Technically most signings are identified by the heads of scouting but the credit is given to the DoF.

But in this case, we can say that Potter has been influential in signing the player because the head of recruitment he brought over from Brighton to work within your club structure has gone and done the deal. And I presume with Winstanley's track record as a recruitment head, he would've had a dossier on the player.

I would bet a lot of money that Potter's involvement in this signing was this:

"Potter, would you be happy with this guy"?

"Yeah, sure. I trust you.".

It that makes it a "Potter" signing then fair enough.

I don't know and you could be correct. But Potter has been allowed to make changes to your recruitment structure and has brought over Brighton's head of recruitment who is reported to be the one finalising the deal for the player in question.

£62m up front and around £25m in add-ons.

Looking from the outside I think that you are in a pretty good position with a bunch of young and talented players. You will find someone else and be fine.

I know, still stings a bit, no point in trying to act all 'didn't want him anyway.' Think he'd have been a great weapon in this league. That's Raphinha we wanted and didn't get, rumours about Neto we wanted and didn't get, and now missed out on Mudryk over €5am after wanting him for months.

The social media stuff before he’s even signed is bizarre. Weird club.

Clearlake just bought Brighton's recruitment team along with Potter and then added a Technical Director from Red Bull. Not sure how much involvement Potter had.

It's not as though they're making some big summer marquee signing of a global superstar, either. They're spaffing 80m on some lad from the Ukrainian league while they're sat in midtable.

It all seems pretty strange.

Maybe, just maybe, the club knows a bit more about how far along this transfer is than Adam Crafton.

Just because it's not been officially announced doesn't mean it's not all done.

Don't forget Lisandro.

We'll wait until after our loss to Palace tomorrow to announce it just to keep fans a little happier.

I know you’re conditioned to back your club at all times but please just admit your whole operation is a shambles. Go on.

Why not wait until it's officially announced before posting about it on your Instagram? is I guess the thinking. Not a big deal either way tbf.

Who is this guy. Why is he worth so much money. I had not even heard of him prior to Arsenal being linked with him.

What is Boehly on

Dude, you are now straight playing insider on every transfer...
Ridiculous..

I’m not sure that’s the point Crafton is making tbh…

Had a decent half season in a third rate league, and I think I saw him look halfway threatening against Wales in a losing effort once.

So yeah, given recent PL history, pretty much your standard €100m signing.

looks a talent but spending €100 million on a player that’s 22 and only really started playing to a high standard this season (in the Ukrainian league) is a massive gamble!

It suggests they want the staff who did it Brighton to do again at Chelsea.

Tuchel was put in crappy position at the end and dealt with it incredibly well in my view but in bringing in 2 recruitment people plus a techincal director, it's pretty clear they don't want to make the same mistake with Potter.

It’s all very confusing anyway.

Would be interested to hear from Tuchel what happened. I’m sure he’ll speak about it in the future.
