Moyes So Far!

One of the main criticisms of him of late has been the lack of rotation, particularly at the back. Saturday was the first big set of changes, from memory.

He's a cnut for not resting players and a cnut for rotating too much. I hope he just doesn't pay any heed to what others are saying and just does his own thing because if he was to start trying to pander to United fans he'd want to name two team sheets for every game.

I don't quite get this perspective. Off the top of my head so far this season we've seen:

De Gea
Buttner
Evra
Fabio
Rafael
Rio
Vidic
Jones
Smalling
Giggs
Nani
Young
Carrick
Fellaini
Cleverley
Anderson
Januzaj
Kagawa
Valencia
Rooney
Van Persie
Welbeck
Hernandez

That's nearly two full teams, I'd say there's been a fair bit of rotation, although his persistence with some players in some positions is questionable. He's still trying to find the right balance.

Naah, there is pretty much a unified opinion on the caf about what our strongest team is, bar one or two positions. He could start by playing them all together once or twice, atleast for the home games and try to get some understanding built between them. Rotations should be for one or two positions, not all at once.

A lot of that was forced at the back due to injuries - further up the field there have been too many changes in my opinion, the midfield area in particular. As he says above, it means the links between pairs of players (fullback&wing - centre mid partnership etc) is not happening.
Plus it is not just about rotation, the way it is done is important. A couple of times I have noticed that the likes of Anderson or Giggs dont even make the match squad and then next week they start - I find that a bit strange to be honest.

OK, but apart from Rafael who has been injured and resting Evra where has he picked the wrong team?

I think he needs to try Fabio when Raf is injured but it's not some glaring error and anyway has no part of the discussion about rotating.

Players need to be played, players have been injured, players have been out of form, a player has been signed. There are all the reasons why we haven't seen a settled team.

There are always some reasons to pick some player over the other. He has made a few mistakes with the team selections but that has been done to death and I'm not going to go into that. All I ask for now is to see our strongest team get a run out. Is it too much to ask for?

Nope. I just don't think it's a case that he's over rotated.

My biggest gripe as I've said in loads of threads has been the wrong back 4. Get that sorted and we'll win games.

Agreed. The "lack of rotation" was largely about Evans and persisting with Young, then he rotated but kept Rio and gave us Alexander fecking Buttner.

Hopefully he will settle for the right starting side and rotate 1-2 per game subject to oppo, then use the cups to experiment a bit. We need stability in the league.

To be fair, I'd have played Buttner against West Brom, too. Was a game begging to get a few of the squad players out. Rio had a mare and it cost us.

Rio and also the generally shit attitude and tempo from the entire team. It was obvious throughout that we were the better team but we never seemed to want to play at even half speed.

Indeed, but the lack of tempo is nothing new. It's a shame because it looked like we had it in spades against Swansea..old habits dying hard?

The West Brom game is the only time I've seen it from us this season. It hasn't been a pattern. So I'd say it was more a case of inexcusable one-off complacency than old habits dying hard.

Well that is exactly what I want to see - more stability in the side. At the moment there is very little and I think it is a clear case of using too many different players.

I think it is partly because we have such a big squad and too many options, plus Moyes is still assessing the players so is trying to give everyone a run out but preseason is over now so it is time to start getting more cohesion in the team.

I am not against rotation but Moyes has admitted himself that he needs to find the right balance

I am not either, but the way he has been going about it reminds me of Benítez' ridiculous rotation of Torres and Gerrard whenever they seemd to be finding their feet. You can and should rotate and keep people fresh but with an eye on not upsetting the team finding their stride.

I imagine he has been quite keen to try people out, give them opportunities, etc. but, as you say, we are no longer in preseason and the one thing that will upset players more than not getting opportunities is being part of a sinking ship. The Januzaj contract situation isn't helping either, Kagawa shouldn't have been subbed but Buttner.

Basically, he is probably over-eager and trying to do too much too soon, which is understandable. He's got to stop it though. Experiment in cups, get to six points today and we can look into using the CL as well but not the league, never.

"My biggest challenge is to knock Manchester United off their f*cking perch." -David Moyes

He's doing quite the job.

Obvious joke is obvious.

I really hope that style of football is just a means to an ends for the moment right now and not his philosophy. I couldn't take 10 years of that away from home, awful football.

Decent result but the performance was poor and laboured again. Apart from Rafael, there was no urgency or tempo to our play and once again, we failed to create chances.

The lack of subs again from Moyes is disappointing. Nani should've come on, possibly Hernandez too to try and snatch a late goal. We look so uninspiring in our football right now, as if we're scared to try something different.

Moyes is, right now, uninspiring.

We could have won tonight, but again settled for a draw.

I suspect if he was asked, he'd say he'd take a point against Sunderland away.

He should be made to watch videos of big cats catching and killing their prey, on repeat over and over so he understands what going for the kill means

Unfortunately he played that way for 10 years at Everton, so it's the latter.

If we draw against Sunderland against a crap team without a manager...

The Giggs substitution was predictable but not as predictable as the result of that substitution.

Overrun in midfield. Why or why...

I will never call for his head, the guy was SAF's man and his judgement is beyond criticism. What I will say is that I am getting a little sick of constantly setting up so negatively and leaving our best attacking players on the bench.

Why the feck did he push Fellaini forward for the start of the second half?

It was just pointless and stupid.

What annoys me most about Moyes is that he plays for draws. It goes against United's tradition and it makes me a little sick. It was a concern that Moyes wasn't a winner in joining United but I had no idea he would tuck his tail between his legs in every away match.

Wish we'd gone out gung ho and gotten beaten 4-0. Moyes is a bender 4 life.

some of you need to just feck right off. "go for the kill" away in donetsk. have our bad CL performances in recent years not taught you anything. we looked poor going forward but most non united fans and pundits will agree that tactically we set up very well for an away tie and arguably should have one. donetsk really took the game to us 2nd half, theyre a very good side, that was our toughest game in group and they have a fantastic home record. bring on kagawa or nani ffs

ive been appalled by our start to the season but if youre not happy you werent entertained tonight do feck off and support somebody else or another sport.

So you never watched us play away in Europe under SAF the last 6/7 years at least?

Defensive mindset. Conservative set-up. Shit on a stick football. Poor transfer window. Looks poor tactically from what we've seen.

His start couldn't be any less inspiring really. This is probably his best result bar Swansea actually.

I thought he picked a sensible team tonight and it was a decent result. Really not keen on Fellaini though.

Right, because 1) quality of players is same at Everton and United 2) This was some shit team in Europe where he should have been going gung ho, eh?
Wonder why the match against Bayer looked different to me where we played as we were expected to.
