NBA 2015-2016

Dunk contest was probably the second best ever after the 2000 one. Unbelievable back and forth dunks between LaVine and Gordon.

Too bad the maximum is 50 points. Lavine basically did the same dunk as Gordon's second, except without the rotating mascot and got the same points.

He should've won because of that, alone. Best dunk of the night :

How did Gordon not win it after that dunk  LaVine's last one is very impressive as well though, unreal hangtime.

I don't think he will ever be the greatest player ever, simply because he's just not a defensive force. Most basketball people have acknowledged that he is already the greatest shooter of all time and now he has been the best player for the last two years.

Michael Jordan averaged more than 30 points 8 times, was a fantastic defender, an above average rebounder and passer and did it at fantastic efficiency. Jordan never had a season as good as this one by Curry because Jordan was simply not a good three point shooter. Curry isn't a bad defender but he doesn't guard opposing point guards most of the time. He's not tall enough to rebound exceptionally. He's a good passer but could never put up Chris Paul or even Russell Westbrook numbers. In terms of individual seasons, this has the potential to be the best point guard season ever but even then he is up against 87 Magic, 07/08 Paul, 85 Isiah or 62/63 Robertson.

As amazing as Curry is, the true greatest players of all time can do it all. Michael Jordan could lead the league in steals, Wilt Chamberlain could lead the league in assists as a center, Lebron James could play all five positions, Magic Johnson could play center in the NBA finals as a rookie and put up 42/15/7, Larry Bird could be a 6'9 power forward with meh athleticism and still be a great rebounder and defender, etc. Steph Curry right now is just the greatest shooter of all time. He needs to be come a great passer or great defender if he really wants to get in the conversation with the true elite.
This has changed tremendously since Steve Kerr became coach. Under Mark Jackson he was given the least threatening defensive assignment so as to keep him fresh on the offensive end. Under Kerr, he has been challenged to become a better overall basketball player and now he gets the tough defensive assignments as well. This year he's fifth in steals in the NBA and is also 3rd among PGs in rebounds. On the offensive end, as well as a scorer, he's also in the top 10 in assists even though his numbers have taken a hit this year since a lot of the Dubs offense now goes through Draymond Green. In addition, he only plays the 4th quarter when he is really needed.

He does not yet belong in the conversation of "greatest of all time" players but ESPN just ran a greatest of all time PGs and they had him listed at number 5. The thing is I'm not sure its fair to even list him as a PG any more since there is so much more to his game these days. If you watch him a lot (and I do), he really is a magician on the court. His dribbling skills are second to none. In fact I have to go back 40 years or so for a decent comparison when the Pistol played in Atlanta and New Orleans. I loved Jordan, he is still the best (that I've seen anyway) and he let everyone know it. Steph Curry on the other hand is a stone cold killer with a smile on his face. If he stays at this level for 4 or 5 more years and the Dubs keep winning Championships, Michael may have some competition for the top of the mountain.

As an aside. The Warriors went to meet Obama at the White House recently because of their Championship win last season and he being a huge Chicago sports fan cracked the following joke at their expense.

"It is rare to be in the presence of guys from the greatest team in NBA history. So we're pretty lucky today because we've got one of those players in the house — Steve Kerr, from the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls!" I thought it was funny anyway.

Reports that Bosh have blood clots again, and his season is over. If that's true I think it's the end of Bosh's career. :(

Harris for Ilyasova and Jennings is not really a great deal for Magic, is it?

Drummond
Harris
Morris
KCP
Jackson
Johnson

is a nice core to build around.

Only flaw is Drummond not making his free throws, but that is a very promising core with time on their side.

SVG was a brilliant pick up by your organization. Does he also have a role in the front office?

Highly doubt Curry would ever be in contention for the best ever, even as far as PGs go I'd anyday have someone like Jason Kidd ahead of him, a proper all rounder.

I think Curry will go down as the best shooter in history, In fact he isn't far off already.

This is a tough one. On the one hand I don't think Stephen Curry will ever be considered the best PG ever but on the other I think there's a possibility that he might at least end up in the conversation as best player. To listen to most observers, a true PG is a player who creates scoring opportunities for his teammates. Unless Steph is passing to himself, he falls short there. The closest the Dubs have to a true PG these days is Draymond Green but he also is extremely difficult to pigeonhole because of his all round game. The real problem classifying Curry is that under most circumstances a player with his physical dimensions would be destined to be PG material only because in general he's too small and too slight to regularly get to the basket and also because of his height it should be difficult for him to avoid having his shot blocked. Where Curry excels and what a lot of people miss is his extremely fast hands and superb body control. He is by far the best dribbler in the game today and this along with his amazing shooting ability means that not only is he accurate but he is able to create the space between himself and his opponent to get his shot off in the first place. Curry is a freak, but he is by far the most entertaining freak there has been in the game since Jordan.

Lillard:eek:
Can't believe this guy wasn't selected for the all-star game.

Feck me, Dion Waiters is such a donkey. Having an awful game today.

EDIT - Davis with 59 points and 20 rebounds

Waiters is just so awful. This Thunder team is so infuriating. Okay the bench sucks and that will probably be the reason they don't win a title and KD, and then eventually Westbrook, leave. But there is something missing with Durant. He's a great player but just lacks that competitive instinct that a lot of the greats have. If he had Westbrook's mentality he'd be the best in the league IMO. Since his injury he has been too careful and apprehensive. I genuinely think he could go to a Warriors or another elite team and chase a ring rather than being 'the man' himself.

Blazers are on some run, good win against Jazz who have been good recently too

Davis could propel Pelicans into playoffs if it weren't so late. From 22-33 it might be tough to come back seeing as some other teams have picked up form recently.

Pelicans are not a bad team reallyl. Holiday, Gordon and Evans are quite decent too and Davis is top notch.

Varejao joins the Warriors after being waived by the Blazers, smart move by them if you ask me. They lacked depth at C/PF and playing Green there if Bogut is out isn't a long-term solution.

Miami again plagued with injuries. :( Spoelstra is now thinking about playing McRoberts at the point...

They've still done very well recently, possibly better than before injuries. Gave Golden State a game last night.

Fifty one wins for the Warriors now. Only 22 wins for the record and 17 home games still left to play. Fun to watch and all that, but at the end of the day it needs to be 22 wins and then 16 more in the playoffs to really make history.

Yeah, they were ahead with less than a minute ago, all you can ask for against Golden State really, and then hope Curry misses one more shot. He didn't.

They're playing well, and it was one of their strengths since the start that they have good depth this season. But Bosh is still their no. 1 scorer, and losing two PGs (who were both playing well) will eventually show. They had a good stretch in the last 4 games, but the squad is getting smaller and as the games progress I think that will start to show.

Curry is like Ronaldinho now in the sense that people (like me basically) who don't watch much basketball are truly getting interested because he is just a phenomenal player. I remember at his peak, plenty of idiots were Barca fans overnight.

Thanks. In my defense I do watch an awful lot of basketball.

You should have been a fan under Mark Jackson, now that was idiotic.

I'm not saying I'm a fan tbh, just that I find it impressive that a person can be so dominant and entertaining at a sport. I'm talking about fans because I'm seeing a lot of "we", " Love GSW", "fan forever" from guys I know who weren't even into basketball a couple of years ago.
