Nba 2011-2012

You didn't watch the second quarter. You might change your mind again..

Too many things went wrong for Boston this game. Terrible free throw shooting (Boston missed 10 out of 21 free throws!). Invisible Allen (6 points, 7 shots, and 3 for 7 free throw shooting?!). Bad night for Pierce (5 for 18)... Just say Pierce goes 8 for 18, Allen hits 1 more three pointer, and Boston sink 5 of those 10 missed free throws, and the game could be a complete different story.

It's only 1-0 now, as Miami wins at home, where they are supposed to win.

Edit: By the way, Battier and Turiaf are impressing me more and more.

I'll admit there is a chance that Boston could win, but a very small one, less chance than Indiana had, imo. Only a Miami fan would be so concerned about Boston, I think most neutrals are going to be predicting a short series after this game. It's not Boston's offense that makes me say that, it's the way their defense doesn't match up with Miami.

But even the Knicks managed to win a game and they had to contend with Bosh, so Boston winning one won't convince me of anything, especially if it's in Boston.

I certainly agree with you're impression of Battier and Turiaf, Battier has always been one of the best defenders in the league and a very professional guy, and Turiaf is a fantastic high energy rebounded from the bench, the Lakers should have help onto him.

If Bron-Bron keeps playing like this then perhaps he'll lose his 'LeChoke' tag, but still a long way to go in the series.

Pau apparently wants to go to the Bulls. Would be a great move for him and Chicago but unless a 3rd team gets involved, I don't see the Lakers making that move happen.

I don't think he will ever lose his choke tag. Its going to be super hard. This year, he might do well in the finals, which I think they will get to. But he needs to perform much better in clutch situations like end of quarter and end of game shots. He just moves aside and lets Wade take the shot if he is on the floor. He need to get the ball and tell everyone to get the feck out of the way and make that last shot and not worry about the outcome. Thats the only way you can become a clutch/game closer.

I hope Spurs win tonight. Its going to be hard to win in OKC if the Thunder win tonight because they will have all the momentum. Not impossible for it might be very, very hard.

I think both series will end in 5. Boston look old against Miami. OKC look to be missing that cutting edge against the veteran Spurs that haven't lost in like two months.

BTW, were those officials sensitive or what in the first half? Three ridiculous technical foul calls. And of course if a coach/player says anything about it they get fined instead of the league admitting mistakes.

Also, can't imagine the Bulls have anything the Lakers would want for Gasol. Would definitely have to get a third team involved but someone would have to take Boozer's contract - that's a contract no club should/would want to inherit.

I think you are underestimating both the Celtics and the Thunder. The Spurs barely beat the Thunder and they were at home. It could easily go 7 games. The Heat will win but I think Celtics will take at least 2 games.

Pretty strong first half by the Spurs, though the Thunder did well to claw it back from a 10 to 6 point lead. The Thunder don't let their heads drop, and Durant is some jump shooter. Westbrook has been invisible so far.

Absolutely amazing 2nd quarter by the Spurs, I'm surprised the the Thunder are still within 11, any other team would be down 20.

And what a dunk by Duncan, looked like a 19 year old on that one. 13 assists for the Spurs already, shooting 58% and 4-9 from three.

Just turned on the TV. Happy the Spurs are up but against the Thunder a 11 point lead will disappear in a couple of minutes if they starting shooting and get hot.

Unbelievable run by the Spurs in the 3rd quarter! Brilliant shooting! Such a nice team play. They are playing like Barcelona except in basketball terms. What a 3rd quarter. Up 20!

26 points and 7 assists for Parker with a few minutes left in the 3rd. This quarter may be the best yet! I'll have to get my hands on a copy of this game, one to watch again.

The Thunder though, they continue to refuse to drop their heads or give in, remind me a bit of that Manchester United spirit! Have to admire their attitude.

You had a quarter and a half when they were down by 20. I don't think anyone gives up with that much time left.

18 and 10 for my boy Kawhi Leonard, 3-6 from three and 7-12 overall, with a steal and two blocks. 55% shooting total for the Spurs and 42% from three. 27 assists is fantastic, and 120 points against a pretty good defensive team is very impressive.

Fantastic game, and even a bit of a comeback at the end to make it interesting.

Brooks...he's like Del Negro, but blessed with a better team. Young Thunder team receiving no help whatsoever from their coaching team. Pop and the Spurs are fantastic, their passing game is not something you can easily stop, but you gotta try some different looks.

As it is, they are toying with them atm....taking turns destroying them. Durant with 30+, Harden with 30 and Westbrook one bucket away from 30...but this wasn't even close.

Brooks is a way better coach than Del Negro. The big three are doing their job offensively but they don't have good ball movement and as a result are low in assists which means their teammates don't score that often.

Charles Barkley said something interesting after the game. The Thunder need to go small to increase their chances. They need to have three guards. They did that late in the 3rd and early in the 4th and thats what brought them back.

Don't care about their offensive numbers...I'm more concerned with their defensive work, watching these two games, at any point have you felt confident that the Thunder could get a stop if they really needed one?

