It still is a no-brainer decision. Bynum is an idiot - got injured playing bowling ffs.

Yep, Bynum for all his potential is held back by his own stupidity.

Howard at times does not look interested but I think that is a combination of him still being affected by his back and frustration from a similar lack of effort from his teammates.

The players aren't playing well, but with this much talent on the roster it falls on the coach to make it work and change attitudes. Instead, the coach just seems like a stubborn twat who will refuse to change his ways. D'Antoni is more at fault for this mess than the players imo.

they're all at fault.
even Kobe, as great as he is.
he should get it through his head by now that him scoring over 35 points every night usualy leads to his teammates not being "in the flow" and losing a game.
otherwise I can't criticise him, his scoring (efficiency) is great, it's not like he's shooting a carreer low or anything, it's just logic.

At the time it was a no brainer decision. An inconsistent Bynum for a 3 time DPOTY made sense. Hindsight is 20/20.

Both Howard and Bynum have been dissapointing since the trade (in different ways).
Pretty much every team lost in that trade if you look at it from the current standpoint.

The sixers built the team so it'll be suited to play around Bynum, but oops, he injured himself bowling.

The lakers built a "super squad" on paper, but that super squad is getting old, their bench is shit, and the players generaly don't fit D'Antoni's system (still don't understand how he got the job in the 1st place). Granted Howard hasn't been 100% because of his back, but still.

The magic, although surprisingly not as shit as some would have predicted, are still shit.

Denver got out alright

The winner is the sport of basketball. Whenever a down on their luck franchise such as the Bobcats pulls together as a team and goes to overtime it is a big deal. Especially against the Goliaths of the league like Detroit. As a member of the southeast division the Bobcats don't ever play good teams and so it is hard for them to improve themselves. I'd bet they've had this game marked on their calendar for a while now. Word on the street is that Mike Dunlap has been drawing up some trick plays just for this game in hopes of surprising the superior team and pulling off an upset for the ages.

And an upset for the ages it was, as the tiny Bobcats (finally) beat the mighty Pistons in Detroit 108-101..

I watched the fourth quarter.. It looked heart breaking for the players and the fans (and for D'Antoni as well). The players REALLY wanted to win. If you watch the ending you'd think they missed the play-offs. Tough period for the Lakers, but I'm sure they'll find a way out of it soon enough.. Just a little bit more communication in defense and they should be fine (despite all the obvious flaws everybody can spot)..

On a side note, Lakers score 22 points in the fourth quarter, Kobe scores 18 of them?! Almost all of them on difficult shots?! I think D'Antoni should give like half of his salary to Kobe.

Followed the game on twitter and consensus was the offense was good, the players had intensity but D let them down, again.

Houston, OKC & Spurs are on the upcoming schedule for the Lakers. Will probably lose all 3 games as well.

The Lakers were shit, the stats say otherwise but what kind of team goes 8 minutes without making a single field goal? They went from being 4 up to 10 down during that run, they deserved to lose for that alone. The only players that showed intensity was Kobe, MWP and Hill. Everybody else made no efforts on defense at all. Lack of team work with most of the second team looking like they're only interested in getting their stats up to get more game time and the first team playing like it's the first time they're meeting each other.

Howard was disappointing again, he's either uninterested or unfit, or most likely both. He can't take part in fast break offense and he's always bypassed whenever Nuggets make theirs. Made 2 really bad plays in the 4th quarter which killed the Lakers chances. The first play he caught a bad pass under his own basket and proceeded to pass it straight to McGee who made the easy basket and that increased Nugget's lead to 6 and the second was his usual play of trying to smack the ball out of play when he blocks a shot. Galinari read him perfectly and got the loose ball to shoot an open 3 to kill any chances the Lakers had to tie the game.

If there's any consolation, it's that the Lakers still had so many chances to win the game despite a non-existing defense and an offense that takes 1/4 of the game off. If they fix it soon enough, they should still be able to make the playoffs, but .....

Side note: That play MWP did to hound Galinari for the ball and to force a 24 seconds violation was just  If the rest of the team showed half his effort, they'll do just fine.

