Nasri To City - Done Deal!

Stop spelling Champions League wrong. I bet you £20 we finish more than 5 points ahead of them.

Boo fecking hoo. Its not misspelling, btw. It was an incorrect use of an apostrophe, and all it shows is that you're a dick and don't have a valid argument.

I bet you thought we would have signed Arjen Robben ahead of Chelsea because we were more established too.

We may well finish 5 points ahead of City, we finished how many points ahead of our challengers this year? Doesn't mean they weren't competing

I'm not to keen on Nasri either. He had a great first half of last season. Other than that he has been good without being spectacular. But then I havent seen enough Arsenal matches and he is still very young and clearly talented

I wouldnt mind if we signed him. Wouldnt care if we didnt.
All signings are exciting, he wouldnt be any different

Would you be excited if we signed Charlie Adam?

I can't believe you read the comments in this thread and inferred that people think it's an impossible transfer.

Eh? I said 'some', with that being the key word.. People have said the very same words or words to that effect, so you know, naturally I 'infer' that those particular posters believe what they've said. Since it did come straight from the horses mouth.

Okay so City's first choice front six is basically

Tevez
Ballotelli Toure Silva
Barry DeJong

With Dzeko, Milner and A Johnson for rotation purposes (I'm assuming they're getting shot of most of Jo, SWP, Adebayor, Santa Cruz, Michael Johson, Caicedo and Weiss) (wow that's a career graveyard)

So if he hypothetically does go to City where does he fit in? Unless Mancini drops Barry and moves Toure back (so that Nasri can play in the centre of the three) I'm not seeing him starting regularly. And even that I can't see happening because Toure in that position was one of their best players last season.

Am I the only one who doesn't want us to sign Nasri?

We haven't signed anyone in two days. I want more

It's beginning to look quite likely that we'll sign him

good player

City are interested in him and might or might not have bid. How do you come to the above conclusion with this info

Because he'd be a fecking idiot to join that City team where he wouldn't get much games.

Unless he wants the money ... which is likely.

The only way I can see us getting him is by the Sanchez Syndrome. I.e. City will be the highest bidder, but Nasri might have his heart set on us instead, in which case Arsenal will be forced to accept our (probably) lower bid.

Nasri would get plenty of games at shitty, if crap like James Milner/Gareth Barry and Adam Johnson can get games Nasris a shoe in, Citys first team really isnt all that, this is a side that has Joleon Lescott and Gareth Barry as first team regulars for heavens sake.

If it comes down to a choice between us and City i doubt hed choose the small club, it depends on whether hes money driven i suppose, tbh i really dont care i said months ago i dont see the point of us signing Nasri and i stick by that hes not a centre midfield in my opinion.

He grew up supporting Arsenal didnt he?
I think I remember seeing a picture, just after he had signed for Arsenal, of a young Nasri in his room and there was some Arsenal flag/scarf/shirt there as well.

If he is trying to force a move away, it isnt to a club he has always wanted to play for. Money will be a huge factor.

And he will get games at city. Him, Yaya and De Jong in a 3 man midfield.
Him out wide for half the season as Balotelli is always suspended.
Getting games shouldnt be a problem

Nasri was actually a City fan by birth. Mike Summerbee was an early hero of his, and he actually sent him a congratulatory text after his stunning punditry performance at the Manchester Derby this year.

Anyone choosing clubs like Chelsea and City ahead of clubs like United, Arsenal and Liverpool, are only after money.

Why don't you want a player of Nasri's quality? In my opinion he would massively improve our midfield.

I don't rate him half as highly as most. I think he is overrated due to having a great couple of months playing off the striker while Fabregas was injured. He wouldn't be playing that position for us and he was good, but nothing special, for the rest of the season. He would improve our midfield but signing anyone would.

You seem to be trying to argue that city are an equally valid footballing choice, I'm arguing they're not. It's quite clear that if a desire to compete for the big trophies is a player's ambition, he will join United over city. We had our worst points finish in years last year and still finished comfortably ahead of city. Of course, they're more appealing than when they weren't in the Champions League, but this matters little when you're putting them up next to Manchester United. city to Arsenal is a sideways step.

I'm not particularly enamoured with it, just not sure if he is the right one, but if it happens and SAF believes he's the right choice, then who am I to judge

I'm not convinced that it isn't just a load of crap, we'll probably sign someone noone expects at all

well, as someone else pointed out, City are a bunch of c-words. He'd not even get in the team there either. It'd be worse than Hleb to Barcelona

I think we'll sign him because the player himself suggested it in the press, and Arsenal haven't been able to tie him up to a contract - if he doesn't sign, they have no choice but to sell him.

Arsenal probably don't want to sell him to us, but they definitely don't want to sell him to City - them two will be battling all year behind us. I don't see the big Spanish or Milanese clubs bidding for him really

We're the only club able to agree personal terms with him that are interested, and that limits the market substantially. Plus, we're Man United, we do what we want

He'd be one of the first names on their team-sheet, only behind Tevez/Hart/Kompany and maybe De Jong

I think it's very likely we're interested, or at least testing the waters.

I think it's very unlikely that Arsenal will sell him to us, at any price.

If they can't negotiate a new contract (and I think they probably will, if only to avoid pissing off their already pissed off fans still further) this will end up like the Heinze saga, where they shop around to find an alternative destination acceptable to the player and the club.

Regarding Heinze

Very VERY different situation.

Heinze had more time running on his contract and would've had to wait a LONG time before being in Nasri's position. I can guarantee you that if Heinze had a year left and we got a 20m offer from the scousers, he'd have been sold to them.

Heinze problem was that we held more cards and he'd alienated himself to United fans by coming out publicly and saying that he wanted to join our closest rivals, even taking us to court. Once the courts told him to feck off he had one option, MOVE ABROAD.

Heinze situation was similar to Robinho's!

Isn't money one of the big reasons he actually wants to leave? So there is always a chance he will pick City over us if it comes down to the both of us.

They won the FA cup, are already qualified for the Champions League (look I got it right ;) ) have a settled team and squad with a few young players that can improve next year. To argue that they aren't a legitimate threat to United next season is foolishness. As a footballer he has two choices are both are valid, I hope he chooses United but if he chooses City at this point in time he has legitimate football reasons, on top of the financial reasons.

Arsenal are transitioning in a few positions and haven't won a trophy in years. Man City have a settled first team, won the FA cup beating United on the way, finished 3rd and are looking to build on that.

They are a threat next season, don't be blinded by bias and arrogance.
