NBA 2016-17

We won't get Nurkic back for either Utah game. He's out until playoffs at the very least.
That's why I said you could easily lose both. If he was still playing I believe you would have got at least a split. Either way, I think if you get to 41 wins, you're definitely in.

Ah, South Carolina won the Womens!

I would have put my mortgage on UConn winning that one. If I had a mortgage.
An NCAA Women's Final with two SEC schools and no Tennessee. Pat would be turning over in her grave. :(

Really pleased for Westbrook. He's played his heart out all season and with no hope of a championship it is nice knowing he'll at least go down this year making history.

Feck this crap. Losing to Utah was predictable but I really hoped Denver would lose at New Orleans. They are now 37-40 and we are 38-40 but we are playing without a center, against some of the teams with the best centers out there. 4 games at Moda Center now: Minnesota, Utah, San Antonio and New Orleans. We need to win at least 1, probably 2.

Warriors clinch 1st seed, that Lakers game was a mystery, Lakers were doing all they could to lose that game and still won lol

All things considered, Curry and LeBron are good players, aren't they?

On this impressive series of wins, Curry has been shooting as good as ever. Now, Warriors clinched the first place in the conference, and Durant will return for the final three games.

On the other side of 'Merica, James destroyed Celtics and unless Cavaliers lose 2 matches (and Celtics win all of the remaining games), Cavaliers will get the first spot in that conference. I thought that Boston might give them a match, but it seems that it will be the same story as last year.

Basically confirms Lakers as the third worst team in the league and gives them 44% chance to keep their pick, 6% or 7% lower than it would have been with 2nd worst record.

They go okay.

James showed up when it mattered, surprise surprise.

He always does. GSW are a different beast this season, but I wouldn't be completely shocked if the Cavs took the playoffs again. With Clutch Kyrie and Lebron you never know.

Yeah, my only concern is that he might have played a lot this season but I doubt it will matter a lot, they are likely gonna finish the conference series without going the full 7 and he should have enough rest.

I hope to see him go on the ultra offensive against this Warriors team. Their defense is there for the taking. But then, so is Cavs'.

Don't think he has much left in the tank tbh, but then again, i've been saying that for a while now. He's just a beast of a specimen, basically the Ronaldo of the NBA.

Level above, really.

James will be fresh for playoffs, he is inhuman. Arguably the biggest athlete I have seen in my life.

Who will be charged to 'try and defend' James? Green or Durant? Green is best/second best defender in the league, but good luck with it. Saying that, I cannot see anyone on Cavaliers team stopping Durant too. I think that a lot will be depended on Curry's form. If he tanks like last season, Cavaliers have a good chance, otherwise it would be really hard to play against Durant and Curry in defense (and don't forget Klay who can shoot from any position).

That is of course, assuming that Kawhi doesn't destroy some plans.

Yeah, and he's going a career transformation similar to Messi.
He's still very explosive, mind, and ridiculously efficient on top of that. But also getting more mature every season, he's happily taking the responsibility for the Cavs at the moment as their leader. That's the attitude he had last time and ended up leading in all 5 columns, he's a very scary player with that mindset.

The only reason I'm saying Cavs will win it is because I refuse to bet against James. Logic and common sense say GSW from everywhere I look at it but...

Level above, really.

Ye of course, just meant it as in no matter who they're up against they just look bigger and stronger than than the oppo and their physicality just makes them so difficult to deal with, whilst still being very technical

I think this season will be more forgiving for GSW if Curry bombs, Durant is phenomenal.

Kawhi doesn't quite have the supporting cast needed against these teams, on paper at least, you can never underestimate Pop. Especially against Dubs they will struggle on defense, as much as they need Gasol on scoring he will struggle against top teams on defense.

And yeah, Warriors and Cavs are made for each other, quality big men are littered everywhere, fecking Pelicans have two top ones and neither of these teams have any. And both teams have multiple elite scoring options, James and Kyrie on one side and Durant and Curry on the other. I doubt Klay will get much into the action. Both Curry and Durant bottled it in the playoffs last year and both would be looking to make up for that, let's see how that goes.

Is "tanks" a new word for "getting injured" ? Or is getting an injury just an excuse for bottling it?

Cavs won't make the finals anyway.

It's not as certain as it was last year and their shambolic form in March was more than just coasting, they definitely have to sort stuff out. However I'm not exactly betting against a guy who's been in the finals 6 years in a row and again is in the best team of his conference - though any team he is in pretty much automatically becomes that.

On a side note, this was the first time since November 2003 when Lebron lost double digit games in a month. wtf

Your tussle with Denver is probably the only interesting thing going on right now.
What about the three teams on the same record in the East but one of them missing out!

Think Miami will miss out in the end. They have tough schedule.

No interest in Westbrook/Harden and their insane numbers and performances?
Haha, Westbrook is why I watch basketball! :D
Think Russ will finish ahead in the end, and get the award. Glad he got the record and the triple double season average, amazing achievement.

Steph Curry during this current 13 game Warriors winning streak -

Average per game -

Mins: 33
FG: 50.2%
3PT: 46.6%

Points: 27.5
Ast: 8.2
Reb: 4.5
Stl: 2.3
TOv: 3

Those are some mighty impressive numbers - I know he went through a month long slump...but, the sacrifice he has had to make to his game to accommodate KD is not mentioned enough when talk about Steph not being a part of the MVP conversation.

So I find it odd that for the consensus, LeBron is coasting, yet he's gonna end up with his closest triple double stat line ever. Is the league broke this year?

Not really, just that LeBron is really good. Russ pads his stats on the other side (first in uncontested rebounds, on 39th position when it comes to 2 point accuracy from the top 40 scorers, and on 31st position on 3 point shooting, large number of turnovers etc etc), and to some degree, so does Harden. LeBron is just a couple levels above them.

That would be Iggy/Green, Klay/Green on Kyrie. That's how it was in Jan anyway.

Yeah, I think that it will be Green on LeBron and Klay on Kyrie most of the time. That leaves Durant on Love, right?

Will James go on Durant or will leave Durant to some of the peasants? Durant isn't Iggy on attack, if James will play defense on him, he'll probably won't be as efficient in attack.

Foul trouble is the biggest risk.

What peasant on the Cavs can guard Durant? James will be given that assignment.

It will be interesting to see if Durant and Green are enough to counter Thompson's proficiency at snatching offensive rebounds.

Who was guarding Durant in the 12 finals? Battier? I know LeBron guarded him a bit in the 4th, but it was generally someone else.

Battier would have been the key guy. Lebron was playing at the 4 a lot in Miami. Plus they had that efficient defensive scheme which depended on steals and transition D rather than 1 on 1 matchups. Durant probably got his points while the rest of the team struggled. Totally different approach to the numerous Thunder Grizzlies series, where we packed the paint and stuck Tony Allen on him.
