were wrong.

Who needs a quality veteran PG? Maybe the Suns? But they're still in tank mode it seems.

AD also seeing a hand specialist. Out for 2-4 weeks. That will be the Pelicans finished for the season I think.

@adexkola seen the news that Memphis are entertaining offers for Conley and Gasol and want to rebuild, what are your feelings?

I don’t think return for Conley would be that amazing unless Grizzlies took a bad contract in return. He has a massive deal for two more years ($34.5million player option for 2020-21!), would not be a big upgrade at his position for most teams in the league and has had injury issues. I think Indiana would be a good destination because all that cap space is not worth much when they aren’t a free agent destination and they could use a better point guard, though they could only offer some expirings and half decent picks. Orlando and Phoenix need point guards but would probably look for someone younger. Spurs are always good for extending careers of older players.

As for Gasol it depends on what he plans next Summer. If he is going to opt out I could see Lakers moving for him to get a half season now.

Phoenix - they are in rebuild and could get Ja.

Orlando - same as above.

Indiana - not a free agent destination, lots of cap space and expirings, not many assets to send back but who’s actually going to trade assets for $67million of Conley.

Utah - Rubio has been fine but Conley would be an upgrade. They have expirings and picks, won’t send any young players probably. Their pick will not be that bad.

New Orleans - they are desperate to convince Davis to stay. They could send Hill, Moore and Johnson back with their pick and their pick will probably be lotto this year. Conley and Holiday is a good combo.

Gasol will not bring back good return.

At this point Grizzlies should be trying to free up cap space and get whatever picks they can get though. Jackson Jr will be one of their foundational pieces.

Right decision. Some will say this should have been done sooner, but in previous years having them healthy was enough to guarantee a good season and playoff run. This year that no longer applies unfortunately, and paradoxically, keeping Gasol will stunt Jackson Jr's development.

But there would have been no point in tanking the team's fortunes a few years ago and going back to being the opening act for college basketball (this was before Pau Gasol joined the team). There's more to life in the league than the mindset of being a strong contender or tanking. The GnG days were fun, despite the lack of a title. I'm sure Warrior fans familiar with the Run-TMC days can relate.

Conley still has a few good years in him. He's a good shooter, great facilitator, isn't a high usage player. Can defend his position well against the elite PGs in the league. For the most part he would sync really well in most league back-courts. I see him working well with Popovich. Indiana is a good fit alongside Oladipo. Dallas as well. It all comes down to the money he is owed (and he earned every penny on that fecking contract, I'm tired of people acting as if he was overpaid, feck outta here), and what teams would be willing to let go in exchange for a top 10 PG. I do see him being traded before the season is over.

Gasol will most likely opt out end of the season. As to where he goes, I have less clarity on that. I can see him working well with LeBron, they think alike with regards to facilitating the game. It would be a waste to see him not go to a contender.

Conley could also work with Phoenix as well alongside Booker (who I think I underrate sometimes). That's a solid backcourt. Plus I rate Igor.

That’s another team that probably won’t get much talent in free agency and need a point guard. The issue is matching salaries and giving correct assets to Memphis.

Then again they have Anderson’s expiring, send that plus Josh Jackson and another expiring and it should enough. I doubt they would be including their pick even though they apparently aren’t keen on adding more young players, that’s an overpay for Conley. Jackson would actually fit in well and could be a good piece for Grizzlies.

For teams like Indiana all the cap they save aside should be exactly for this type of situation. You are never getting a player this good in free agency if you are them anyway. Conley, Oladipo and Turner is a defensive force. They also want to challenge now so trading for him in the middle of the season would not spoil tanking like in Phoenix case.

Of course he earned his contract, at his best he’s a top 10 point guard in the league.

I just found out that my company is sending me to LA in February, checked and Clippers are playing Dallas when I am there and Staples Center is just opposite of HQ of my company.

Obviously I want to go to that game but was considering what seats to get. My budget is basically unlimited as it will be my first NBA game live, my company is paying for the entire trip and I will probably get a big bonus in early March so will have spare money.

I wanted to get courtside ticket for $500 but was wondering what that actually means - is this really the very first row or just one of the early rows?

I don't know because I've never had that kind of money but make sure you dont sit behind either basket

Yeah I thought so, I will look for sideline tickets. I’m probably wasting money here but I will never have opportunity to spend a week and a half in Los Angeles for free so may as well spend extra on my first NBA game ever.

Also next time we go there I’ll be with my wife who will murder me at the thought of spending $500 on a fecking game. It’s now or never.

At Houston I attended few games mostly cheaper ones and for less than a 100$ I was like 8 rows far from court, amazing experience though if you can find at similar price.

I think the true on court seats cost like 8000 or something
Even for a team nobody is that interested in?

I think at Hornets they basically pay you to sit there.

That sounds great actually. Clippers v Mavs should definitely be a cheaper game.

Yeah. They're for corporations to buy season tickets for and give to customers / vendors / clients.

Feck. I doubt my company will give me any even if they have some

I seem to remember that previous CEO had some very good Lakers seats, think they were $240k a piece for season.
