Good luck Nani, hope he stays fit and gets back to form because he still has the talent to be an excellent player.

All the best to him. I was hesitant at first but now I think this is a great move on his behalf. What he needs more than anything is to avoid injury and get regular games under his belt. At Sporting he'll be getting that somewhere comfortable. If he can do that, build some momentum, there is always hope he can return to the player we know he can be. If not for United, but elsewhere. I fully expect him to tear apart that league.

Great potential let down by a frustrating inability to make decent decisions on the pitch. Could be too late for him to learn that kind of thing now.

Bebe did and he got sold. So no.

He scored a some goals. Don't think anyone felt he tore the league up. If he had been that good he would have went to the WC. In all honesty he's a limited enough player.

Nani has shown some real quality in his time and has nearly 80 caps for Portugal. No point in comparing the two.

In 10-11 season he was immense, pretty good in 11-12 too. Done feck all in 2 seasons since then though and needs a change of scenery, at least he has contributed in his time here unlike Anderson.

Sad to see him go, don't expect him to come back. One of the most naturally talented players we have and I still think he could come good if LVG gave him the trust he needs to perform, the assurance that he doesn't necessarily get substituted/dropped if he makes a mistake or has a bad game. Players like Nani try to do the difficult things and so you have to accept that they will also make more mistakes. But when they do get things right, the reward is also so much bigger than when Valencia completes a three-yard back-pass. I think a lot of United fans never got that and it's a cultural problem for English football.

Hope it's not true that we're paying his wages, otherwise our incompetence knows no boundaries.

Paying 120k/week to a player to play for another club? What have we come to? This is what City used to do with players like Adebayor, Jo & Santa Cruz when they suddenly found money out of nowhere. I really worry about how we are handing these very average players like Young, Fellaini, Nani etc 100k + /week wages so easily only for them to lose form or get injured and become nontransferable.

Rojo appears a good player and I wish him the best success with us but 20 mil fee + 20% sell on fee and loaning a player not only without a compensation in return but paying his wages as well?

In the midst of all the nonsense that generally sounds the lad, I consider his contribution here, for a relatively paltry £14 million, almost a bargain. A lot of great to very good games, fantastic goals, irrefutable end product. Plenty of frustration, yes, but he's contributed in a big way towards the winning of trophies during his time here.

Perhaps it's wishful thinking on my part, but is sending him out to Sporting, and paying his wages, some kind of planning on Van Gaal's part? If and when we do go with the 433, a revitalised Nani could be an option. I'm keeping an open mind going forward.

Another one that I will miss purely because of how pleasing on the eye his stuff was. Genuinely talented but, I guess, mental barriers stopped him from achieving his best and I'm sure we won't actually miss him on the field.

Good riddance. Now let's shift the rest of our deadwood, starting with Mr. Blobby aka Anderson.

Hope there is an option for purchase in that loan contract and hope that Nani does well and Sporting activate it.

That's one deadwood gone... lots of talent gone unrealized. Good luck at Sporting.

So depressing, a few years ago he was top 3 wingers on the planet.

I've just read we're paying full wages, surely that's not true?
Yep. It's embarrassing. As is the hate shown in this thread for a player who, while at times frustrating, has been a great servant to the club, contributing hugely to us winning several trophies and who never spoke out in public despite very limited playing time in recent years. He deserves more respect.

How much time did he have left on his contract when we renewed it last season?

I'm pretty sure there's no chance we're paying his entire wages. That's practically unheard of. Sporting will definitely be contributing some, they obviously just can't afford the sort of wages we can so they can't pay the full whack.

We gave them 20M euro, Nani AND we're paying his wages.
I want Sporting CEO.

EDIT: But, but- those swap deals actually happen!

Good luck Nani, one of my favourite memories is that game against Arsenal where he ripped them apart and came of age (only to subside again). The build up to that chip/cross goal was fantastic.
