can they afford him ?

The owner is a Russian billionaire crook like that guy who owns Chelsea and the one that wants to buy Arsenal. He's already commited to something like $500m in contracts over the next five years. And he laughs at the luxury tax.

$10-15m per year for Phil is peanuts to this guy.

Contact is allowed in basketball, but the league has gotten much softer over the years in terms of blowing the whistle for ticky tack fouls. I think my biggest pet peeve is that hand checking is no longer allowed along the perimeter - there is absolutely no reason to blow the whistle for incidental contact 25 feet away from the basket. Nothing good or bad is going to happen from it, so just let the players play on.

I think Dwight is a huge crybaby and the more I watch the more it looks like he's still laboring from his back surgery. He doesn't seem to be moving as well as he used to and I remember a distinct play on Christmas where he caught the ball under the basket and tried a ridiculous reverse layup attempt whereas in the old days he would have just elevated and flushed the ball down with authority.

Javale is a baffling player, oodles of athletic talent but no basketball IQ whatsoever. I think people need to cut him some slack because he was in such a terrible environment (Washington Wizards) for his career before Denver. He's still very young and once he learns to play the game he'll protect the rim as well as Ibaka.

I think the bright side to the injuries is that neither Felton nor Melo are one of the "old guys." If this was a playoff game Carmelo would have 100% played, and the Knicks have adequate backup for Felton. I thought JR was incredible last night and it cannot be stated enough that Mike Woodson has done an incredible job.

As long as we have Melo, we have a chance against anyone.

I agree with regards to McGee. He still has time on his side, and with his physical attributes he has massive potential to become one of the dominant Centres in the league. Coach Karl seems to prefer Koufos though.

Good win for us today, though the Mavs are looking like a shadow of their former selves ATM.

As for JR's clutch shot the other night: wow.

No mention of the Pistons dominating the Heat I see. I shouldn't be surprised though, the anti-Pistons agenda of the Caf is quite sad. Will Bynum showed Ray Allen how basketball is meant to be played in a dominant performance. I think I saw Dwayane Wade taking notes on the bench with about nine minutes left in the third quarter. Can't really blame him though, game recognize game. Tayshaun Prince posterized Chris Bosh in a dunk that will surely have Bosh waking up in a cold sweat during the night worried that Tayshaun is going to embarrass him again. The Pistons had 6 players in double digits to the Heat's two, showing the "stars" in Miami what a real team is. Charlie Villaneuva even went 4-5 from three. All in all, the game wasn't nearly as close as the score indicated. The Pistons ran Miami up and down the floor as better teams are wont to do and their willingness to let the Heat whittle the lead down to ten showed superior class and sportsmanship that has earned them the respect of the league. The Pistons have won 3 of their last 4 and seem to get better every night. A conservative estimate would be that they continue to perform at that level which puts them on pace for a record of 48-34 and in contention for the division title. Watch out haters!

So are Detroit going to make the play-offs then this year??

Lakers blows out Blazers.

Everyone, even Earl Clark plays, but Antawn Jamison still left on the bench.

I smell a trade

I don't understand that.

He's a good shooter, he's had a couple of big games and he was brought in to be a spark off the bench. Granted, he's struggled this season but so have all the others bar Kobe.

The Clippers are unstoppable. Celebrities are now turning up to their games without feeling embarrassed.

That's a silly question. Of course they will make the playoffs, I'm just hoping they will get home court advantage in the first round.

 So you think they can finish fourth or better in the East then?!!

Good win by the way.. Congratulations.

I don't think anyone likes the Pistons very much.. they're the Stoke City of NBA

Not entirely fair. The Bad Boys team was certainly dirty, no doubt about that. Once when the Pistons were beating the Bulls by double digits and there was only 30 or so seconds left in the game, Pippin elbowed a Piston and was ejected. Shortly after Michael Jordan was at the foul line and Laimbeer leaned over and said "motherfecker, you're going to pay for that". There's no defending the dirty play that the Pistons used but they could play also. That team won two titles and was robbed of a third by the Phantom Foul on Kareem.

