Moyes So Far!

Which teams are challenging for title this season, and what are their position? if we are replacing one of those team's position next season, then let's say we are title challenger.

You make some parameters and then I'll see if I agree. I think we will do well, just to make that clear and you think that we will not fair so well? I like a flutter and spend a fair amount of time on here so won't really mind paying a bit if it turns out I'm on the losing end.

Good result today, changes nothing though. He will be here next season no matter what happens.

I'm inclined to agree. I thought perhaps a tonking from Bayern and the contractual failure to achieve CL football would be the trigger, but I think they're going to keep him. I just hope he spends that money wisely. Very wisely.

I never said they weren't allowed to express their opinion. Although the club and a hardcore of fans seem very keen to make sure that those who do not want Moyes as manager are prevented from voicing their opinions. Hence the plane, it was borne out of frustration that nobody is listening.

No it wasn't , it was borne out of some misguided notion that match going fans thought the same way they did, and only needed a prompt to voice their concern over Moyes. But it fell flat on it's face and shows that fans on forums ,twitter ect are miles apart from match going fans.

Funny, that's not what was said by the organisers, and I'm tempted to think they know why they started it.

This guy is such a prat. Everything that comes out of his mouth makes me cringe. Just not a winner at all. Negative, dour, hopeless. He always "tries" and "hopes" and "strives". feck off. Just "do".

Won against a useless Villa team today that should've drawn level at 2-2. Bayern will bring us back down to earth with a bump. A big one too. Couldn't fathom the backing he got today. Yes I didn't agree with the banner, but chanting support for this total spanner as a reaction is only making the situation worse at this point. The board will never sack him. Annoyed.

This. I was raging when I saw the reception he got. I don't think these fans realise they are delaying his departure, and therefore damaging the club, by continuing in their support. Apparently many of the match going fans have lost patience yet they don't let that be known vocally.

16 points from Chelsea to Tottenham in 09/10. 12 points from us to Arsenal in 10/11. 20 points from Man City to Tottenham in 11/12. 16 points from us and Arsenal in 12/13. Then whatever the distance is this year. How about we average that and say we will finish within that amount of points or at least 4th position? So I'll say we will finish within a certain amount of points or in the top 4.

The planned protest was a bit silly IMO. But the applause for Moyes as if he was some sort of heroic figure was equally weird. It'll take a long time for the club, as a whole, to wake up to his lack of quality for this club.

In the last Caf poll 90 percent wanted Moyes out. Of course that was taken immediately after one of our lame results, but still a large majority. I have no idea what the results would be now, particularly of match going fans.

But, even assuming it's 50/50 amongst OT attendees-I get exasperated reading some posts that criticize any potential method to express, at OT, displeasure with Moyes. I've read that booing is inappropriate, the plane was classless, etc. Usually such a conversation ends with-if you don't like it, stop going. Which, BTW shows you to be a fair-weather fan.

TBH-I don't get it. United fans are "allowed" to want Moyes out, but any expression of this sentiment at OT is somehow antithetical to being a United fan?

OK-the plane was a lead zeppelin idea. But-surely there must be a way to express dissatisfaction with Moyes at OT that will catch on? If there isn't, then to me the only logical conclusion is that match-going fans are OK with Moyes staying.

I'm surprised he even managed to beat Villa with the awful, poor, aging squad Fergie left him. He's done really well.

Agree mate. It's going to require a lot of blind faith.

The worrying thing is I'm all out of blind faith. That evaporated after the City game.
The only thing I can think of is he must have fantastic transfers lined up. Adding to that he must have a vision or at the very least a plan, that has convinced the board he deserves time. There can be no other reason why he hasn't been sacked.
I refuse to believe that the board are going on blind faith, or I should say I pray they aren't.

The most obvious explanation is that the regular match going fans haven't had enough yet. Their natural inclination is to support United. Organized protests against Moyes may not be the first thing on their minds - yet. And in my experience there has always been a great difference between what you think of the players and the manager - and what you express when you're stood singing at the match. It's not the same thing. Fans take pride in being fans - making noise, out-singing the opposition, especially when things aren't going well on the pitch.

There's a world of difference between going to a match - to support your team, regardless of who is playing, regardless of who is in the dugout - and moaning about the state of things down the pub, or on some Internet forum.

So, that's one thing. They may not love David Moyes much more than the average Caftard does - they will still behave differently when stood singing at Old Trafford.

