NBA 2014-2015

I think Ive said in here before, there are too many stats and figures in American sports, basketball especially.

It's fine if you want to use those to make your own judgements and if you use that to enjoy the sport, I just wouldn't want football to go down that route.

Each to their own though.

It's fine for you to enjoy the game however you want. Everyone should enjoy the game however they want to. But some of us want to understand it more and more. And it is emphatically not pointless. There is a reason the Rockets are successful, it's because of charts like that and like this.
Fair play, I don't have any problems with that of course. I do still think I'd find that out for myself if I watched the Rockets regularly this season. But even then, such a chart means more to me beause it actually visualizes a pattern and tells you something about their style of play. Those stats above like TS%, possessions per 100 points, ... just don't mean that much to me, maybe because I'm not embedded in the American sports culture. I'd rather make my own judgments about the game than have the stats tell it all for me. I won't deny that it was painful to see that Kobe graphic though, but I don't fault him for that given the absolute dross he was surrounded by. But my initial comment wasn't meant to be offensive in any kind of way :)

I share those feelings, but each to their own of course, indeed.

Korver done for the season - their two remaining games, that probably is.

Which team has had the easier path to the finals?

GSW
Pelicans
Grizzlies*
Rockets

CAVS
Celtics
Bulls**
Hawks***

*- Allen & Conley two key players played with injuries and missed games
** - Gasol injured,mediocre Rose
*** - Carroll,Korver & Sefolosha all injured, Stars failed to perform.

I'd say it's about equal. Cavs beat their toughest opponents in the Bulls and will eliminate the top seed, although Atlanta sucks atm. Grizzlies were a very tough team to beat for the Warriors, and Rockets are a very good team as well but their fast paced style of play suits the Warriors brilliantly.

Curry sets a new NBA record with 59 made 3-pointers in the Playoffs. He does it in 13 games while the previous record was 58 3-pointers by Reggie Miller in 22 games. Incredible stuff.

Pelicans would beat the Celtics in a series, probably in 5 or 6. Grizz/Bulls is toss up considering they're both mediocre offensively. Bulls maybe an advantage because Rose turned it on for a few games and they can't stop him with anyone but Allen which means Jimmy feasts. Rockets would be best of the bunch if Beverley were healthy. They'd beat the Hawks fairly easily IMO.

Last one for now, this should be a bit easier to grasp. If the team is good at scoring, they are farther to the right. If they are good at defending, they are farther to the bottom.

So essentially Cleveland just aren't going to win 4 games against Golden State.

I'd say it is very unlikely. Cleveland are probably a bit better than that since they went on a tear after the Smith/MozGOD/Shumpert trade but then once you account for Love's injury you have to downgrade it again.

A conference final appearance and a playoff series win over the Clippers is progress for the Rockets especially after losing to Portland last year, they are a few pieces and a consistent Howard+Harden combo away from the NBA finals.

They are a PG away from being a great team.

What an underwhelming set of conf finals. Both going to be sweeps by the looks of things.

I'm surprised with the Cavs sweeping the Hawks. With the latter pretty much walking the East, you'd think they'd given them a tough series.

Hawks have had injury problems and the lack of star power they have has really came into place now. I think if the Cavs had started the season with Mozgov \ Shumpert and J.R Smith that they would of won the East easily.

LeBron averaged 30, 11 and 9 in this series. That's pretty incredible.

Not gonna mean shit when they get swept by the Warriors. Pretty disappointing playoffs on the whole apart from the 2 Clippers series and the Chicago/Cavs series (even then the basketball wasn't great).

I think the Warriors will win as well but don't think it'll be a sweep. Cavs are very strong at the Q.

Yeah it has been disappointing playoffs as a whole. Think the finals will be closer then you think, 4-2 Warriors is my pick.

LeBron is incredible these play-offs. game 3 of the conference final in particular. Going 0-10 in the the beginning and ending up with a triple double and an overtime victory was fantastic. He pulled the team through that one.

Yes, it's amazing what a difference he makes - Cleveland probably wouldn't even be in the Playoffs without him there. They're also the fastest team to reach the Finals (14 games) alongside the 2003 Nets and 2013 Spurs since they changed the first round series to a best-of-seven format back in 2003.

A final where I want both teams to win. It would be hard to decide on the one to root for.

If Kyrie is fit and can play the whole series than I can this one going the full distance. LeBron would be in beast mode, anyway.

I have a feeling that the difference in quality between East and West will be apparent in the Finals. Warriors in 5.

Don't watch basketball but am I right that lebron attracts alot of haters and Curry is the flavor of the year? Rooting for the big man then.
