Moyes So Far!

Moyes has said umpteen times that he takes the responsibility for what is happening. Equally, the only people who can turn things round are the eleven men on the pitch. So of course the onus is on them to play a bit better.
And him to lead them to achieving that of course.

If the whole thing wasn't so tragic, that would be quite funny!

People focus way way too much on what he says. There's nothing wrong with those comments.

We were all pretty happy with a number of his team line ups, so I presume that comes down to the tactics. The problem is he seems in awe of the players and won't drop the star names. Trying to accommodate them all in the side. He needed to show courage and drop a player if it was better for the team. The players maybe needed to man up a bit as well. It is easy to just coast through games. They should be capable of changing a game, that is where a lack of a leader comes in.

Drop who exactly? We've had like a zillion different team selections this season.. Not one has looked good. He can drop whoever he wants we would still be shit.

Premier League - Moyes: United fans 'understand and support me'
David Moyes insists he retains the support of the majority of Manchester United fans.

A group of supporters have clubbed together to pay for a light aircraft to fly over Old Trafford on Saturday, trailed by a banner that reads "Wrong One - Moyes Out".

The United boss said fans were "entitled" to organise such a protest after recent results, but the Scot insists he is supported by most fans, the club's board and the playing staff.

"Everywhere I go I get great support from Manchester United supporters," Moyes said.

"I was at a dinner last night for Darren Fletcher and there were Manchester United supporters who came up to me and said 'come on, keep going, we understand exactly the situation the club is in and team is in'.

"They were really supportive and every time I have been to Old Trafford they have been great.

"I am seeing a lot different from what a lot of people are saying but I understand that results matter."

When asked about the fly-by, Moyes said: "I have heard of it and what they are saying about it, but this is something which is a long journey here, this is only the start of the journey.

"People can do that. They are entitled to do that."

Moyes, whose team lie seventh in the Barclays Premier League, insists the protest against him has only strengthened his resolve to turn United's fortunes around.

"I am more driven to succeed more than ever. I want to change this position we are in now and I believe we can do that," he said.

"I am hurting and the players are hurting but we are working hard."

Reports of unrest among the playing staff emerged following Tuesday's 3-0 defeat to Manchester City - the club's sixth home defeat of the campaign.

When asked if he retained the support of the playing staff, Moyes said: "Definitely. I have no reason to suggest anything else.

"We work together and have a great relationship."

Who were these supporters? SAF and SBC?

He insisted on trying to pick RVP and Rooney, then since January signing Mata has created another problem for him. So Mata then gets played out wide. RVP getting injured has actually eased it for him in a way. SAF signed RVP after he already signed Kagawa. Thankfully RVP stayed fit and scored a load of goals for us. We have a deluge of number 10's. He hasn't helped himself changing the side all the time, but defensive injuries have caused a lot of that and not having a proper back up for RB. Vidic and Rio are on their way out, so Jones and Smalling or Evans should have been building a partnership. Injuries have wrecked any chance of that happening and the thing about playing Jones in midfield. Jones has the potential to be an England Captain, he might just end up as another John O'Shea.

I really want to know this. Are the majority of match going fans still backing him to come good?

Definitely City supporters

Just watched the press conference there...I sighed in exasperation, all will be fine eventually according to David...and the fans love him...

Miguel Delaney's comments about how happy rival fans are Moyes is our manager just made me laugh. If I wasted energy getting angry about it I'd just get myself down.

Did he actually say that today?

Yes, a man who has never built a title winning team, or a team that could get into the champions league, or a team that could win the FA cup, or a team that could win the league cup, is now a football mastermind. Who needs £200 million and plenty of time to turn the defending champions into a team capable of challenging for a top four spot, only real football people understand this mammoth task super dave is facing, and only he has the credentials required.

What's wrong in what he as said?.And what's so smug about it?.

Because primarily, he's wrong. Manchester United is not a club that needed or needs "rebuilding." That notion is a laughable one. A couple of midfielders and replacement for Patrice Evra is not a rebuild. It's natural progression. He's insulting the club and the great opportunity and set up left for him.

It's smug because it implies that anybody that doesn't agree with him has no understanding of the game. It's like he's a regular dick in the pub having a crack with his mates. You know the guy. Bellowing "well everybody knows 'insert x'," while everybody sits there and acknowledges that he's actually an arrogant knob.

It's smug because he's saying that everyone criticizing him don't know anything about the game. It's very condescending. As for the rebuilding thing, what is he rebuilding? If we'd had a ton of players leave after last season, fair enough. But we won the league by 11 points, and upgraded the squad (Fellaini over Anderson and Mata over last year's Scholes are both pretty big upgrades).

What if it doesn't work and we lose 100m on transfers and we don't qualify again for UCL (which would bring the total cost of Moyes experiment at around 250m (165m for transfers, around 100m for not qualifying on UCL)? It is a question that has been mentioned here several times and no-one from Moyes' supporters has come with a good answer yet.

Well, I can't speak for anyone else but my take on this is as follows:

If Moyes goes for the kind of targets that have been mentioned so far I'm not that worried about letting him spend 100m. Top class players will be of use to whomever takes over for him should he fail. It won't be a King Kenny situation where the club ends up pissing away money on dross.

On a personal note, if Moyes all of a sudden takes an interest in mediocre players and insists on laying millions of pounds on the table for 'em - King Kenny style - I won't remain in his camp for a second further. That goes without saying.

And finally, the experiment needs to bear fruit sooner rather than later. If he gets money to spend, gets in top class players, and fails to improve our performances radically come next season - I won't support him anymore. That too goes without saying.

So he's smug because he as bruised a few armchair managers egos. The Rebuilding is a long term thing starting with the summer. And i feel it will be a lot more than a couple of midfielders and a replacement for Evra in this up coming window.

But it's the assumption that fans don't know this that annoys people. Many accept there will be a large rebuilding process, but after this season many just don't think Moyes is good enough to be given that task.

Strange but I don't recall talk of a major rebuilding last summer - Fergie left a solid base and Moyes was the stability candidate, the man who could work on a budget. Now, after 8 months of the vast majority of our players going backwards under a coaching team who have never managed at this level, apparently we need to spend 200 million to get the runaway winners of last season back to fourth next year. I admire the tenacity of he Moyes apologists but at some point maybe you have to go with the most obvious explanation - we appointed a manager whose methods don't work at the top end of the table.

If the guy you employed have fecked things horrendously up, far more than you'd ever imagine when giving him the job, the solution shouldn't be to simply chuck a few more things into his office that he could conceivably destroy.

They actually rejected the idea of hiring Mourinho because he can't operate "without a budget of 100-150m".

Ah how things change so quickly.

He's rebuilding from aging and players who do not fit into his philosophy as well as those average players.
