Mykhaylo Mudryk | Reported - Failed doping test

Clearly the doping was done by the Ukrainian government whilst he was with the national team so that he would get banned as a footballer and could come home and fight on the front lines against Russia /s

Convenient way for Chelsea to terminate his contract. Just so happened to be an underperforming, expensive dud.

Chelsea are absolutely not terminating his contract and taking a £45-50M hit in one go for his remaining value on the club's books. Doing so would almost certainly result in an FFP breach and a points deduction.

If Mudryk indeed does get a lengthy doping ban the club will probably end up saving a bit of money by not having to pay the player's wages but however you want to twist it there's no way this is "convenient" for Chelsea because any savings in wages are still going to be minimal compared to the fact we'll still be down a player and will have even less of a chance moving this expensive flop on for any kind of money once the ban is over.

Starting to sympathise with struggling players who’ve made big money moves, especially the young ones.

It’s illogical to a degree with the money and situation relative to the rest of the world, but the humiliation on social media these days is wild.

Especially the ones like Antony / Mudryk that were almost failed by the buying clubs lack of common sense.

100k per week for 8 and a half years... Todd Boehly must have dropped a P Diddy in his drink.
Chelsea will sue him for lost income like they did with Mutu and I’m pretty sure that contracts have break clauses to protect clubs in case of players failing doping tests. No chance they won’t have those in place, especially with the lawyers these clubs employ.

The fact that a person took performance enhancing drugs, while they have been struggling to raise their performance level for quite a while, does bear some element of irony. I wonder if others might have noticed that.

I mean surely it makes sense that’s when someone would take performance enhancing pills? I mean you’re not taking viagra if you’ve got a hard on without it, are you?

Didn't that take like 14 years to shake out?

I was just joking around. But regarding your example, people do so all the time.

Chelsea will be absolutely delighted at this news as it probably gives them grounds to terminate his 9 year contract!

I always thought his biggest weakness was brain anyway, as he seemed fast even for EPL standards. he shouldn't have to bother with that shit.

I'm sure they welcome a legal battle, complete disappearance of any resale value and writing off over 70 million euros on him. That is a very reasonable reaction.

Would make sense for them if it wasn't for FFP. Mudryk has been at Chelsea for roughly two years which means he still has 3/5 of his book value translating to €60M. If they terminate his contract, those €60M are accounted for as losses for this window and it would likely mean that Chelsea is done for considering their recent spendings. They likely have no other choice than sticking with him.

Performance wise, I don't believe that's true. Mudryk had been more useful for us than Antony had been for United imo, certainly until this season. He's only been playing in the conference league this season, so can't really gain or learn anything from scoring against that level of opposition but last season, watching both players, the eye test was telling Mudryk was playing better football and the stats for both of them kind of support this.

Obviously when you introduce a failed doping test and a potential lengthy ban into the equation, then the scales tip heavily in favour of Antony.

Just for discussion's sake, Antony was 'good' and a fairly regular contributor to ETH's first season where we achieved our highest points tally (bar Mourinho) and won a cup. Last year he was shite and in the current one used very sparingly but he may have an opportunity to contribute at the RWB spot given his recent promising cameos. Antony's best assets are his work rate, ball retention, close ball control and ability to progress the ball; most of his work in done between the boxes but of course he has very little productivity i.e he's a progressive player and not a final ball one. What's Mudryk done for you thus far or could have in the future given his qualities?

By the way I know it's a very low bar as ideally we'll want to move on from Antony as he's certainly not worth the transfer fee but it is what it is for us and I assume the same for you (pre-drug test)?

Before the drug test Mudryk was contributing more when on the pitch. Not where he should be, but more than under Poch.

Good to hear that he’s proving to be a bit more useful this season. If he can carve out a role for himself in this Amorim team, even as a backup wingback, that’s at least somewhat positive.

Mudryk essentially ended last season as the starting LW, ahead of Sterling and his surface level stats were decent - 7 goals 2 assists in about 2000 mins. He showed promising improvements in his passing, off the ball movements when we were in possession. His positional and tactical awareness is still horrendous, but there was something there to work with, it’s just taking longer than expected to develop him.

I think for Mudryk, an environment away from the bright lights at Chelsea is better for his development. His showings in the conference league, albeit terrible level of opposition, was doing wonders for his confidence.