I get that vibe from the Spurs, that, if it came down to it, they could devise a scheme, and put together a defensive stop, but the Thunder...no chance.

Another problem with the Thunder is that they don't have a post game. If you shut down Durant, their whole team will start to suffer. And the advantage Spurs have is that their squad depth is absolutely sensational and they have shooters all over the court from Ginobilli to Neal to Green to Leonard to Jackson to Bonner.

And like you said their passing game is just too good. Their pick and roll this post season is the best I have ever seen. They set such good picks that the guy they are giving the screen just runs into open floor and 8/10 times they are going to score.

These Spurs may just save basketball if they can win the title. Teams will look at the super-athletic blueprint, see how well the Thunder have done with it and yet can't beat a team with no All-Stars who play fantastic fundamental passing basketball.

Instead of everything being about speed and athleticism, everyone slashing to the basket and jumping into their defender to draw a foul, we might see some basketball again!

Why do you not consider the big three all stars?

Spurs are just too good this year, 20 straight wins! Pop and the 3 veterans deserve huge credit for how well they've played this year, many thought they'd struggle with the compressed season but they've just been on another level to the rest.

Needless to say, game 3 is now huge for the Thunder.

Sorry, you're right, Parker make the All-Star game.

None of the Spurs players are currently one of the huge stars that teams fight to get their hands on, it does against the conventional wisdom that says you build around an elite player to win. The Knicks traded a group with good chemistry to get their hands on one superstar, Anthony, and have won less games for their effort than before.

After such a great series Parker will probably come to be viewed as a top PG again, but most people wouldn't have put him in their top 5 PGs [Rose, Paul, Rondo, Williams, Westbrook] at the start of the season, maybe even behind Ellis and Nash as well last summer.

At 34 people didn't expect to see the best of Ginobili again, the Spurs were shopping him before he signed his last contract and for a long time the word was the Spurs wouldn't sign him, he played his was back into a contract that season.

36 year old Tim Duncan is also turning back the clock but he hasn't been in the low post grinding out points like he used to as the first offensive option. Their success is much more about the team passing and timing than Duncan being individually brilliant.

After losing in the first round to the Grizzlies last season people were lining up to predict an early demise during these playoffs as well.

You have to applaud the Spurs for what they have achieved so far (this season, what they achieved in the last decade is another story!).

I think their form this season is down to Parker and Pop. Parker has been immense this season, and it's the first season really (I think) where his name was dragged into the MVP discussion during the season.

Needless to say, Oklahoma HAVE to win the next two games or they are as good as out.

For me personally, even though I'd still feel bad if Miami loses it in the end (if they make it to the finals), if there is one team that I'd like them to lose it to it would be the Spurs.. They will be worthy champions and deserve every ounce of it.

The Spurs also do the championship banner thing the right way - it does not proclaim WORLD CHAMPIONS... it simply states NBA CHAMPIONS.

I feel the Thunder need to permanently move Westbrook to SG and bring in a true PG. He just runs around and shoots whenever he feels like it. Perhaps they could entice Nash for a season or two, granted it wouldn't help them defensively. Or maybe come up with some kind of deal that might include Perkins and/or Harden.

Legler (I think) was saying the Thunder lack a bigger player on the perimeter and how they would love to have Green back now (and Boston would love to have Perkins at the moment).

If you guys had to pick an all time best starting five, who would your choices be?

PG - Magic Johnson
SG - Michael Jordan
SF - Larry Bird
PF - Hakeem Olajawon
C - Kareem Abdul Jabaar

1st team:

PG: Magic
SG: Jordan
SF: Bird
PF: Karl Malone
C: Hakeem

2nd team:

PG: Thomas
SG: Bryant
SF: Pippen
PF: Barkley
C: Kareem

3rd team:

PG: Stockton
SG: Gervin
SF: James
PF: Duncan
C: Shaq

I am surprised you picked Malone over centers like Kareem or The Admiral and also moved Hakeem out of his original position.

I'd go Magic-Jordan-Bird-Russell-Chamberlain.

But then I would have have a tournament for eras.

50s: Cousy-Sharman-Petit-Schayes-Mikan
don't know much about this era and the last three are big men though only Mikan was a "true" center

60s: Robertson-West-Baylor-Russell-Chamberlain
all factors considered, this side could dominate

70s: Maravich-Erving-Barry-Reed-Abdul-Jabbar
would want Maravich's ability on the ball to allow Erving and Barry to score

80s: Magic-Gervin-Worthy-Bird-M Malone
alternatively, could put Thomas at PG and move Magic to SF

90s: Stockton-Jordan-Pippen-Malone-Robinson
this side would be incredible defensively

00s: Kidd-Bryant-Pierce-Garnett-O'Neal
do you move Bryant to SF and bring in Wade, or can Wade play SF in this setup?

10s: Rondo-Rose-James-Durant-Howard
would push Rose to SG to allow Rondo to control tempo

Foreign V: Parker-Petrovic-Nowitzki-Duncan-Olajuwon
amazing team with a seven footer on the wings

I'm only going for players I've seen play:

PG - Nash
SG - Kobe
SF - LeBron
PF - Duncan
C - Shaq
