Moyes So Far!

Article still suggests Fergie believes Moyes will keep his job even though it's not his decision. You'd imagine he has some basis for thinking that from what goes on at boardroom level, although apparently he has little to no contact with the Glazers.
Been unsure how to interpret that article myself. From one viewing, it could be Fergie distancing himself from the final decision whilst knowing what has to be done, so as to avoid going back on his earlier statements. From another, he's doing it to give the impression that Moyes can survive without his support and that the Glazers decided to keep him on his own merits (despite Fergie actually pressuring privately). From another, it's straight down the line with no shenanigans either way.

Ryan Giggs is not pleased with the way he's being treated by David Moyes[GETTY]

Moyes is already committed to a frenzied spell of high-stakes transfer activity – now Sunday Express Sport can reveal that big changes could be on the way on his coaching staff.

Despite denials, there has been a falling out between Moyes and Ryan Giggs with the 40-year-old Welshman believed to be considering his Old Trafford future once the season ends.

Moyes promoted Giggs on to his coaching staff after succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson but there have been some heated exchanges between the pair over some of the training methods and tactics.

Giggs also believes he has been under-used, especially when the club have been up against it and in need of some uplifting results.

Some disgruntled fans have called for Moyes to be dismissed and replaced by Giggs until the end of the season.

There are also long-term doubts over Phil Neville's future as first-team coach alongside assistant manager Steven Round.

It's believed the relationship between Moyes and the former Manchester United player he brought with him from Everton isn't as strong as it once was.

Moyes will take stock of his backroom staff in the summer and is expected to make changes.

The 50-year-old Scot still enjoys the backing of the club's owners, the Glazers, former boss Ferguson, influential director Sir Bobby Charlton and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

He will work closely with Woodward during a summer which will make or break his Old Trafford tenure.

If David Moyes, David Moyes, is allowed to force Giggs out, I will literally not watch another United game until Moyes is gone, either by sacking or the end of his contract. Shambolic state of affairs.

Who says he's special ? I was talking about his work at Everton because he clearly created a fine team there which Martinez is operating now with good results.

It neither takes great brains or great ability to build teams like he was doing at Everton.

He was playing shit on a stick football and grinding out results and four times on the verge of getting sacked in the last three years, as he wasn't taking the team any where. The last time Everton board imploded with infighting, its only United's outside interest on this guy that made them persist, with a hope they would get paid to get rid of him. But we offered them a double whopper by also taking Fellaini along with him.

In contrast, Martinez after loaning Lukaku in has transformed Everton completely, the style of attacking football and results he has offered so far compared to the the dull laboured with under Moyes.

It's the Express, so I wouldn't worry too much. I'd like to think there's no way the club (and Fergie) would side with Moyes over one of the biggest legends the club has ever seen.

He's got a point about Guardiola having a year out to learn German, Moyes has yet to have a year off since he's started managing, hence why he can't speak English.

“A lot of the stuff I do is a building plan – I’m here to build a team which I’ve done in the past: take it forward and introduce young players, that is what I am trying to do,” Moyes said.

Guardiola also inherited a daunting legacy and, if anything, Bayern have improved, but Moyes is quick to stress the differences.

“He had a year of preparation before he took the job in Munich,” Moyes said. “It gave him the chance to learn German, watch the games, so I think he did take over maybe a bit more prepared and ready. Also, with respect, he took over the champions of Europe which means they had a lot of things in place.”

So what did Moyes take over, a Sunday league side? Did Fergie leave nothing in place..?

Did he really say it like that ? Man, this guy is a nightmare for any PR guy.

Guardiola joined a different country and league after taking a break from football for a whole year.

Moyes simply moved up the ladder to a team he played against many times in the same league he coached for over a decade.

Yes, the Bayern team was superior, but that also meant completely different expectations. With the level of coaching he displayed he would be gone before christmas at Munich.

Which idiot thinks that?

Even Giggs running the show for the next few matches, shouldn't make an iota of difference. He certainly cant do any worse.

At least Rio and his best mates would stop taking snidey digs in the media, and fans would be some what content regardless of the results.

We're now siding with Moyes against SAF himself, and questioning SAF's mismanagement of the squad on his last year. I don't think turning on Giggs would be that hard.

Like you said Lukaku was loaned not signed because that transformation you're talking about may be just a temporary upgrade but good point - Martinez had a good nose with finding a talented player that made an actual impact.

We'll see how R.M. he'll do in the next 10 years in Everton.

It will be the tim sherwood effect, we appoint a novice manager with no experience. The initial fews results will be good due to him not being moyes and then the fans and giggs will be clamoring for a long term contract.

And we will be in the same situation next year, but this time we would have a legend managing us rather than david moyes so it will be even harder for the board to turn against him.

The chances of him succeeding at united with no managerial experience(not even reserve football) are really low.

I don't think we'll need to do that to reach the conclusion we're after here. We could just look at Manchester United by then and see how the past 10 years went, and get straight to the point.

Moyes does realise that the German season starts in August? He only had a few months not a year!

And Moyes took over the Champions of England yet he won't shut up about how old the team is and how much work there is to be done!

The man loves a good excuse! Problem is none of them make any sense.
He is a defensive manager, is now on the defence(of himself). Don't worry when he switches to his plan B(he never has one) he will be out in a flash.

That's just too depressing to even consider right now. It's all so very Kafkaesque (yo).

A few interesting comments since I went out. So, let's see:

I actually think the forums represent the view of the fans better, because they are freer to express their opinions than the ones who go to stadium.

