Moyes So Far!

His tactics were spot on and the half-time sub was perfect. He still got several things wrong, but it was better than I expected. His starting lineup and substitution of Young was poor though.

This is what he tried against City, people were very critical of that but it shows it wasn't a bad idea. That first minute goal kind of just messed his entire plan up.

I don't mind these kinds of performances against the big teams, give them the ball, defend deep and then ferociously hit on a counter attack. I think we could have done much better against Chelsea, Liverpool and City had this been the game plan and I would have no problem with him building his vision to be like this.

Against the teams that themselves wish to park the bus we would need a different strategy however once ahead we could revert back to this system.

I see beauty in defensive football, people will complain and say it's boring but I think continuously watching Bayern too isn't most interesting.

The away leg will be fun to watch even if we do get slaughtered. Rafael will hopefully be back with Evra on the left and Jones in the middle instead of Fellaini. I would drop Rooney to make a midfield three and let Welbeck goal hang. Play Valencia right and Januzaj left maybe.

To be fair, the last two times we faced Pep, Fergie did things very differently.
Those were finals. The tactics today were used by Fergie in knockout matches from 2007 till he retired. It was only against teams like Roma, Marseille, Schalke that we went out and attacked. Against the big guns Milan, Barca, Real we sat deep and hit on the counter.

This would feel really good if we didn't all know that Moyes will then go and feck it up against Newcastle at the weekend...

Not bothered about the Newcastle match. Rest any players that need a break and concentrate on next week.

Changes nothing for me. Being the underdog seems to suit him best. Lucky for him that's what he's turned us into.

Well done David Moyes. Got it very right this evening.

Good enough team selection, but morseo, I like the way he lined up the team. Likewise, excelelnt bold substitutions, esp Giggs for Kagawa at half time.

Finally all that work in training paid off as I thought our defensive display was world class: organised, synchronised and executed to near perfection.

It may not change my overall opinion on him, but it's exceptionally mean spirited or agenda led not to credit him when he delivers.

Yeah I really don't care about the Newcastle game after that, we are still well in this tie so resting basically all those expected to start is more than acceptable. We have nothing to play for in the league.

Moyes did what he had to do. I wish that Fergie did that against Barca in the 11 final as we might have won. It doesn't change much for Moyes, we parked the bus and got a C grade result. The tie is still Bayern's to lose. Shame that his big man from Everton let him down on the goal.

I'd rather we play reserves against Newcastle. Keep everyone fresh.

I would play this against Bayern in the second leg:

---------------- De Gea ----------------

Rafael - - Ferdinand - - Vidic - - Evra

- - - Jones - - Carrick - - Rooney - -

Valencia - - - - - - - - - - - Januzaj

- - - - - - - - Welbeck - - - - - - - - -

So against Newcastle the only real dilemma is right back:

---------------- De Gea -----------------

RB- - - - Smalling - - Evans - - Buttner

- - - - - Fellaini - - - Fletcher - - - - -

Nani - - - - - Mata - - - - - Kagawa

- - - - - - - - Chicharito - - - - - - - - -

And that team would be fine.

You want to throw Januzaj in at the Allianz? Hmm... :nervous:

No problem with Moyes' decisions tonight (even if I wouldn't have brought Young on), and the team looked well up for it. Fellaini still looks woefully out of place though.

I'd swap Januzaj and Kagawa, and I think Young will start with Nani coming on for some game time later in the game, but apart from that no real issue.

Kagawa playing in Munich also allows Welbz, Rooney and Kagawa to interchange and pull defenders about.

I just feel pace down the left could work because of how attacking the full backs are. However Nani would be preferred but he hasn't seen any games therefore that is risky.

Giggs played as a left midfielder today but I don't think that will work and Kagawa is good at keeping the ball and although quick, I don't think he'll be able to cause the same problems down there.

The alternatives aren't brilliant so it's a tough one.

Good performance, but except a CL win, there is nothing he could do to change my mind this season that he should be sacked.

This, I've maintained a place in next season's CL is the minimum target, and it's his own failings that has left winning it as the only route to achieve that target.

Moyes has set his sides up in such a fashion for years, the fact we were underdogs tonight may well have suited him.

It's sad how much he lowered the expectations about us for this season. Still an horrendous season. Clearly can't motivate the players either. I mean this performance looks like the champions of last season, why couldn't we do that against Liverpool or City? Because the players couldn't care less anymore, which is sad, but it should be his job to motivate them.

Good manager, but look at what Simeone or Klopp did in the last few years, that's the kind of manager we should bring in.

Remarkably bloody quiet in here tonight. Odd, that.

Moyes already has a better record against Pep Guardiola than SAF

"I believe I can go to Munich and get a goal"

Thats your place at the club up shit creek RVP

I give Moyes a lot of grief but he deserves great credit for tonight. I wonder how he'll approach the 2nd leg now

The "Support David Moyes thread" isn't exactly a party either.

It was right up his alley, indeed, reactive football and all that. I figured we're not going to get heavily beaten but I still thought we'd lose because of Bayern's quality. But we did better than expected in nullifying them so well done for that.

Give credit. In first half looked to me that there was too much distance between back 4 and attackers-Kagawa coming on allowed for more link-up play in MF. Nice change. Defending was disciplined-Rio and Vida played really well clogging up the middle. Still in the tie-nice result.

Fickle-o-meter is firmly on "COME ON DAVE!" reading right now.

Certainly did. I'm much more confident than I would ever be otherwise to get a result at theirs because of this. It's not rocket science, every shit team does it.

:(

Credit where it's due. He could have been ballsier but it was refreshing to see our players look as if they'd been told to do more than just run about a bit. They played like there was a clear plan, with clear tactical instructions and they all appeared to know what their jobs were (except Fellaini).

His big test for me is games we should be dominating. Can he do that?
Not perfect tonight but I have too few complaints to be in here moaning.

This type of match is his calling, a situation where you must react rather than initiate but unfortunately it doesn't cut it in the league, our bread and butter competition .

He made the most of our squad today to get a decent result against the best despite low morale in the squad. That's a big achievement and im glad to see he's capable of such things in Europe.

Well if we bring Evra back in then the Robben Road Show will surely roll . Just keep him out as bad as Buttner is I actually prefer him now, Evra has been that bad .
