Mykhaylo Mudryk | Reported - Failed doping test

I wonder where are those posters who claimed he's miles better than Antony and Sancho.

He was always going to struggle especially playing for such a dysfunctional team as Chelsea. Despite his age, he's still very inexperienced.

He seems so quick that it’s actually hindering him. He can’t seem to run and keep the ball out of his feet. He was always going to be a high risk signing based on the fact he wasn’t proven at the highest level. Poor start so far.

I know it's only a Youtube compilation and lots of players can be made to look like world beaters in them but watching that I'm not really seeing a player with an average technique or a poor first touch. In just about every 'scouting report' and analysis I saw when he signed, a good touch and an ability to control the ball in tight spaces were said to be some of his main strengths, in addition to his rapid pace of course. Just because he's had a couple of heavy touches doesn't make him Lukaku ffs.

No doubt he's still a bit raw and inconsistent as a player, but also probably a bit rusty having not played for two months before coming straight in for us. Either way he's got all the makings of a really good winger once he gets fully settled and builds some chemistry with the team.

The one thing that's stood out for me so far in the last couple of matches is he's seemed a bit lazy to help at the back. In the West Ham game for their goal he left Cucurella totally exposed against two WHU players by just standing around doing nothing and last night against Dortmund he didn't seem too bothered to run back when they scored their counter attacking goal and it definitely wasn't for the lack of pace. I know defending's not his first priority as a player but in the modern game everyone still needs to do their fair share of the work for the team to function well as a unit and freeloaders are only accepted when they contribute massively at the other end which Mudryk hasn't done yet. For a new player to have just come in, some rustiness or inconsistency can be forgiven but not giving full effort is not a good look IMO.

Not just that, they are Shahktar highlights. Look at Fred's videos and he looked like prime Fabregas over there.

Boehly seems to like playing poker with transfers so hardly surprising the expectations will start looming on him soon.

Out of curiosity I went to see some Fred highlights from Shakhtar. Didn't see a prime Fabregas but more like a ball carrying midfielder in the mould of someone like Kovacic, but who also chipped in with the occasional through ball or lobbed pass to contribute in attack. Even so in the video he came across a better player than the version of Fred you have, which is probably down to him not having as much time on the ball in the PL as he did in the Ukrainian league so the creative side of his game is more limited.

But even so, with the case of Mudryk I would say things like first touch and technique aren't really league dependent and either a player has them or they don't. Obviously the level of defending in the EPL is much higher but that should primarily have an effect on his end product and not so much his ability to control the football when receiving a pass or running into space.

Way too early to be worrying about him. Young player, from the Ukrainian league, inexperienced in men's football in general, came over here probably not entirely match sharp.

All these are reasons the fee was absolutely laughable, though. But they do offer mitigation that it's probably okay he hasn't hit the ground running.

Flip flop flip flop

Far to early to judge, he is just another player on the list of expensive potential signings made by the premier league.

Fred definitely did not look like prime Fabregas in Ukraine. He looked similar to how he plays here, but more effective in the worse league with a lower average level of technique/athleticism. As rnd suggests, he was able to look a better ball carrier and was slightly tidier, but still not to the level that he was a consistent creative player in the team like Fernandinho was able to be in his time there. His partnership with Stepanenko was very much two workhorses, with Fred the better player of the two, as he was more athletic.

I'd say he was around the same level as his teammate Bernard at the time; good important player for them, obviously enough there to try and make a step up, but not really playing with the sort of consistent dominance/talent where you can see they entirely outgrown that 6-10'ish ranked league level and are excited as a neutral to see what they can do in a top 4/5 league. Ismaily, Srna, Alex Teixeira, Douglas Costa (though he was still quite inconsistent) are the players in that team i think were closer to that, with Marlos and maybe Taison also at least as good/important as Fred, though they were 4-5 years older, while Fred was just entering his peak during his last season or two.

