NBA 2014-2015

Haven't seen much of GS this year. Watching them today-they are scary good. It's like watching the Globetrotters-except they're doing it against NBA opponents.
Yeah they've been unreal. Curry is pulling off plays people only try in the playground. And what's wonderful is the defensive effort, they've really bought into Steve Kerr. Klay Thompson kept James Harden to something like 4 of 15 and 0 of 4 from 3 point range the other night as well as hitting 27 points of his own.

Spurs> OKC >GS > Houston > Clippers > Dallas > Memphis > Portland

Time to revise my top 8 i feel. Phoenix looking quite good too but I'll stick with the original 8

Golden state has gotta be number 1. That team is just so deep. Rim protection might hurt them.

I'll keep OKC second and push the spurs down to 5. Houston and Clippers can stay in positions 3/4

Memphis moves ahead of dallas too.

GS > OKC > Houston > Clippers > Spurs > Memphis > Dallas > Portland
A full healthy Spurs roster is definitely better than Clippers and Houston IMO.

Would be fun to watch these guys every night-too bad I can't stay up that late. Impressive all round effort-as you say. Smothering D and selfless on O. They had someting like 4 TOs in the first half. Very impressive.

Nice to see Shaun Livingtone-always liked him with the Wiz.

I rarely stay up but ESPN shows replays of any games a few times the day after.
I thought the Curry MVP wave might die down but he just seems to be getting stronger.

I can't see any legitimate contenders beyond Curry to be honest.
Harden.

Curry is having a ridiculous year, but his team is more balanced compared to Houston. Remove Curry from the team and they might still make the playoffs. Remove Harden and the Rockets drop out of it, hell Harden carried that team when Howard was out earlier in the season.

I'd still say Curry is the most important/best player on the best team in the NBA whereas Harden is the most important/best player on a good NBA team.

Curry is way ahead of Harden for my money.
And I agree @adexkola really hard to think of any other challengers. KD has been injured too much, LeBron has been good but in a poor team so far. Anthony Davis is having a crazy season but in a poor Pelicans team.

I'll piggyback on @Bubz27's comment. GS would still be in playoff contention without Curry, but his lethality from beyond the arc, along with his penetration and adeptness on the PnR give GS a potency few teams have been able to temper this season. Harden has had a great year offensively and has picked up on the defensive end, but even ignoring the accomplishments of the teams around them, I'd place Curry above Harden.

What's going on with the Raptors, that four losses in a row for us now :(

I knew missing DeRozan would be a blow, but defense has just been trully appalling which is unacceptable considering Casie is a defensive coach.
I think there was allways going to be a fallout at some point in the season, carrying on in that vein of form would have people assuming we were genuine contenders (which we are still a while away from) it's just come about because of how important derozan is in terms of occupying defenders which is a large part of our offense, add in some questionable defensive displays and theres no wonder we were on a losing streak. Goal has to be making it to the second round of the playoffs then build from there, we dont have the frontcourt to be a proper playoff ready team right now.

That Phoenix couldn't defend shit... if I recall correctly.
True, but GS's defense hasn't been that great either (they're at 12th now for points allowed).

What reminds me of them is that both seem to rely a lot on jump shooters, and have many "120-110" games in the regular season. And now their point guard will probably win the MVP as well.

I don't know, do you think bogut will get suspended in a crucial game for taking one step?
Hopefully he'll stay on the bench this time.

I still think Phoenix just didn't have it in them to win it all though, mainly because of their defense. It's easier to handle your nerves to get a stop when you need it if you're used to playing good defense than to make a shot under pressure when you're used to making jumpers. I think that's what makes defensive teams have a better chance of winning when it matters than offensive teams.

Golden State has the best defense in the league by a wide margin. Their points per game numbers look worse because they play at such a high pace but their points per possession numbers are easily the best

Ah that's right. Didn't think they're playing at such a higher pace than other teams, although thinking about it now, how many times does Curry do the "Dribble past midcourt, dribbles two more times, shoots, swish.". Nobody else in the league does that.

