NBA 2018-2019

It's a tough situation tbh . Kerr would never play him if there was a chance of injury but NBA has superstars and having worked so hard for 7 months KD would obviously have wanted to give it a go . So now how do you stop your superstar specially when it's the NBA championship on the line
This wasn’t a trivial hamstring or quad injury though. I can see the logic of throwing Iguodala and Klay straight back in with their respective injuries but with a calf injury flirting with the risk of Achilles damage you don’t feck with that.

The coach needs to take the blame on this one, or fire the doctor that gave him the green light.

Damn, gotta hope it's maybe a strain and not a rupture.

I can see a "Win one for the Gipper" mentality here.

Would you guys say he is out for all of next season?

Players will always want to play, especially in the finals. It’s up to the organisation and medical staff to make the correct call, even if it’s at odds with the player.

With the way the warriors were shooting, and equally how awfully the raptors were, they could have still feasibly won the game and perhaps had KD more ready for game 6 or 7. Now they definitely have to make do without him, and it’s not like the Raptors are going to fall for the suspenseful mind games seeing as everyone who watched that game knows he’s out for a lengthy period.
He was huge in the first half, and seemed to have given the team a morale boost. I think they made the right decision to play him, as unfortunate as his injury was.

They didn't throw him in directly though, he was out for a month . It's impossible for a Doctor to overrule a superstar in this scenario

I think Nick Nurse has had a really good series though. He really hasn't made many mistakes - in the playoffs as a whole to be honest.
As baffling as that timeout was I think he’s been brilliant. Very smart with his matchups and in game management throughout the playoffs and has his team playing lovely basketball too.

Such a breath of fresh air compared to Caseys dire DeMar ISO ball definition of madness.

It was bad luck in the end and if he stayed healthy with the warriors winning it would have been lauded as a masterful gamble.

Trouble is, with gambles like these if they go wrong they go very wrong as we’ve seen. Still think it was an irresponsible call.

A month for a possible Achilles injury is nothing as far as recovery goes. Throwing him into a high intensity high stakes game like this from the offset was madness too.

He didn't have an Achilles first time though

How long would you guys say he will be out for?

It's not uncommon to injure related muscle groups when returning from a significant injury.

I doubt he'll be back for game six or seven
.
If it's a bad one I'm not sure he'd be back for a game six or seven in the finals of 2020. Cousins was out about a year.

People are just coming up with theories with nothing to back it . In reality any superstar in any sport will try to force their way to play in the biggest match of the year. You think Messi would miss the CL final if he had a chance to play ?

Well that much is obvious was thinking more so about next season. January, February return? or out the whole year.

Depends on the severity. As I posted above Cousins was out about a year.

I've heard more than one person say that an achilles injury is the worst injury a basketball player can have. Especially a "big."

These finals have sucked. Celebrate a game 2 win in Toronto to retake home court and Klay gets hurt. Now save the season with a win in game 5 and KD has what could possibly be career threatening injury. Sports can be tough.

Probably a chance he picks up his player option now. I imagine teams will still offer him the max (he's Kevin freaking Durant) but who knows. The future of the entire league for the next five or so years can get shaped by these kinds of things.

KD is super-athletic though. Don't think that it will be as bad as Cousins'.

Even more of a reason why it can be devastating, he relies on his athleticism. Hope he’s fine and returns to full form in 2020-21. Maybe the extent of injury is not so bad and he can return around Q1 2020 in time for 2020 Playoffs already.

As for this series, Toronto have two shots at it now but they should have really ended it all last night. However as I said Warriors shot amazingly while they shot terribly and it still ended up a miracle 1-point loss after multiple bad errors in the final 3 minutes. If they aren’t able to take care of the business now, they never will.

I think he will still get massive offers from all the interested teams. Warriors will also offer him a super-max extension, I expect. If there had been any pressure on him to play (I doubt it), then they really have to offer that 1 minute past midnight July 1st.

Also had that feeling even before this game for some reason. But not so confident now after Lowry hit the feckin backboard on the last shot and how it all ended.

 cheers
Seriously, the Raptors, even in this bottled game, have shown they are simply better in general than this injury ridden team. It's just a matter of being patient and controlling your nerves now. It would have been nicer to wrap it all up in front of the home crowd though

That has cost many a great player/team a Championship though. Having Kawhi will be huge here. I'm not sure the lad has any emotions at all. The media make fun of it but I think the fact that nothing seems to bother him can be a huge help moving forward.

Knew it. Had a bad feeling Toronto won't be able to close this and they've pretty much blown it now. Can't see anything but a Warriors win now, they'll come crushing down at Oakland and with their championship experience and the lack of the same for most of the Raps, they'll be favourites for Game 7.

Unbelievable that after giving us all sorts of dominant shows they've even been able to give a comeback from 3-1 down.

Nah, I was like that yesterday but since calming down I would still expect Raptors to win. They’ve just been a much better overall team and both games they lost they couldn’t get going at all, and it was still super tight. They should be able to win 1 of 2 remaining games.