On a slightly different note I doubt very much that the fans at Old Trafford will keep Moyes in a job he can't handle no matter how long it takes before they positively turn on him. For the board it will be a matter of results. If he can't get us challenging again, he's gone. It seems that many - on here - are worried that our match going fans NOT booing or chanting or waving banners in the air somehow contributes to the imminent destruction of the club Moyes is set to bring about. And this idea is, frankly, preposterous. I can't think of another name for it. In the interest of getting Moyes sacked as soon as possible people are now resorting to wishing the team to get hammered - and to bashing "deluded" fans at Old Trafford for not turning openly on Moyes. And all of this in the very first season after Fergie's retirement. It's baffling to me.

who is stopping you from voicing your opinion? Every thread over here is bombarded with anti moyes stuff, with some posters even openly expressing their hatred. Twatter is full of abuse vs moyes. What s wrong with most match going fans not doing so? different people with different opinions - no one is forcing anything on anyone. No?

Yeah, I hear you. I guess at the least we better have some top quality players in for the next manager if he can't make it work.

When the board does not consist football people, I just don't know if we can count on their judgement. It's about Fergie and Sir Bobby.

He's won 4-1 today people, the ranting should be off, until at least Tuesday.

I'm finally catching on now.

When we win it's because we should have beaten them anyway. When we lose it's because Moyes is hopeless.

It wont be great transfer that gets me back on board with Moyes, it will be a run of games where we consistantly play exciting football with menace and intent. We could sign the 10 best players in the world but it wont matter if Moyes has them playing the dreary football we have played for the majority of the season.

Sort of agree. One good result shouldn't change anyone's opinion but it should at least result in a bit of a cease fire.

No, it shouldn't. It's that exact mentality that acts to prolong his tenure. Plus, there's plenty to moan about from the game today.

Maybe this is a cultural thing. But over here in the states, under a similar circumstance Moyes would be ripped a new one by fans at the stadium, on the internet, on call-in shows: everywhere. And nobody would consider that such behavior makes him/her a bad fan. So this disconnect between what fans are really thinking and their actions at the game is hard for me to understand.

That's why I have to conclude that match-going fans, when push comes to shove, are OK with Moyes, at least for now.

I have an awful fear that he will panic buy, the man is under such pressure that he may buy the wrong player in the hope of changing things.
This is without a doubt the biggest gamble the club have ever taken. Even if he does buy established players, there is no guarantee that a new manager would rate or want those players.

That's the spirit! Always an upside - even to a disappointing 4-1 win which could potentially damage us greatly through buying the bastard some more time.

True. The other concern is the prime targets go elsewhere and he settles for second-tier replacements. You just know Toni Kroos is going to sign a new deal with Bayern, etc.

I don't buy into this good fan/bad fan, gloryhunter/toppredd thing. Fans aren't a homogenous group. This dichotomy is usually used on here for point scoring. I don't think people who want Moyes out are bad fans, nor would I think so if they showed up at Old Trafford with banners. I'd call them impatient and perhaps even a bit spoilt - but not bad fans. There are posters on this forum I consider to be fecking idiots when it comes to this Moyes debate - but I don't doubt for a second that they care as much about United as I do.

He won't panic buy. This window has been the focus all season long. Woodward has clearly been lining up targets throughout the season, and I wouldn't be surprised if we made a number of signings including a LB, CM and CB before the world cup.

Or so I tell myself

The disconnect between actions and thoughts is also hard for me to understand as a human being, especially regarding an environment where you're supposed to let yourself out. This is not a high society meeting or an evening night involving suits; it's a football match where emotion and passion should be genuine. For me, there's nothing to make sense about when someone is holding such a discrepancy between thoughts and actions in such a context.

Indeed. The summer is going to be an interesting if not exciting few months, sign the right players and he might get full backing, sign the wrong ones and the pressure will mount.

I hate this argument that match going fans are better/more entitled to an opinion than other fans.

What about fans who don't live nearby? What about fans who live in another country? What about fans who can't afford a season ticket? What about fans who have other commitments during the week? The list goes on and on... Are they lesser fans? Is there opinion invalidated by their lack of attendance? Nope.

A fan is a fan, and they can say what they damn well like.

It's odd. I'm of the opinion that you shouldn't say something to someone's face and something else behind their back. So-why would someone applaud Moyes and sing he freakin' name at OT and then complain about him at the pub, on-line, wherever. I just don't get it.

If every time we win a game we feel this way, he could actually stay for 26 years of this crap...

Hear you, but if people are still ranting like mad after a 4-1 win, you have to ask questions.

I'm sure there'll be other lows this season to go ape sh!t over. Today wasn't one.

Apparently this what what being a United fan is all about. Think someone is wrong for his job, that he's harming the team, tell that to everyone you know, to the guy next to you at the stadium, then sing your heart out for him.

While I can understand the idea of support if you believe in Moyes or unsure about him, if you believe he's wrong for us, then that is weird attitude.

Everything that was said prior to the match can be said after the match, there's absolutely no problem there and absolutely no questions to be asked. The doubting or believing he ought to go should not change because of one game.