We'll see in the playoffs I guess.

Our frontcourt isn't even that bad, its just that Casie makes some pretty bizarre decisons. He seems obsessed with Terrence Ross eventhough he's been consistently shit forever now, seems like he's getting picked on default because of his freak 51 point game. He's not using Jonas properly and even yesterday he benched him for the last quarter after he was dicking the bucks for the first three quarters.

I honestly think the Raptors have an excellent base to challenge for the conference championship, the coaching has been questionable though. But heck, if Casie trades Terrence Ross I'd immediately change my mind.

Anybody here think that GS have D'Antoni's Phoenix written all over them?

That Phoenix couldn't defend shit... if I recall correctly.

As a Phoenix Suns fan who watched almost every game of the D'Antoni era I will say the main difference is that GS is deeper and more athletic. The last point explains why they are better defensively. Remember that Steve Kerr was the GM of the Suns at the end of the D'Antoni era and is no doubt influenced by that experience. The fact that the Suns of a few years ago achieved what they did on offense with a 6 man rotation at times was a miracle but Kerr knew even at that time that we needed something a little different. This is ultimately why he quit the Suns as there was too much push back.

With all of that said, the Suns would have won a championship if some luck had gone our way especially with regards to injuries and the Amare, Diaw suspension in the Spurs series.

Zach Lowe actually had an interesting article on Grantland a couple months ago about the player movement and high speed of the Mavs offense, and he made a point about how they play like the peak Nash Suns team. Although I do see the Warriors comparison as well.

Everyone is falling off in the East and the Hawks look really fecking good right now. Rose's comments were a bit shit tbh and even though he's my favourite player on my favourite team it made me mad.

Seems like opposite things are happening in West and East - In the West it seems the stronger teams are finally finding their mojo whereas the strong Eastern teams are tanking. Chicago's W/L record in the last 8 games has been just :wenger:

Rose hasn't exactly set the court alight this season, and his comments are a bit cheeky considering he's had to rely on Pau and Jimmy feckin Butler to carry his ass as he shoots indiscriminately all over the court.

Also, why are you rooting for Bulls when you have an exciting, fresh franchise reppin your nation...

why would i stop supporting the team i've always liked because my local team is doing good for once.

At least Harden will deservedly start ahead of him.

West starters: Curry, Kobe/Harden, Blake, Davis, Gasol

East starters: Lowry, Wall, Melo, James, Gasol

Gasol vs Gasol! Should be fun to see.

When are the Dunk Contest participants announced?

Surprised to see Lowry overtake Wade in the end because he was quite a bit behind last time I checked, but he deserves it. I'm also surprised Rose, Durant and Westbrook didn't get more votes.

Delighted for my boy Lowry getting an Eastern starting spot :D

Melo and Kobe is just lol, especially how the latter can't even play due to injury , Harden missing out as a starter is pretty stupid too considering he's MVP material, but he'll probably start now anyway.

Jeremy Lin will probably still get a reserve spot because of the Asian vote.

I don't understand why the fans have a voice in who the all star starting teams are. Butler and Korver have stronger cases for being in the East team than Melo. Ditto for Kobe, with Harden/Thompson being the shafted players.

Chuffed for Gasol. The first time a Memphis player is starting in the all-star game. Shoutout to Pau as well.

Aldridge is out with the thumb injury, so maybe Z-Bo will sneak into the reserve lineup. Would have loved for Conley to get in somehow, but alas, the West is just too stacked.

Just saw a thing on ESPN talking about how there are no more "bad guys" in the NBA and everyone is likeable. I dunno about that, I still highly dislike Blake Griffin, Dwight Howard, and Chris Paul, but maybe that's just me. Plus every non-OKC fan seems to hate Steven Adams.

Kobe probably out for the season.. Would be a shame if his career ends this way.

No. Reserves are selected by the coaches, Lin wouldn't get in.