That's quite a shame because I love the concept that football fans should be acting as customers who demand the best out of the club. Like KeninDC indicated and implied, there is no such thing as a bad fan if you voice out your concerns. Like anything else in life, being able to speak out against something you don't appreciate is priceless when you have the power to.

Do we really want the fans during a game to go the Blackburn route with their abuse of Steve Kean? The board don't need fans to tell them everything is not great by just witnessing results and performances.

Well, negotiating a new contract for the clueless Kean was a nutjob's decision to begin with and we all saw it: the Blackburn board was extremely stubborn. Much closer to us, Liverpool fans managed to run Roy Hodgson out of town and rightfully so even though we would have preferred them to keep him a little longer. I know that the tolerance threshold is different for everyone. Nevertheless, there are times when fan power should be used to maximum potential, especially when a board of directors either acts on stubbornness or lacks transparency on a worrying level.

To tell you the truth, I'm a great supporter of fan power in all sports. Funny thing is that the best 3 clubs out there at this time have a number of fan-owned shares. ;)

It's only Sunday Express. Giggsy's going nowhere.

I think I genuinely hate the prick. I honestly can't stand him and how much of a complete loser he is and how much he has completely munsoned the United job up the absolute hudsucker proxy twat.

Isn't Bob Cass a decent enough journo?

Fergie (IIRC) admits in his book that Cass is the only Journalist he ever really trusted which is why he fell out with him when he quoted some off the record transfer chatter. Reading that article, I reckon that is as close to Fergie washing his hands of Moyes as you are going to see and probably as public a reply to Moyes' complaints of the squad Fergie left him as Fergie could realistically give.

If that happens, it will be more than the last straw for everyone supporting United when it comes to supporting Moyes.

Can't decide if that would be a good or bad thing from a wanting Moyes out point of view at least.

If anything, the ball would be in the Glazers' court now. So they will decide if they want to be more hated than they already are by making the wrong decision should they keep him while United keep sinking OR they will do everyone a favour by cutting losses like any good owner would do.

If true which probably wouldn't surprise me, we are virtually reliving busby's succession, just replace bobby charlton not having any faith in wilf with giggs and moyes, really is turning into a farce, all those years to plan for SAF's retirement and we still manage to feck it up.

Give him time, let him bed in and learn English. His analysis of the teams is interesting though, he's right that Bayern were Champions of Europe which is a big help considering his side were only Champions of their League.

Jesus what a load of old guff, he would probably say something ridiculous like there is an alien conspiracy to sabotage his first season at united if he thought it would buy him more time.

Why is he still allowed to speak, makes himself look a plonker every time he opens his mouth, the club should hire someone with sense to sit beside him and get moyes to run his answers past them so they can vet them for the muppet before he actually says them out loud.

Did Sir Bobby not have faith in Wilf? If that is the case, I am surprised by his blind show of faith towards Moyes.

That would be as strange of an irony as what Johnny Giles said about giving Moyes time on RTE when he was the main contributor to Clough's downfall at Leeds.

I dont think anyone fecked it up but Fergie himself. The options he had at his disposal for people to take over from him were numerous and yet he went with Moyes.

I think what Moyes is saying is that he needs a year away from management.

I think we owe it to him to give him that.

Seriously it's crazy. We chose David Moyes of all people. Hearing him talk about guardiola feels weird. It just reminds you of the gulf in class between the two, which is blatantly visible to anyone else who has seen their respective teams play. Guardiola is a man with ideas that have pushed the envelope and seeks perfection. Moyes is a tryer. Like saf said, everyone loves a tryer.

I wasn't around then but from everything i've read over the years and what my old man told me, charlton was none too impressed when wilf was appointed and didn't think much of him as a manager, may have been critical of him to busby (ironic considering his stance on moyes).

Heres a link to a story where supposedly wilf humiliated him in front of the team:

http://www.stretford-end.com/2011/1...n-uniteds-managers-in-between-the-two-greats/

Any older fans who can shed some light on how things were between charlton and mcguinness during wilfs time in charge?

In hindsight it does seem absurd that in a summer where Mourinho, Guardiola & Ancellotti changed clubs we appointed David Moyes good manager though he is, when busby retired there was talk of Clough and Stein but they went with Wilf Mcguinness so make of that what you will.

They say if you forget your history you are doomed to repeat it.

Should I get Ray (M. Bobbins) right, McGuinness ripped the heart, the soul and the passion out of the team. As a result, United paid the price for 25 years. I don't think there's anything worse than such a leading at the helm of a sports team.

No wonder why I always love reading history books and texts on virtually anything that interests me. Patterns are always repeating themselves, especially when we don't pay attention to history.

Why is it so surprising to United fans to accept that maybe managers like Pep or Jose might have refused the job. We hardly have the most awesome squad compared to the likes of Bayern or Chelsea or even dortmund

I don't think it would be a huge surprise to anyone if both those managers preferred to go elsewhere but we didn't even try to get them according to woodward moyes was first and only choice, i think the fact we didn't even consider another manager is probably what people are having a hard time understanding. I know i am.

We must have tried for other managers when fergie decided to step down. I remember Gill mentioning a list of managers who would be considered when fergie decided to call it a day. I am sure we will hear more of it in the future.

Gill said a few years back that we would need a manager with title winning and champions league experience to replace SAF this criteria must have been forgotten about, and supposedly gill wanted mourinho but no one else did i have heard also, in the interview woodward gave with i think it was andy mitten.

He basically explained the process of choosing the next manager they asked ferguson he recommended moyes they all agreed they then discussed a few more managers but only to rule them out as they already knew who they wanted. Well at least thats how i remember the story.
