Nani will reignite our charge to the title

He is:

a) Our best dead-ball specialist (corners and free-kicks)

b) Our best long-range shot specialist.

c) Our most tricky winger.

All the above attributes help teams to win tight games. Hopefully he apologises to SAF, buries the hatchet with SAF and gets a run of a few games. We will all be suprised how well he can do.

Come on Nani.

take a bow son. either you're a United insider or you were very fortunate with timing of this thread :)

I remember in the first 10 minutes when Nani was atleast 2 yards behind Clichy and trying to latch on to a through ball, Nani ran like a 100 metre sprinter and out paced Clichy to get control of the ball. Never knew he was that quick.

That was a big call, and I am pleased as anyone to see you turn out right.

Onwards and upwards for Nani from now hopefully!

Hopefully, he can put as good a performances on the left hand side and think that fergie is just abiding his time to gain Nani's confidence.

Easily our second best player in the past week, perhaps even on par with Rooney although he doesn't have the goals to show it. This lad, it seems, has turned his career around. Just at a time when everyone was lambasting him and wanting him to be sold, he puts his mind in the right place and works out his problems. Now it looks like his is fulfilling his potential, and my goodness how emphatically he is doing it.

He's working well with Rooney, that's critically important. Ronaldo fed off Rooney's presence and Nani is starting to do the same, it's absolutely immense to watch - that said, Nani is in possession of incredible talent. The players seem genuinely happy that Nani has got it together because they obviously knew he had this in his locker and so they must have been as frustrated as us fans.

Now, he's pushing an excellent Valencia out of the squad, lets imagine the speed and power of Nani, Rooney and Valencia on the counter.

Immense.

Take a bow Nani.

I'm not sure he is all that quick though. Which is why he rarely tries to beat his man for pace.

When was the last time you saw him leave a defender for dead in a foot-race? Cause I can think of a fair few occasions where he's got a yard head-start but ended up getting chased down and forced to check back on himself, or try and beat his man again.

I particularly remember the game against Wolves, earlier in the season, where he had the beating of their chunky FB but ended up having to beat him more than once each time.

Clichy (31/01/2010)

Marcus, are you the messiah?

I can`t believe Sir Alex has allowed Chelsea to steal a march on us by not playing this lad regularly. Confidence is everything!

Well done Nani.

The retarded thing is he may have a bad game against Portsmouth and you will have tards saying he should be dropped for Valencia, etc and hes not good enough.

Its good cos hes still only 23 and has plenty of years left to still improve.

Feck me, Nani's been brilliant the las few weeks. Not only is his crossing great, his through-balls are very dangerous as well. Keep it up!

Won't happen. Not just for the Portsmouth game but from here on out and for the remainder of his career. He's clearly learned that he doesn't need to be perfect when he has teammates around him who can turn botched opportunities into gold. That realization has in one fell swoop removed the dilly-dallying from his game and turned him into a completely unpredictable player. No longer can defenders simply go: 'Oh, it's Nani. I'll just give him some space and he'll take four seconds to imagine how the game might develop, and by the time he realizes people aren't moving where he wants them to go, they'll all be marked and he'll have no options.'

He's no longer waiting for a teammates to make the perfect run so he can put in the perfect cross. Instead he's putting in aggressive, early balls, the kind that defenders hate, because now they can't simply stand off of him anymore. Now they have to close him down and risk his skill on the ball, which - surprise surprise - hasn't gone anywhere, he's just learned when to pick and use it.

It's a downright astronomical mental leap for a player like him, who is so technically superior on the ball that it must seem a sinful waste every time he has to use that ability on a 50-50 ball into a box filled with 6 foot defenders and then Wayne Rooney. But from here on out, he's going to enjoy the freedom that this approach gives him.

He's a very hateable person isnt he?

I know did you see that smile when they asked him about that brilliant piece of skill? What a dick!

Quite funny though, on the pitch he looks to be a arrogant person but off the pitch SAF says hes quite a shy lad

Aye, owned up to that in another thread.

Couldn't believe how he burned past Clichy like that (who's rapid himself) Lighting quick, to be fair. He needs to do that more often. No need for loads of tricks if you can blow them away with pace (although the occasional trick goes down very nicely :smirk:).

You have to wonder why he rarely did it before though.

I understand confidence plays a part, and that he's always one who's enjoyed beating a player on skill alone, but I don't understand why he didn't do it once or twice in amongst all the other times when he tried beating players with his close control.

He's a completely different player to what he was, even compared to the start of the season when he was given a run of games(and playing well).

I don't think Nani is the only player to appear slower when off form but I can't really explain why. Maybe when players are confident they see space to run in and just do it without thinking as opposed to having a little moment of hesitation causing them to lose out on the opportunity to get by. I think Rooney shares the same problem when he is off form. I think they only appear slower because that little bit of hesitation shifts the momentum in favour of the (slower) defender. I may be talking bollocks though.

I am absolutely delighted with Nani's turn of form and actually a bit shocked at just how good he's been. He's been absolutely terrific. My hat is duly off to the lad and I hope he can keep up this level of performance.

I really don't have a clue, could be that he's finally beginning to understand his team-mates and how to involve himself, which could be in part due to our playing style changing.

The same could happen with Berbatov, but then with a player as undeniably as intelligent as him you have to wonder why he hasn't yet realised that. It makes more sense with Nani because he's not got the same footballing brain(nor do many top class wingers, it's not a criticism).

I dunno, I was at a loss about Nani previously and I'm still at a loss about Berbatov. I'd be gutted if either player was seen as a failure with us because they're so talented, but it's still very much a possibility.

reminds me of another certain Portuguese player who got regularly criticised for having bags of skill but no end product - then, something clicked upstairs

:D
