Moyes To Succeed Ferguson Anyone?

I had a look at the Toffee Talk forum. It's a mixed bag of reactions, tbh; some praise Moyes, some are glad to see him go. No hatred though.
Ok, thanks. You never now with rival fans as most players at least become hated from their own fans as soon as they go to United.

The overreaction to Moyes is crazy. He's a good manager. It's David Moyes not Tony Pulis, ffs.

He's the safe option but I think he's a good one. When you hire someone abroad you run the risk of them failing to adapt or not adapting quickly enough and getting left behind. He's good in the transfer window too which is a plus sign. Might bring Fellaini with him which would be great news.

People need to give him a chance if it is him. It's hard enough trying to replace Sir Alex without the fans bitching about your appointment because you're not a certain Portuguese troublemaker who'll bring success at a massive cost then feck off in 2 or 3 seasons maximum.

There's going to be a lot of people looking rather silly when Moyes retains your PL title next year :D

We're Manchester United... we should aim higher then "good"

This 'European experience' argument is getting tedious. If it's any consolation, he always gives us a game with Everton, and we're one of Europe's best teams!

That has nothing to do with it though. Setting out a team in Europe, especially in away games, is a different ball game and while a manager has to start somewhere admittedly, being thrown right into it in the Man United job is a massive risk that may not pay off.

I'll be really disappointed and worried if he gets appointed. None of our rivals (Barca, Real, Bayern, Chelsea, City) would appoint him. He has no European pedigree. I like Moyes personally and he's done a decent job at Everton but he's nothing spectacular.

I struggle to see him attracting big name players. One of the main reasons we got van Persie is because it was Fergie himself pestering Arsene into submission.

By all accounts, Spurs wouldn't appoint him.

This is horrible...

No matter how much his supporters point out the upsides, and no matter much how much I want to throw my support behind the man in charge, there's no getting away from the fact that Moyes wasn't who I wanted.

So I find myself, for pretty much the first time in my life (I wasn't really quite old enough to make an informed opinion on Big Ron), worried that our manager isn't the right man for the job.

Welcome to how every other football club's fans feel for a large part of the time.

Ugh.

Sky sources: Everton manager David Moyes to be confirmed as Manchester United manager in next few days

This is the biggest negative for me, the ability of David Moyes to attract the best players. However our track record over the last few years, apart from Van Persie, has not been good anyway.

The same Barcelona who appointed an inexperienced Guardiola? The same Madrid and Chelsea who go through more managers than I do underwear changes?

Don't think we'd have attracting huge superstars btw. We're Man Utd for god's sake. Ronaldo, Benzema all signed for Madrid when they had Pellegrini incharge.

I know right?! It's a horrible feeling.

My worry too tbh.

I do like David Moyes. But I have some big concerns.

Call me crazy, but it seems to me the only reason for Fergie to announce his retirement when he did was to make it possible to land Jose.

But if it's Moyes, let's all get behind him...110% behind him.

14.00 Breaking news:

David Moyes has been appointed as the new manager of Manchester United, according to talkSPORT.

On the radio station's website it reads as follows:

The former Everton boss has agreed a deal at Old Trafford and will join the club at the end of the season. Sir Alex Ferguson announced his retirement on Wednesday and the Red Devils have acted quickly to land the ex-Preston man.

Guardiola was a club legend. Most Madrid and Chelsea managers were hugely experienced in Europe

Moyes' time at Everton, and now really thinking about him being our manager, raises some concerns.

While at Everton, he made do with a tight budget, which worries me that he might do the same at United if the Glazers decide to clamp down with Fergie gone. They did similar to the Bucs after their Super Bowl appearance. Focus on low-cost young players and move them on when they demand money. Moyes won't have the influence to demand anything from the owners. Especially with Gill leaving also, Moyes' budget-mindedness bothers me. We don't know how he'll handle having money or if he's very effective at spending it. He's bought some absolute plodders for fairly large sums(Beattie, Yakubu).

His record in the Champions League is virtually nonexistent. He's been to one FA Cup final. How does he handle the high pressure situations of the top end of the table late in the season? In knockout competitions?

Stylistically, he's not very exciting. Everton rarely play expansive, attractive football. Will he know what to do with strikers?

Barca appoint assistant managers, coaches and ex players.
Bayern gave Klinsmann a job on the back of International management only.
Chelsea appoint managers on the basis of "flavour of the month".
Real Madrid appointed our Assistant Manager not long ago. They also had a phase after that where they were appointing nobodies.

It makes just as much sense if it's Moyes.

Do Moyes and Rooney still have a problem after that little spat a few years ago where Moyes was threatening to sue Rooney?

Rooney called him to apologise.

First: Sir Alex says we're looking at 1-2 players
Second: Ed Woodward says we don't need to invest
Third: Sir Alex resigns
Fourth: Manager used to doing the job the cheap appointed

Hmn....

As long as we can lambast the decision up until it's officially announced

Trophies Won - 0
Champions League Group Stage Qualification - 0
Experience with a big budget - 0
Experience managing the worlds best players - 0
Experience in competing for titles - 0

If Moyes doesn't get off to a very good start, he could do a Hodgson at Pool or Rafa at Inter.

Can we post facepalms until the official decision? And then of course get behind him after it

All this "cut from the same cloth" business - basically means that he's Scottish, right?

At least SSN are acknowledging that Everton not knowing anything about it isn't that relevant given his contract situation.

Thats the other thing, you can guarentee that if we dont win our first game, the new manager will face all sorts of shit from the press, god forbid if we start like we did in 07/08 with no wins in the first 3. The press will have a field day. Would Moyes be able to handle that? How would he cope under that? I really dont know.

Whereas someone like Mourinho will have far more freedom with the press as they love him here, and even if they did turn on him, he's got the experience to handle it.

If it is Moyes the club will deserve some credit for going the British route, for taking a more risky option in some ways but in others a duty of care to the traditions of the club.

I reckon Fergie will act as an advisor for Moyes. He'll be on hand with any guidance or help the new man may need. Bob Paisley worked as a consultant for Dalglish in his first couple of years as player manager. It worked out very well. No reason why a similar arrangement won't work for United.