TLDR: Lakers need to stop playing like a bunch of individuals and start playing like a team.

Eboue, do you ever wonder, "What if my club had drafted Carmelo?"

Granted it's probably easier to take considering the Pistons won a title that very same season, and lost to the mighty Spurs the following year, but to think they could have had that same core plus a great scorer and future to build on.

I know how it can feel. It still stings that my local Mavs not only failed to draft Drexler (1983) but also Stockton (1984) and Malone (1985), instead taking Ellis (1983), Stansbury (1984) and Schrempf (1985) all ahead of those guys. In fairness to the Drexler/Ellis pick, they Mavs were fresh off drafting Blackmon and he was solid, Ellis was supposed to add a tall shooter yet he never showed any ability until he was dealt to Seattle in 1986. In Stockton they had drafted Harper the previous season and also had the reliable white man Brad Davis, so I suppose forgiveness is alright here. But it ends with Malone. Malone was so desiring of being drafted by Dallas the had bought land in the area in the anticipation of building a home nearby his future club. He supposedly stated shock the Mavs didn't draft him after pre-draft talks they would. To imagine the late-80s Mavs could have theoretically had this starting five makes me tear up. A definite dynasty.

PG- Stockton
SG- Drexler
SF- Aguirre
PF- Malone
C- Donaldson
Bench- PG Harper, SG Blackmon, PF/C Tarpley and a few others

To be honest, I wonder if we had drafted Wade even more. But the NBA probably would have framed him for murder after he led us to our 7th straight title in order to give other teams a chance. I wonder what Wade would have preferred, winning 7 titles in Detroit and getting framed for murder or spending all these years in Miami.

Ah yeah, forgot Wade went in that draft but the Pistons did have Rip at his position and he was quite good then. They needed quality in Carmelo's position and he did go right after that HOF lock Millicic so hence the oft-comparison I suppose. Bosh went between Carmelo and Wade according to wiki. Also worth noting the Mavs got a steal in Josh Howard at 29 - damn shame he tore up his knee later on.

They avoided drafting Wade early because of his terrible jump shot (at the time) and because he's prone to injuries..

How about the Spurs getting 2 of their big 3 as the 28th and 57th draft picks..

LA is currently 3 games out of 8th place in the west, 11th out of 15, 15-18 record.

Detroit is currently 4.5 games out of 8th place in the east, 11th out of 15, 13-23 record.

I bet you could make a lot of money betting on Detroit finishing with a better record...

...if you believe that's likely.

Do it Eboue! Do it!

I believe that the Luxor is Vegas will accept vital organs as collateral. You know, if it was a cinch.

But how will I know that Stern won't screw me over again? We have a history and it's not very friendly. He's had it out for me ever since I accidentally ran over his dog. By dog I mean son. And by accidentally I mean repeatedly.

In response to rumours they came close to blows, Bryant released this picture:

Judging by D'Antoni's relaxed mood, this was probably taking during the 30 minutes he spends coaching defense.

News these days that even Stern is feeling sorry for Pistons.. He even said that he forgot about those dog/son accidents already.

Come on Eboue! Do it! You can live with one kidney believe me!

 At least they seem to be having fun off the court at the moment..

Nice pic, and nice way to answer the press..

Very heated game between the Celtics and the Knicks. Carmelo and Garnett are close to getting ejected..

86-86 with 6:30 to go..

Twitter saying Melo went after KG after the game and had to be restrained

KG may be a great player but he is the Suarez of the NBA - a detestable cnut.

Eboue - In all seriousness Drummond looks like a real legit player. Lawrence Frank's meritocracy has led to his minutes being increased throughout the season and his energy and raw athleticism is through the roof. I saw him play quite a few times at Uconn and despite watching him dominate at times, he looked like another tall lanky shot blocker to me. He's got some serious motor on him, and I could definitely see him moving to the 5 and having Monroe slide over to the 4. What are your thoughts on Drummond/Monroe combo?

Rumour has it KG said Melo's wife tasted like Honey Nut Cheerio's.