Mudryk is massively less experienced than Fred was when he moved and played his domestic football while the league is at a low point for obvious reasons. Obviously he was bought for his performances and potential shown in the european games, but in terms of the overall standard of football he is usually in, it's a bigger jump in class than it was for Fred, or the likes of Douglas Costa, Willian, Mkhitaryan. Ukrainian league was closer to the Portuguese league in standard back then, and in that bottom half of the top ten coefficient bracket for a long time, but now it's closer to 20 and has lost a lot of talent.

I think some in here are going to be quoted a few years down the road when Mudryk inevitably develops into a top class player. He's got all the talent in the world and it's no coincidence that Potter already starts him in a fairly packed team. That alone is already impressive for somebody who until his move only played in the Ukrainian league. His acceleration and technique are outrageous and he'll quite obviously come good.

I can count on 1 finger how many young wingers in the last 20 years have come from Europe and hit it off right away and his name is Robben.

Ronaldo was a step over pony when he arrived with no end product.
Sancho had to see a shrink.
Antony hasn’t done anything worth noting.
Gareth Bale lost how many games in a row.
Salah was just a pace merchant.
Hazard did ok but wasn’t anywhere near consistent as his Ligue 1 form.

Robben tore up the league and consequently was getting hacked left right and center. It might be a product of its time though as teams are definitely better tactically and technically than they were back then but I never expected Mudryk to be anything other than inconsistent. It might even take another season for him to come good.

Someone posted above he was known for being good in tight spaces. That’s not what I heard/read, which was that he had not really shown that, but he was very good in transitions. Not saying he’s a bad player, but he was definitely overpriced.

Another poor performance where he looks out of his depth. Possibly the price tag weighing him down but hasn’t showed anything to date to suggest he’ll justify his price tag.

What about that one run he went on at Anfield?

Ballon Dor for skinning Milner. So far it looks like another classic Boehly signing. How has £600m been spent so far and they still look shocking.

I remember the comments being made on this forum within the first 15 minutes of him playing for Chelsea. You'd think he were the next Messi

It's funny because he obviously does have potential, but a players career trajectory depends so much on their environment. Mudryk is one where he isn't a guaranteed top player IMO. He could get there, but is now at Chelsea where with their spending, every neutral wants him to flop. He has the massive fee pressure. He is at a club who is going through so many issues, a big transition, unknown managerial position, owner spending big to replace big signings he made from mere months ago. It's just not a good environment for someone like him. We'll see how he does, but the club you pick is so important and you just know that at another club, they would have a far different progression. You can say the same for Sancho and Pogba and Martial for example at United. Genuinely think Chelsea is the same, though we'll see if they hire a competent manager in the summer as that's all you need.

Maybe but what is football if not being able to laugh at a player from a rival team regardless of what happens in the future

Seems like how you continously talk about Sancho

I like him. Will be a worldclass player. But I can see him achieving this level only when he leaves

Is he still the new Hazard?
Or is there a chance rating him that off ONE game was a bit utterly ludicrous?

Well he was the Ukrainian Mbappe based on that debut. Now he's been downgraded a hair to the Ukrainian Bale, but if he scores against Spurs he'll be back up to Mbappe level obviously.

In all seriousness though I don't get the Hazard comparisons - Mudryk is a lot more explosive pace-wise and less technical in tight areas. Hazard frequently was a one-man attack for Chelsea and usually was at his best in central areas - for me pretty obviously the closest analogue in Chelsea's squad to Hazard is Joao Felix.

Is he injured or anything?

Must win game for Potter and he didn't start, and wasn't one of the 5 subs to come on.

He's undercooked and needs time. Can say that for pretty much all the signings in last window.

Bunch of kids who'll take ages to adapt. No guarantees of how good they'll end up or not.

He's basically shite and they got rinsed badly for him
Very harsh. He's far from shite but his value is much less than what he was bought for that's for sure given his limited matches for Ukraine and Shakhtar.

He also got advised so badly by agents who probably got way more money by him signing for Chelsea over Arsenal, where they had a proper game plan for him and we'd be seeing a better player.

You cannot say/write that as if it’s fact, ludicrous.

I predict he will do much better next year. He wasn’t playing before he made the transfer. He is behind on match fitness and thrown into a team that’s all over the place. It’s not the best environment for anyone to thrive.

Whether much better justifies the fee is a totally different topic.
