right, he's basicaly a poor man's Fergie.
and it's not like I think he's not a good manager, but why should a club like United settle for anything other than the best?
And I assure you noone thinks of Moyes when thinking of the best managers (available or not)

I'm still holding out on this being an unsubstantiated rumour. :(

"In Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex we got in managers who got involved in all aspects of the club. That degree of loyalty is crucial to the success of Manchester United. He (the next manager) needs the required football experience in terms of domestic and European requirements, so it is a small pool."

This to me rules out Moyes.

It's clearly Moyes. I've never seen so much smoke without a fire.

Moyes has never won a game at United, Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool.

45 game record.

It's Moyes. Also, he's had 36 games in Europe. Not enough experience for me, but its experience I guess.

I think it would to everyone and thats what baffles me to be honest.

This is the problem for me, it seems a bit rushed, a quick fix just because he's available. Why not wait until the games have finished, the season is well and truly over and then weigh up the options properly?

Just woke up to the news, im fecking devastated. :(

I'd rather have Ole over Moyes tbh.

feck. This cannot be happening.

This was what I thought of this prospect in March.

Moyes doesn't feel right. It would be too much of a comedown. Going from SAF to Moyes would be like someone coming into your beautiful home in the middle of the night, dragging you out of bed, throwing you into a featureless cell with a bowl of gruel and slamming the door shut. Old Boy style.

I think it would be more like if you woke up in your beautiful house but they'd dragged it to Dudley. Not Doncaster or anything, just a really unspectacular town.

Greetings from Dudley.

I'm hoping that Fergie has pulled an absolute masterstroke of a smokescreen to get one over on the press - as things stand atm all of tomorrows papers will be covered front and back pages with Moyes to United; how funny would it be if Mourinho (or another top manager) was named in an official club statement tomorrow at 11am, there would be some serious backtracking by every single football reporter on the planet!

this is what I'm holding out for anyway!

Give it a few hours like the rest of us, you will slowly get used to it or at least slightly more used to it. Scroll back a few pages and read the Moyes-Puns, that would set you in good stead.

No chance, there will have been a few important people at the club that knew about Fergie's plans, and I think Fergie probably picked Moyes as his replacement years ago.

Not to say the appointment is any less baffling.

Really hope it's not moyes. He's got his Everton side to play more attacking football this season but in general the football his teams play isnt very technical and usually is a bit dire to be honest. Also, there's a question mark over whether he can do the job at a big club like united. His record aGainst top teams for a pretty good team like Everton is absolutely pathetic. Finally, would a player be inclined to work with mourinho/pep or moyes?

What's a guy gotta do to get noticed around here?

What are Evertonians making of this news?

SSN were interviewing a couple of people outside Goodison, missed most of it but I heard one guy say he deserved a club a money as it's something Everton could never offer him.

I can understand why the club might opt for Moyes.. Less downside.

A safe pair of hands. He might be a big success, and be the next (semi) Fergie. If he's not, he won't steer the club off a cliff.

United wouldn't treat someone (in this case Moyes) like that. We're far too classy.

I think they have known for a while now as they were already in talks with the replacement, the plan must have been to announce it on Sunday but someone has gone and leaked the story to the press.

Thats the problem I have with this if its true, its all fairly uninspiring. I get the stability, cut from the same cloth comparisons but his lack of experience at the top level is a big flashing warning sign to me.

If it is true I just hope the Fergie magic has worked again. It wouldn't be the first time he's made mugs of us with player signings that turn out to be inspirational.

If we do get Moyes, I'd say that we're much more likely to sign big-name players this summer. Investors will need an assurance that United can keep on winning.

Bale!!!

Ronaldo!!!

Osman!!!

I don't understand, yes he's done very well with Dortmund however his track record was made a Dortmund. So if he can do it why can't Moyes come here and do a Klopp (I.e. be successful).

Agree. He's a decent manager, he's a safe and boring option. I mean, for the biggest club in the world to go from the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson to David Moyes would be fecking weird. What the great man has built deserves someone of the highest pedigree with fresh and interesting ideas to take over. Maybe moyes (if chosen) will surprise me but it seems a strange move for a club of united's stature.

I hope you're right... finish 5th and all bets are off...

I agree, but as far as i can see united haven't named anybody at all, this is all being whipped up by the press because of the bookies chopping their odds.

I wonder if the board will hold/have held intereviews with any candidates, or not?

The problem for me with Moyes is that his appointment will generate zero excitement, I don't see him exciting the players, the staff or the fans and this lack of excitement will be his downfall, already fans are complaining and that is largely down to the lack of excitement this appointment would create, you really need to have everyone up for it when you have a new manager take over.

The stability argument seems to be the main one in favour of Moyes, but I'd wager there's a better chance Mourinho would be here in 2/3/4 years than Moyes.

I don't understand how you can look at his success at Dortmund and still romanticize about the cinderella story that is Moyes. It's a rags to riches idea that I don't see working out.

I'd love to see the parallels between the two managers in terms of financial spending, youth development and success at their respective clubs. Nevermind the fact that one of them is playing in the CL final this month :wenger:
