Moyes Was Sacked One Year Ago

One year on, what do you think about Moyes now?

Yeah percentages means if you throw enough shit at a wall some of it will stick

I only saw the first four options at first so went for the fourth, now I have changed it to the fifth option.
I already thought he would be the worst, but he was even worse.

I can't describe how relieved I was that day. I was grinning ear to ear, just relieved to know that people running our club actually knew their shit and weren't going to give this guy another year. I was grinning ear to ear all day from the moment I heard the news.

I think 'three little birds' was constantly playing in my head all day as well. And that's just because he was sacked.

Happy Moyes sacking day everyone.

Today is actually my birthday, so last year was definitely the best present ever getting rid of that clown.

What a great day for us all! Rejoice people... rejoice!

To commemorate this first anniversary, I'm going to try and go for lunch later on, possibly for a sandwich... but whatever food substance I get, there's no doubt I will try and make life difficult for it. I'll certainly be doing my best to finish it all.

Happy Moyes is sacked day everyone!

Betcha some journo turns this thread into an article, like so:

UNITED FANS CELEBRATE 'MOYES IS SACKED DAY'

Manchester United supporters on the popular RedCafe website forum have delivered the final insult to former manager David Moyes by openly CELEBRATING the anniversary of the Scotsman's brutal sacking etc etc. Whether this becomes an annual event remains to be seen but, even if it doesn't, we'll write a story about it anyway. Meanwhile, Mario Balotelli tweets something about the weather, and Karren Brady poses in a bikini; more news as we shamelessly scrounge through the internet's bins.

i honestly don't even remember a second of that everton game. i'd obviously become so accustomed to every half decent team turning us over at that point that it failed to register at all.

Surely it would be

UNITED
fans celebrate the BRUTAL sacking of MOYES in what some might call, but we couldn't possibly comment on it, a character ASSASSINATION.

Id probably flutter between the third and fourth option depending on mood. On the whole I would say it was a mistake. But when I really think about it I think I subscribe to the "palate cleanser theory" that he was necessary. And if he wasnt necessary, his troubles where somewhat inevitable, even if they might have been milder with better handling. If Van Gaal had taken over directly from Fergie I think his 6 month settling in period would have been harder - fans would have been less patient, players would have been more frustrated....

It was always going to be difficult but Moyes made it worse than it needed to be.

Happy Moyes Is Sacked Day everyone.

Percentage football would be playing to percentages

Example; Cross the ball into the box 90 times per game and its going to lead to 5 or 6 chances by law of percentages.

So yeah, like you say, not real plan as such. Basically no deliberation in how we play, more a case of if we excersize X so many times it will lead to result in so many Y's

Yeah percentages means if you throw enough shit at a wall some of it will stick

Thanks, that makes sense.

A decent five minute video to remind us of Moyes' year in charge.

*Shudder* Watching that feels like remembering a bad dream.

I vividly remember where I was when I saw the first tweet with rumours of his imminent sacking, that's how much I wanted it to happen at that point. Horrible to say, but it was the highlight of last season.

Poor Moyes, but he was always the wrong appointment, he was completely out of his depth.

Where is the Man Utd Forum thread discussing his sacking as it happened? Can't find it with the search

If you can't finish it all mate don't worry, just use it as motivation to try to aspire to that level of sandwich finishing one day.

That is true, I'm sure I can go from good sandwiches to great sandwiches soon enough... though I'm wondering if I even want a sandwich now... think I might want some pasta... or maybe a salad... no, I do want a sandwich... or a burrito... feck, a jacket potato is a lunch food right? RIGHT? Help

He only needed to actually sit down and watch the (albeit successful) campaign from the season before to realise that many aspects of our play were malfunctioning. Our spine of de gea-ferdinand-carrick-rvp hauled us through game after game and a fresh playing blueprint was needed.

He wasn't helped by influential media people connected to the club like gary neville (which basically means phil neville too) saying, upon his appointment, that moyes had to stick with tradition and play 442 with wingers when it was plain to see that our flat midfield and our one dimensional wide men (i know young has turned it around but my god him and valencia were shite for those 2 seasons) were a big problem. He never seemed to fully grasp why this wasnt working with perhaps the home game against fulhan being the nadir and the distressing 'i dont know what we have to do to score' remark he made in light of the fact we crossed the ball a trillion times to no avail.

Unbelievable that in the space of a year United went from literally blasting Villa off the park to win title 20, to having to get rid of a manager who was never ever going to be up to it.

What a wasted season 2013-14 was!

The worst thing was the expectations of some part of our own fanbase which got incredibly low. One of the most annoying and depressing question from those ppl related to this whenever someone questioned Moyes or Phil Neville was:
"What has Moyes/Neville done to not get a chance here? How do you know what kind of job Phil is doing? They haven't proven in the past that they are the wrong ppl ..."

I swear I never had a job interview where I was asked why I shouldn't be given a chance. Instead I always had to prove why I actually deserve a chance and when did I acchieve similar success in the past.

But at arguably the biggest club in the world some ppl and definitely Moyes seemed to think United is either an NGO or a training academy for incapable managers.

By the end of it he had become like an evil Game of Thrones character.

Voted "Necessary Evil". I still feel that the players had no respect for him, rightly or wrongly. I still stand by both the decisions ( to appoint and Sack).

Last year, was a reality check for the fans and the club and it was needed. Anyone coming in after Fergie, was going to be under so much pressure.

If you are dithering about deciding what to have for lunch mate better to just skip this lunch window altogether and hope you can buy some world class lunch in the next few lunch windows.... maybe.

This also gets repeated a lot. If players didn't believe in him and didn't think he was going to take us forwards plus they disagreed with his methods and were afraid that the club was heading in the wrong direction, all of which seems to have happened, then it's obviously normal for them to put less effort into games than they would have under a competent manager. As someone who has been mismanaged at work I can tell that the effort you put into your daily tasts varies depending on the quality of management.

Van Gaal has been under just as much pressure as Moyes, perhaps even more because we spent a lot of money in the Summer and couldn't afford another season without Champions League football. We were also struggling a lot in the first half of season and even 3-4 weeks ago it looked like we might drop out of top 4 yet again - now after a run of very tough games it looks more likely than not that we will manage a top 4 finish (the race is however still open and let's not count our chickens yet).

I can still remember a super awkward video of Moyes being showed around the inside Old Trafford and Ashley Young appears out of nowhere with a cup in his hand and looks at Moyes as if he doesn't have a clue who he is.

It must have been so bizarre for the players seeing Moyes of all managers telling them what to do.

I don't think anyone has ever said "What has Moyes done to not get a chance here?"

Imagine going to an interview: so Mr. United, tell us for the things you haven't done wrong so far in your life/previous jobs.

Best interview ever.

he couldn't really do worse in the league, he was humble hardworking man out of his depth for a club like ours... Januzaj getting into team was a positive from that season. Almost forgot the Evra goal mentioned here.. there were a lot of disgraceful performances that year but the worst perhaps the one against Norwich around Jan. It was maybe the most boring game ever played in history of football. I wanted to commit suicide after the game because I always finish watching every game no matter what.. that was incredibly depressing..
