NBA 2018-2019

Simmons put on a clinic against the Spurs. And he had the key defensive play at the death to deny Spurs any chance of winning.

Harden is simply ridiculous. He's playing 2K out there.

Though 5/20 from deep is bad.

Since we don't have a college basketball forum, gotta mention my Tennessee Vols winning again tonight. Bit lucky and had to fight back from six down with a little over a minute to go. Grant Williams, what a beast 43 points and 23-23 from the FT line. Last time we were number 1 in 2008 went to Vanderbilt and lost. Thought the same thing was going to happen again but the lads came through. Go Vols!

.....oh! and the Nets won again!

What an awful night. First the James Harden free throw bonanza extravaganza hit NY, with him shooting 25FTs and with the usual amount of theatrics and bad calls. 5/20 from 3, if Westbrook shot like that people would say he's selfish and to stop shooting 3s.

Then Oladipo's injury, got to feel for him, just came back from another injury layoff and this looked bad. Hopefully it's not season ending. Indiana have some real awful luck with injuries.

Just looking at Houston tonight, PJ Tucker 39 minutes 5 shots, Austin Rivers 34 minutes 7 shots. When Kobe, AI et al used to play like this they were called selfish, stat chasers etc but Harden gets a pass from the media. The Rockets are awful to watch. Hopefully someone bounces them in the first round of the playoffs.

Not really an NBA story but, the coach here did play in the NBA a tiny bit. But, you guys might find it interesting considering what happened with Manchester United this summer.

It turns out I will actually be there a bit longer and will be able to see Lakers v Pelicans and Lakers v Bucks :D

I'll be going for cheaper tickets then to see all three games. I will see Giannis live!

It's a Harden show right now, he's basically got MVP in his bag IMO. I don't necessarily like it as I think Giannis deserves it more for his team's success but they will not neglect a player who will probably average 37+ points over the course of season. Then again if Giannis did not share the ball at all and just went to the basket on every play he'd probably get to 35+ as well. Bucks would not be 34-12 but he'd have better stats. Giannis plays with lots of good players though.

Harden is on a streak of 263 straight unassisted points. Absurd. This shouldn't be possible.

Hard to get an assist from some players who see the ball only in the training, to be fair. He has gone full Westbrook.

He is not shooting better than the rest of the team.
That's not how it works man. It's been discussed to death here.

He's taking tougher shots and has to combat defensive schemes designed specifically to stop him. And doing that again and again. He shot 5/14 from deep in the first three quarters yesterday and finished 5/20 because his legs were entirely gone in the fourth. Happens all the time. It's insane what he's doing, his usage is unprecedented and there is a reason for it. "He's selfish" is too simplistic.

And he can't just stop taking the shots. The entire offensive system is built around that attention he's getting. I'm not saying there isn't a better alternative but it's just not that simple as "pass more", especially with their personnel right now.

Houston players that Harden is currently playing with:

  • PJ Tucker
  • Eric Gordon (only came back recently)
  • Austin Rivers
  • Kenneth Faried
  • Gerald Green
  • James Ennis III
  • Gary Clark

How many of them would start at any other NBA team? I'd say Tucker at maybe 10-12 teams and a fit Gordon the same.

Meh, not really. Him and Westbrook have always been similar when it comes to being ball dominant. Harden has just taken it a step further now. I'd say he's gone 'full Harden'.

This is why I don't watch regular season NBA anymore. I'm not sure I'll watch playoffs either.

It's really ruining the game for me. NBA is probably my favourite sport, but this rubbish is just beyond a joke. Harden got 25 of his points from FT's last night. He is a great player, but all these huge points totals have a bit of an asterix on them for me.

I honestly don't understand why NBA is allowing this type of refereeing. Fans seem to hate it, pundits hate it, and the fact that the refereeing changes in the playoffs mean that players need to adapt when it matters most. It serves no purpose at all.

I watched the last 4 minutes and overtime. Horrible flagrant 1 call, horrible court layout, horrible atmosphere.

The flagrant foul call was definitely dubious, that's why I thought we were a bit lucky. I also agree about the court layout. Vanderbilt is odd in that the benches are at both ends instead of on the sides, I don't t like that. Disagree about the atmosphere - seemed pretty good to me.

He shoots a lot because his teammates are shite, still averaging over 8 assists a game.

I know, I have actually defended him here and said that multiple times but team success should IMO also play a big part in this award. Yes, I’m aware it’s an individual award.

It doesn’t matter though because Giannis will be Finals MVP which is better anyway.

So, buddy. Any chance you'll invite your dear pal giorno to join you? :D

Haha, sure! Living the dream over the last week, first I got asked by my director last Friday whether I wouldn’t like to apply for manager of my team position, then I got the news about LA trip and today it turned out I am actually quite likely to get the job as well and I found out the trip will be a bit longer and allow me to catch Pelicans and Bucks games. :D

You get to see giannis live. There must be nothing quite like watching giannis live. Must be like the basketball equivalent of original ronaldo, where your brain just doesn't comprehend what your eyes are seeing

It’s very likely LeBron will be on the same court so should be a good show all around.

Lakers tickets are mad expensive. Like fifteen times the price of Clippers tickets on Viagogo. I’m dithering about Pelicans game but will probably still go. So incredibly excited!

Have a good one bro, hopefully no blowouts.
