NBA 2014-2015

These warriors are one of the ten greatest teams of all time. I'll be rooting for Cleveland but I won't mind golden state winning.

That's too early to say, man. Or do you mean they have the potential to be on the greatest of all time?

I don't really have a preference for either team. Last four years, I just rooted for whoever faced the Heat, but I wouldn't mind LeBron bringing a championship to Cleveland. Likewise, the Warriors have waited for so long and deserve it a little bit more given that they were by far and away the best and most consistent team this season.

Warriors in 6.

They are what they are. Whether they win the finals is just about proving it, but they are top 10.

Who'd be on your list of top 10? Or if you can't be bothered, top 5. Just want to add some context to it, as I haven't been following basketball for too long.

Off the top of my head:

Celtics with Russell (sixties)
Milwaukee with Robertson and Kareem (early 70's)
76ers with Irving and Malone (80's?)
Lakers with Wilt, West, Baylor (early 70's)
Lakers with Magic Johnson and Kareem (1987)
Celtics with Bird and co (1986)
Pistons all around (1989)
Bulls in the Jordan era (1992-1998)

Probably forgetting some great teams (or a lot, don't know) but those are some of the teams I've read a lot about about because they were so good. Some of the more recent teams that I actually watched come to mind like the Jazz when they had Stockton/Malone, Spurs but can't name a specific year, and the Lakers from '00-'03.

It'll be the top 10 winning records over the years. No subjectivity to it.

Kind of like saying the Chelsea team that won the league with 92 points is better then the United treble team.

Does Thompson have to sit out two weeks with that concussion? I forget.

Where did you hear the two weeks thing? He was cleared to play the rest of the game but they chose not to use him. He'll be assessed again before the finals but I doubt it'll be a 2 week layoff.

Look, this thread is about basketball. Skills quoted me and asked for my personal 10 teams in history. I'm going to respond to that with my opinion. Feel free to give your opinion as well. That's what this thread is for: talking about basketball.

If you're just interested in being a prick, feck off to the general and stop flooding the thread with your shite vendetta against me.

The Finals are gonna be fun. A lot of fun. Two fundamentally different teams. Splash brothers vs Cash brothers. Lebron the first to be in 5 finals in a row since Bill Russell. He'll dominate, for sure, but how will the rest of the Cavs cope? Will JR show up? Will Kyrie be/stay healthy? It's going to be a classic.

Warriors will win in 5. Not so much a classic.

Based on regular season, sure. But no players care about the regular season. Way to early for a statement like that. Let's wait and see if they can even win the finals first. They need a three-peat, a repeat, or at least a title to be considered in the top10.

My pick is Cavs in six. Never underestimate routine.

I'm talking about best single seasons, not best dynasties.

Just a difference of opinion. Hardly a vendetta.

I was just having a laugh really, apologies if it felt any different. I'll refrain in future.

Fwiw, I always enjoy reading your posts in here. You're clearly very knowledgeable and it's good to get a different look at things.

It appears that I took it the wrong way then because I know we agreed that we look at the game differently a few weeks ago. One of my pet peeves is answering for other people so I get a bit agitated by it. Speaking of vendettas though, I do have one against Kobe. As much as I hate him and dislike his style, he's one of the top 10-15 of all time.

Fair enough. I was doing it a bit tongue in cheek.

I'd never have known you disliked Kobe:lol:

And I'm surprised, I wouldn't think you'd have had him in your top 10/15.

I'm biased but I'm not delusional. One of the good things about stats is that they aren't colored by personal biases. So while they show just how bad these last two years have been, they also show how undeniably great he was at his peak.

Im hoping J.R chokes big time being a Knicks fan. Couldn't stand his smug face rubbing it in all Summer if they win it.

What are you basing this on? I don't watch much NBA anymore, but I've got a hard time believing this. Winning 67 games in the regular season is quite an accomplishment, but the overall NBA game is much weaker than in years past. Curious to see where you rank Showtime Lakers and Phil Jackson Lakers (ca 99-01). An in-his-prime Shaq would destroy Bogut.

In his prime Shawn would destroy anyone but Russell in his prime.

Lakers have been linked with Thibodeau a few weeks ago.

I think that's the NFL concussion rule, or some such.

That's the advised time to wait after a concussion until risking another blow by resuming play.

That's not the case in the NBA though. Curry got a concussion in game 4 (or 3, can't remember) as well but was cleared to play yesterday. Thompson will be fine for the Finals, a week rest is more than enough for him.

@Skills

For the top 10, I think you can start with the no doubt teams.

Top 5

  • 95/96 and 96/97 Chicago Bulls
  • 71/72 Lakers
  • 66/67 76ers (led by Chamberlain averaging 24/24/8 on insanely good efficiency)
  • 85/86 Celtics

Second Tier

  1. 91/92 Bulls
  2. 99/00 Lakers
  3. 14/15 Warriors
  4. 70/71 Bucks (Kareem, Oscar, 66 wins, 12-2 in the playoffs)
  5. 82/83 76ers (Dr J and Moses Malone, 12-1 in the playoffs, swept the Magic/Kareem Lakers plus Wilkes who was an All Star that year in the finals who also had Mcadoo coming off the bench)
  6. 88/89 Pistons (63 wins, swept the Celtics, swept the Lakers, beat the Bulls 4-2)

Fatally Flawed But Still Great

  1. 06/07 Mavs (lost in the first round)
  2. 00/01 Lakers (only won 55 games but went 15-1 in the playoffs)
  3. 07/08 Celtics (the league as a whole had lots of parity, only 1 team won 60 games and the 37-45 Hawks took Boston to 7 games in the first round)
  4. 12/13 Heat
  5. 86/87 Lakers (had a very easy run to the finals)
  6. 97/97 and 97/98 Jazz (lost to Chicago both times)
