Nani | Contract & Transfer talk

Nani was at one stage an integral player for us with a great output. It was somewhat short lived given how long he has been at the club. He's clearly too good for the Portugese league and has shown his quality again.

But it has to be said that he has been fairly rubbish for a longtime now and LvG clearly doesn't rate him. I have no idea if we would be able to move him on as he's on incredibly high wages and he will be 29 in November. Only the top teams could potentially pay his wages and I really can't see any being interested. It's obvious some want him to get another chance but his chances of game time are now even more limited due to the impending arrival of Depay.

I have no idea what will happen with him, but he could end up costing us a lot and not featuring. His new contact now looks a massive mistake. It's unlikely he would take a significant pay cut elsewhere given he only recently signed a new deal with us.

This.

It was proven he had 1 great season not that he was world class. Go over to the Harry Kane thread for evidence of a great season not a world class player argument unfolding. And this truly has been a great year for him.
Again, incorrect. From 2010 to 2012 his output was 58 goals and assists in 83 EPL games. In fact from 2009 - 2013 he had more PL assists than any other player in the league.

You need only look at the Caf in that period to see that the majority on here thought he was world class. Unless you think that at the time, when those people saw him play week in week out, they were deluded and their vision was blighted, and in fact you're the one who is correct all these years later despite everything pointing to you being completely incorrect?

I agree with this.

Harry Kane's year this year has been better than Nani's was for us too.

Nani did have an excellent year that year, and agree but he didn't even get the premier league player of the year that year, so no way was he world class, for me to be world class you also have to do it more than 1 yr I think. Trying to think of someone who I'd classify as world class but only did it one season. Can't think....

So true, as evidenced by the mighty world class Gareth Bale winning it that year with his grand total of 7 goals and 1 assist.

Cina the fan boy in you is hurting. We can all see that. But Nani has been well looked after with his new contract from us granted for performances long since gone. A horrendous decision with no club now wanting to take him off our hands for the sums needed and apparently its going to cost us 10-15m to buy out said contract. He's been more of a parasite these last few years and it beggars belief
he can still live off campaigns long faded in the memory. A talented boy without the appetite.

I'm actually loving this. You haven't been able to respond to anything I've said to you directly, all you've been able to do is go off on unrelated, weird tangents, one of them involving Falcao for some reason. I haven't even said he hasn't been good for the last few years, in fact I've constantly said he hasn't been good, like, a lot, and acknowledged that it's probably for the best that he moved on. I can only assume your balls are firmly tucked in between your legs at the moment and you're soothing yourself by rubbing baby oil all over your body.

I'm loving the fact he's gone with those boos still ringing in his ears.

That's it for me in a nutshell. I have no problem with Nani personally. On his (all too rare) days he's a game changer but DePay is the future and Nani is the past.

Well all know he's not the sort of player that can produce his best form as part of a squad rotation but that's all he's ever gonna be offered here now.

Not a marker of anything - David Ginola won in our treble winning season... and there's the ever mentioned Scott Parker win.

Are people really trying to re-write history, Nani season in 2010/2011 was immense and he also had a very good season 2011/2012 hardly a one season wonder. Since then hes been poor but lets not act like he wasn't a top player when on form.
As for the POTY thing, he was clearly robbed, he was the best winger in the league 2010/2011 YES better than Bale that season

I'm glad hes found some form for sporting and hopefully he can find a club back in the bigger leagues and get back to his best football.

If Nani came he'd instantly be our most creative player. Right up there with Di Maria.

I'd give anything to see a front 3 of Di Maria, Rooney and Nani playing counter attacking football.

I can imagine one of the Italian clubs will try and hustle a cut price deal but the problem is his wages. His feckin agent is a weasel and United were naive for buying into his bullshit about giving him an expensive contract. I wouldn't loan him out again this time because we aren't negotiating for a player in return like the Rojo deal. If he doesn't accept a wage cut to join another club then there's always space in the reserves. See how he and his agent like it then.

If LVG wants to keep him then fine. I'm not against him having another chance to reclaim his place in the side because he's very good player on his day. But it would mean Januzaj going out on loan or selling Di maria which I said before looks unlikely, unless a club is willing to pay fair amount.

That front three would give the ball away so, so much.

Ed and LVG aren't stupid. If we're stuck with his wages, then there's no way he'll be stuck in the reserves. He's still a very, very good player and with injuries there'll be spaces in the squad for him.

He's clearly a player that needs an 'arm around the shoulder' type of manager. I bet someone like Klopp could turn him into a top performer. Not sure if LVG will invest that kind of effort though.

give him one last whirl on the tour. Maybe Hernandez too.

No more loaning nonsense. Sell, or use in the squad.

I just wish Nani was given the chances Valencia had.

Typical Nani season.

Play 1 great game, play one horrid game and booed off the pitch, benched for 10 games, rinse repeat.

Typical Valencia Season
Play 5 okay games, play 5 bad games and never get benched.

I agree with this. There were plenty of games where he was bought on as a sub, and you felt that even if things weren't quite working out, he was trying to make things happen - which was something missing from a lot of our players performances as I recall at the time.

He certainly seems to be a confidence-type player, so no real surprise that he was never at his best knowing that if he made too many mistakes then he would be back on the bench for another 10 games.

I still think he would do well for us and hope he comes back next season.

Aside from this season obviously where he's played and done well in Portugal - wouldn't you say that the two seasons prior where he was mostly injured equates a 'longtime'. So wouldn't you surmise from that, that maybe Injury was the causal factor for his poor form and your bad memory?

Nani is our best winger. He along with Rafael are the best crossers in the team. He's not done 'much' because he's been basically injured the two seasons prior to this one....

Any news on Nani? Im guessing he is going to sold if anyone will take him.

Difficult player to sell given his wages. Might drag out across the summer.

Hadn't he done quite well with Sporting? Wouldn't it be worth potentially giving him another season?

I guess you never say never after the resurgence of Fellaini and Young, but I doubt it myself. Don't think Nani impressed van Gaal last summer so think that ship has sailed. I expect him to leave this summer, either permanently or on loan.

Possibly. Although LVG has seemingly changed his mind about certain players. I remember a lot of people thinking earlier in the season that he really didn't like Mata or Herrera, but they've both come into favour later in the season off the back of their good performances.

Similar to Rooney then has only scored twice I think over 20 goals in EPL.... Good player, never World Class!

If LVG is going to strongly feature Rooney and Mata next year then Nani and other skill players like DiMaria, will not fit in well. Side and back passes does not fit his style and Nani will never see himself as just a crosser of the ball