The 2000's team wasn't dirty in any way. They were pretty incredible, showing you can win a title without a superstar. The 2004 team played incredible defense, holding opponents under 70 points in 5 straight games. It only ended when the Nets got 71 by fouling to get the ball back and scoring with 1 second left. Tayshaun Prince's block on Reggie Miller is one of the greatest plays of all time. People forget that the Pistons were one quarter away from winning back to back titles too.

Agreed on the praise for Pistons mid 00's, fantastic team to watch for a defensive purest. Certainly a more "classy" winning team than their bad boy team, but even they showed you could do it without flash, intensity and defensive mentality. Loved them putting Lakers in their place, and the 2005 finals was a good series, gotta love a defensive dominated nba finals with no flamboyant superstar in it at all.

This is the beginning of a good rivalry. Maybe in a few years the Heat will learn to play as a team and be able to knock the Pistons off their perch.

gooDevil hates the Heat. I'm the only Heat fan here.. Detroit doesn't have a perch to be knocked off it.

Should be 4 v. 1 anyway.

1- The second picture isn't showing.

2- Sh*t roof.

3- Those banners look like towels.

4- 3 is not a "perch", there are teams who have more than 3 of those 3..

5- gooDevil (allegedly a Laker fan) is not the right person to quote when you're talking about a 3-titles perch.

6- If Bynum keeps playing like he did against Miami and Atlanta, then you might have a chance of making the playoffs this year..

7- I still don't think you're going to make the play-offs this year. Sorry.

Well, I hate LeBron, I actually quite like Wade and the Heat in general. I loved their teams back in the Alonzo Mourning, Timmy Hardaway days.

I used to root for the Pistons against the Celtics, and I backed the Pistons over the Spurs in their recent finals clashes.

Who I really hate are the Knicks, but they've been so bad for so long most of that hate has subsided. And I was following the Knicks during the Jeremy Lin saga, so now I don't know what to do. I don't even hate the Celtics as a Lakers fan.

Eboue's infallible predictions:

Miami: 62-20 but still tacky as hell
Detroit: 51-31
Will Bynum: All NBA First Team
Tayshaun Prince: Still ugly
Danny1982: 4 sleepless nights worrying about Charlie Villaneuva

Ok.. In 4 months I'm quoting this.. And then have 4 sleepless night because I can't stop laughing..

I really hope Detroit make the playoffs now.. It will be fun here..

By the way, are there any Boston fans here?

Looks perfectly fine. They have no intentions on dominating the regular season, simply because they don't have too, they could be fourth or even eighth seed and still make it to the finals vaguely easily barring a bad run of form hitting them(but that could happen if their first seed).

NBA(and the NHL) really need to adopt a new system to make an 82 game regular season remotely interesting. It's like Stoke getting in the Champions League for being 10th sometimes.

Wouldn't be very hard to give out a trophy for the best regular season team.

Though if they haven't done it by now, they must have some (stupid) reason.

Well they do.....but it's still all pointless, because if you lose in the first round....who cares?

Anyone with an Android phone (may work on iOS but not sure) download Big Win Basketball. Awesome game. It's like a mix of FIFA Ultimate Team and Football Manager. You get 'cards' for players like in ultimate team, then your team plays another team in like a football manager mode. You watch them play and see what the final score is. You don't actually manage them, you just watch them play. You win coins for winning games, and you use those coins to buy more packs of cards with better players in. It's good for some mindless fun.

The Bury Lakers are currently W9 L17... just lost a game 42 - 43. 10 year project and all that.

 I watched the game, it was great seeing Wade and Lebron stew on the bench. They'll want to prove a point in your next meetup.

Pistons are upcoming yes, but even with Rose out I think the Bulls are a better outfit.

Can't believe the Pistons beat my Bucks last night. We gave them about 17 points early and then drew level late, but Dumars called in a favor from the refs and they gave Prince some free throws.

It was the only way to keep the fans from rioting, such is their insolence.

It is better to be feared than loved. Of course, in the Pistons' case, we are both.
