Arsenal fans will love that when he's doing the same in 3 years time for Madrid or someone.

Players come and go. It is their career and you just wish them well. Most players are running their contract down and leave for free anyway.

I still don't think Arsenal/Edu can close the deal.

 You know full well if he was employed at Arsenal and was flirting with potential clubs on instagram you lot would be rioting.

Arsenal's attack is already the quickest in the league and this guy will make them even more annoying to play against sadly. He has explosive pace.

May be for some. Players are running contract down. It is the trend. If Arsenal can't match the player's ambition or salary, and the player want to leave, just get the compensation/transfer fee and move on. No need to keep an unhappy player. There are so many players out there.

Shock, they end up paying what Shaktar want. Welcome to the big boys Arsenal, this is how it goes up here.

€70m for an unproven player like him could be a disaster of a transfer. He just has had 6 good months and that too in Ukrainian league. I think this will go wrong for them.

I don't think so. He's rapid quick and very direct, generally the archetype for players who do well in the prem. Think he will be great for them.

Again, I may be wrong but still €70m is too much for an unproven player. People will point out Antony and I do agree he was overpaid as well but atleast he played 2 good season with Ajax.

I am curious to see how this transfer will work.

This should not be compared to Antony transfer
1. They play different positions. Left footed Right wingers are difficult to find.
2. He was not an unknown as he had played under ETH before so ManUtd knew exactly what they are getting and he has played in better league for longer to prove aswell.
3. Ajax did not need money as they had already sold many of their first 11 players.

Even after all these reasons that was an overpay.

But this tranfer is almost like Extortion. In some regards this is exactly like Pepe transfer as when the interest started no one expected the price to be so high.

Dan James was rapid and direct

Agreed all round really. I feel like these big transfers work so seldomly anyway, let alone coming from such a relatively small league.

All that being said though, he does look exciting.

For every Dan James there is a Salah, Haaland, Martinelli, Saka, Mane etc. He may well not meet expectation but I'd be surprised. I watched him against Madrid in the CL and you could see he has ridiculous talent.

If they've got the money it seems a good move to me. Arteta can't manage bigger players so creating competition with young, pacy, enthusiastic players is the way forward for them. Might not work out but that's true of any transfer.

Seems a strangely big move for a player who’ll compete directly with arguably their biggest attacking talent in Martinelli.

I’d probably choose to spend my money differently but Arsenal have done quite well in the market recently..

Let’s hope he’s a big-time Jens Petter Hauge. :wenger:

There's five great players for every one average one?

I suppose Martinelli can play anywhere across the front three though, similarly to Richarlison at Spurs so he can be cover for all three spots. I'd still expect him to be the starting LF but if Jesus is injured he can be the CF etc.

Almost €100m euros with add ons:lol:. Is he that talented? I think not. He might not be rapid and direct and that no use in the premier league if you are not technical enough and have high iq.

So is Adama traore and so is Alan saint maximin. That’s no where a required skill to be successful. It’s a fallacy. You need to be skilled, have good IQ and football intelligence along with the technical ability to be great in the premier league.

I mean it's 80m Euros. Is that almost 100m now?

It’s €70m guaranteed plus 20/25m add ons according to the likes of Romano. Just like Antony who wasn’t 100m but everyone keeps mentioning 100m for him.

Saint-Maximin is doing alright .

Firstly, Saint Maximin isn't doing poorly by any means. To address your point - of course football IQ and technical ability is required, nowhere in my post did I say it wasn't. Generally speaking though, the best players in the league who operate in wider areas, are direct and rapid. Of course, like with anything, there are exceptions though.

Also I'm not sure if you've ever watched Mykhailo play, but he is very technical, so the point doesn't stand anyway. His decision making and link up can be improved upon, but he's only 22. He has the ability to be a great player for them. Whether or not he will be though, we will have to see.

Anthony was 95+5 from google.

Mudryk is 70+20.

Not quite the same?

Dan James is also a man in a 12 year olds body that gets flung around like a crash dummy at the slighest amount of force. It's like Gravity doesn't exist for him.

Speed is useless if you have zero balance.

Depends on what those 20-25 million is based on. If it's like Nunez deal which is mostly based on appearance then it's as good as 90 million.

Na from everything i've seen the 20m will be hard to get.

We offered the deal the otherway at first, less upfront more in add ons, but they wanted more upfront and less in the add ons. So I imagine it's based off us winning trophies and him winning personal awards etc rather than basic appearence add ons etc.

Still €90m for an unkown kid is too much. Especially for someone who just has good 6 months in his bank. Big money signing are not always successful but in fact puts more pressure on the player.

I agree it is. But.. I suppose Edu and Mikel have earnt some right to be trusted now and just need to hope that they think it's right.

They passed down Felix for being too much. We've also let other targets go for being too much.

So.. if they are willing to go hard for him must be for a reason.

So clubs should stop making big money signings?

United are probably to blame for that cost in fairness with Antony being used as a yardstick. If Arsenal are keen and would rather have him over an alternative not much the player can do about the transfer fee. I'm sure he will still want to go.
