Think people just confuse this...

Simultaneously the SPORTING SAD reached agreement with Manchester United for the temporary transfer, free of charge, for SPORTING SAD athlete Nani, until the end of season 2014/2015.

...with thinking we're paying all the wages. Sporting added free of charge because it calls it transfer, not loan. At least I believe that's the case.

That part was quoted in Sporting Witness' twit in that "article".

Could be, a few English sites are reporting we're paying his wages, though. Better not be the case.

Good look to him. He was one of my favourite players three or so years back, really got you off your seat with his trickery and pace. There was a time when teams started to fear him. It's such a shame that he declined so much, when he should have been hitting his prime. :(

Anyway, thanks for the memories Nani.

Having gone back to Portugal on loan I'd be amazed if we can now ever get that sort of fee for him. We've made it clear we don't fancy him so he'll move on for £5m odd next summer, I'd guess.

Pretty much this.

When we try and sign a backup/out of favour player at another club the fee is around £15 million ala Vermaelen. When we sell someone who is a backup/out of favour we get peanuts.

We'll get a token gesture for him now

Remember being gutted at Bale winning based on one european game against Inter, He's been frustrating that season apart though.

I think he'll do really well for them. Say what you will about his inconsistency and injuries, I think he was treated really unfairly by Ferguson for a long time and that has contributed to his stagnation as well. We went through long periods of time where Valencia was seen as undroppable and Nani couldn't get a game, and there were also times where Nani played well and was then dropped for the next game. In a team that values him and plays him every week he can shine again

We are paying his full wages as to cover the extra fee we would have to pay Sporting otherwise.

I think this is exactly what is needed for him to relaunch his career, who know if he knuckles down he could earn his place back with us. I don't see us losing from this, even if we are paying his wages, because a season of regular football will raise his value.

I've just read we're paying full wages, surely that's not true?

Most likely 2/3 of his full wages. Imo it was the right thing to do since we had not received any good offer for him. LvG was clear that he doesn't rate him, what good would it do for us and him if he stayed here?

We sent him to play in his country for a club he knows well. The surroundings at Sporting will be familiar and i guess he will be closer to his family. Maybe all that will help him build some confidence again.

Good thing that Sporting are in the CL. The only thing i worry about is that Sporting have been struggling for almost a decade now. They have had some horrible seasons with managers and players failing miserably there. Hope this has changed...

Hope he has a cracking season, keen to come back here and tear it up as we get back in the Champions League and Portugal roar into the Euro's. Conversely, I fear he will have an Anderson/Fiorentina spell and come back worse off, but I don't think that's too likely considering he's back "home".

Good luck to him and I hope he get's his mojo back. Of all the players we've considered letting go, this is one of the biggest disappointments for me. He's always been one of my favourite players. When he played well he could do anything with the ball at his feet. Very few attackers look almost unstoppable on their day and technically he was a match for anyone.

This loan should hopefully give him he regular football he needed and I hope we see him making headlines again.

He had that good spell around the time of his goal and performance against Arsenal but was just never consistent enough. He had the biggest pressure penalty in Moscow though so I'll always be greatful, good luck to him.

He´s ours now. I´ll drop by after the games to give the report about Nani. Now if we only could get Al Fayed´s statue as well.

It's depressing to see that we are getting rid one of our most talented players in the squad, one of the few who can win us game all by himself, but I guess he is the one who is at fault for that the most. With Fergie it was down to his contract sitation, even though it was obvious Fergie rated him very high(I always hated that with Fergie), with Moyes I have no idea why he didn't get a chance especially with awful season from our wingers, and I guess with van Gaal he blew it in preseason, but he never had a chance with 352 to begin with.

Anyway, good luck to him, after wasting 2 seasons of his career for nothing, I hope it goes well for him at Sporting.

Obviously, but it's not about wingers, all options wouldn't be good enough for the wing, apart from Januzaj. It's about wing-backs, and Nani won't play there, whereas Valencia could be useful. As a striker Nani would probably be 6th choice or something, so it does actually make sense to let him go. Whether a full transfer would've been the better option is another story. We don't know the details of the deal.
I guess it does make sense. But the guy could have been so good! ah well.

All the best Nanners. Best winger in the league for 2 seasons imo but somehow couldnt keep it up consistently. Shame really.

Never got out of the shadow of Ronaldo.Had his moments but never enough .Wish him all the best .

just disapointing its only a loan probably end up been back here nexh season.... sigh

God such posts depress me. The lad has been very good for us at times. It's not like he has stolen his wages here. Some really bad and disgraceful overreactions.

he has been shocking for two years, sulks something cronic and makes tarabt look like a team player.

He has more assists that most number 10's. Keep your shit quiet if you refuse to get your facts right.

Farewell Nani

I'll always remember when you stood up vs Bayern

and this...

and please tell me who in our current squad is capable of the above?
