Moyes To Succeed Ferguson Anyone?

I don't see the need to rush this appointment as has been stated. We've got all summer.

Would be silly not to have the new manager lined up ready for next seasons preparations. Will need as much time with the current squad as possible, and I imagine that's also the way United see it.

Would he even be in the running if he wasn't Scottish I wonder?

He will obviously get my full backing when he's inevitably appointed but I really don't see what he's shown compared to other managers to even come close to getting the job. It's also the dullest, most uninspiring choice we could make for so many reasons, and no, that has nothing to do with him not having a fancy foreign name.

Moyes going from Everton to United is like giving him the keys to a Bugatti Veyron after he's been driving a Toyota Prius for 10 years. Yes, he can probably drive it, but will he know how to handle it?

No, the likes of Unai Emery, Gregorio Manzano, Lucianno Spalleti and Manuel Pellegrini aren't even in the running despite doing a much better job then Moyes in their leagues.

The nationality plays a role, as it plays his experience in Europe. His quality is something else though.

According to Goal.com Arsenal are going to sign Jovetic and want Lewandowski

Think I'll wait till someone sensible says its Moyes

Sky Sports reporting announcement could be made this afternoon

I would be surprised if it was made this afternoon to be honest, very quick though then again maybe they want to move really quick.

Well it's quite possible Fergie announced it this morning because the club do want to announce the new manager this afternoon. Can't really do the latter without the former.

I'm certain the club would want to announce the new manager as quickly as possible, considering the stockmarket and how shareholders tend to react to risks.

Its a good point. Should we f.a.p?

I wish United weren't doing this so quickly. It'll take the emphasis off the great man's retirement & place the successor under scrutiny even before the season's over. Although, come to think of it, this is probably SAF's idea: he was always about moving forward rather than looking back.

He's won a trophy at a far smaller club in a far, far shorter space of time playing far better football.

And then his team have completely stopped playing. And that is a trophy which Steve Mcclaren and some other mediocre managers have won and big clubs don't care for much.

By that logic Martinez might win the FA cup which is far more prestigious but also get relegated. Will you like him over moyes too ? Wigan are pretty entertaining.

Whilst I agree to an extent, this is a publicly traded business and the investors will want assurances, quickly.

Ah yeah. I didn't think of that aspect, mate.

Wigan nearly get relegated every single year, Swansea are in 9th place.

I'm not saying Laudrup would be perfect, but he's a very talented manager and won a trophy that Moyes didn't, in 11 years.

That cup run in the League cup 1 season, seeing other managers who have done it too doesn't matter much to me. Laudrup hasn't achieved and rebuilt any team consistently.

Would i be wrong to say, his record in Spain wasn't great and he quit when it became tough ? Can't recall fully.

I've got no doubt Moyes is a strong enough character to handle the off field stuff, its on the field that worries me, has he got enough nous in the big games?

Of course he wouldn't. Same as a PL manager with his pedigree wouldn't be in the running for a Real Madrid, Barcelona or Juventus job.

The article says he's been personally cherry picked by SAF. I wonder what the criteria are? Perhaps with a decent back-room staff, SAF feels he has the right managerial qualities to compliment whatever technical qualities the other staff provide.

You're such an arrogant, condescending plonker, why do you have to pick on everything someone says?

Laudrup is doing a good job at Swansea, plays good football, just won a trophy and has them completely over achieving. Moyes has been reliable but has basically had Everton in the exact same position for 11 years, hence I would prefer the former.

feck off and find someone else to argue with over absolutely nothing.

Wish we had time to digest Fergie's retirement, instead of moving on straight away to Moyes

If you had a choice, O'Neil or Laudrup?

OK, bad choice of site, but it's all over everything, and have you seen the odds recently?

It's Moyes.

But do go ahead and discuss why it should be Mourinho.

I'm not saying it'll be wrong, it's just the hilarity of you using goal.com. That's all.

I'd be happy with Moyes fwiw.

Laudrup is far too flaky to be considered. As soon as he's in the door he's talking about leaving in a year or two to try something else.

He failed in Moscow and to an extent at Mallorca, he was decent at Getafe and got them into a good UEFA Cup run where they almost knocked out Bayern in spite of being down to 10 men for likes a 100 minutes. Good game that, they were 3-1 up and 4-2 up on agg with 5 minutes to go but conceded two and went out on away goals.

I think it's bullshit that Moyes Scottishness has a role to play in being selected for Man Utd job.

This forum gets weird sometimes.

Also,if Mourinho comes to Chelsea and someone like Pelligrini goes to City, how will Moyes measure up against them?

To be fair to him, he's one of the few people who have stood up against Fergie on the touchline convincingly. In the 4-4 last season he even mocked Fergie for tapping his watch. That takes some fecking balls.

Huh ? It's a forum, and if you say something you do it in a discussion. Not to make a announcement.

Where have i been condescending ? If you disagree with me it's fine, but what's to get offended over if i disagreed on something you said?
