Moyes So Far!

Yeah. It's funny that people generally in life doesn't like an arrogant person. But as our manager (and players), we'd like the one who's showing arrogancy and confidence in himself. I can't explain it.

Because he'd be our cnut... Sir Alex was well respected but not well liked at all...

I don't think we learned anything new tonight regarding Moyes. He deserves a night without criticism though, we're in the quarter finals, he delivered.

Add to that that he has big plans for the future, but he stressed that he needs time to do what he wants to do. Whether it's him getting his excuses in or that he actually has a plan is up for debate. If he's plan is to buy 8 of the biggest European talents around(without CL football) to replace the players heading out, he's in for quite the surprise.

What would be wrong with him planning on buying quality in the summer in some areas (midfield) and depth in others (defense)? And why do people assume that this is the only answer he has?

Recent topics discussed by Moyes? Finding a new centre-back partnership to replace Vidic and Ferdinand - believes that we may possess the replacements in the squad already. Making sure that we are more solid, and improving our creativity.

It's also been well established in the press that he has overhauled our scouting system and I believe he made changes to our youth setup earlier in the season (could be wrong?).

I'm actually wondering if there are some people displeased with the result  Wouldn't surprise me

Nah, even the opposition supporters seem happy we won, though for slightly different reasons.

There's going to be plenty of bad times ahead I fear, best to just enjoy tonight for what it is.

Moyes ends United - Liverpol rivalry, next step world peace.

All the Pool fans I know are delighted with tonight, they all think it'll buy Moyes some time and we'd go out next round anyway.

And a chance for us to be really hockeyed over two legs. Everyone is happy tonight I guess.

Feck it though, we'll deal with that when it comes.

I suppose they may start getting nervous if we made the SF, be careful what you wish for and all that...

So if that's what we're doing, I presume he doesn't bear any responsibility for the Liverpool game, as it was just more of the same?

He deserves credit for tonight, even if you hate everything about him and want him gone. Anything else is just churlish.

I got the same texts too. Let's face it as it is. RvP just saved his ass and got him another season atleast.

I'm absolutely delighted with the result, but still can't shake the feeling that next december/january I'll look back and feel that this might have been a huge mistake. I won't change my opinion about him until the team acutally improves not only one result against a sub par team.

Just when you think there is a good chance we might see him off, the players all of a sudden decide to play again.

Why did you single out that part of my post? I said he delivered tonight and deserves a night without criticism.

The one thing I noticed in his interview is how composed and confident he's become.
Come on Moyesie, prove me and other doubters wrong.

What do you think this is a game of FIFA? He doesn't literally control the players.

It's his job to get us playing well and creating chances. How many chances did we create?

The game was actually very even and they had as many chances as us (which wasn't many.) We scored 3 because we have two very good strikers, one of whom scored two set pieces.

Good result. Enjoyable game in parts (which tbf, is mostly what I'm concerned with) but no corners turned or great revelations made about David Moyes the manager. Sometimes we are going to win games. We do actually have some quite good players and are often playing teams much worse than us.

Sorry if that's negative, but it's how I see it. I was actually far more positive after the West Brom game, where we played some good stuff for about 7 minutes. This was a fairly enjoyable, but mostly muscle memory victory that I don't think says anything about Moyes. What are the bits we can point to that show his guiding hand in victory? Playing Robin Van Persie?

Because it's the part I found most interesting. It's one of the rare occasions that we've seen him get the side up for a big game in that way. I'd say that was relatively new and worthy of praise.

I don't think we learned anything new regarding Moyes tonight, we didn't see a new side to him. I'd echo Mockney's sentiment above. We're through and Moyes delivered tonight, but he hasn't turned into an imaginative and creative manager over night.

I somehow doubt that one win against those Greek giants will have saved his ass, maybe if we did chelsea the CL.

I still think the club is just waiting to activate some kind of non-CL qualification clause.

Glad for Moyes tonight....

I imagine at the minute he could do with a bit of respite and a good nights sleep......

sleep well sweet prince - West Ham in 3 days

It's a good reason to have not played him to be fair.
Not really! When a player can contribute, he plays, not play someone who's younger but not contributing. Giggs was instrumental tonight towards our goals and eventual progression. I will play him all day and night if he continues to deliver like that or more. The difference between an average manager and a great manager is to be able to deploy his staff efficiently or not.

Glad for Moyes tonight. It's made me positive, but not necessarily positive about Moyes. I thought we'd be fine with him for a while, then realism set in again.
enjoy the result, move on.

This is how I feel too, enjoy the result and Moyes still has a small chance of redeeming himself by chelseaing the CL.

I rated our chances of winning the CL about the same as Iran winning the WC before tonight, now our chances have improved to maybe Japan winning the WC level...

While on the other end of the scale, the pro-Moyes brigade now believe he'll steer us to a decade of Champions League dominance.
I really don't see many members of the pro Moyes brigade

Not sure if you could find more than 2 or 3 members who would complain if he got the bullet.

There are plenty who are just hoping beyond hope that while he remains things improve.

It was probably first time this season he had some luck with the ball and missed chances.

Absolutely.

Of course there's nothing wrong with wanting to buy top talent per se, but his results with the talent he's already got at his disposal has been absolutely dismal. Hogdson-esque. Does he think he can just buy the Kroos', Vidals and Gundogans of the world without competition?

We've been slowly declining all season, and when Bayern, Real or Barca come knocking - I think we all know which teams the top players are likely to choose. Of course, a few players will certainly be available, quite a few decent ones too I'd suppose, but he's talking like he can just waltz out to the market and build his own team of Galacticos without even showing anyone even a ghost of managerial ability at this level.

If his plan is to buy himself to be ready to challenge again, I think he's deluded and sorely mistaken. He needs to show something on the fecking pitch, and we've gotten worse and worse with every week. A decent game here and there against relegation fodder and European minnows doesn't change much.

As you can tell, I'm not a Moyes fan.

Sorry but, how does 'we have a long term plan' and 'lots to do' equate to 'we can just buy all the top players in the world and then we will be ok'?

 This word need to get into the dictionary.

No, it just feels that with today he proved something, that players actually want to play for him and United. I mean we can talk about good games all we want but for the first time since Arsenal I feel that this team would really play for him and could be decent again.

You know, ditching Moyes is hard, because he still has SAF and his legendary stubborness as his biggest backer. If he lost today, I think even SAF would've admitted it was a mistake and not protect him anymore. Now probably some board members have more faith in him again. Getting rid of Moyes in his first year needed an act of incompentence like him and the players showed so far, but in his biggest game by far the team had trademark Man Utd comeback.

I definitely think that this was a Phyrric victory.

We can't really speak too much on his long term plans other than what he's been saying, and in January he professed that 'Mata is only the first of many'. He's obviously looking to get in top, top players, as shown last summer with Fabregas, but what I'm saying is that I doubt he can just pick and choose - especially after this season. IMO he was a bit lucky with Mata being completely frozen out and this being a World Cup year. Moyes can't pay 40 million and double/triple everyones wages forever.

He has long term plans, he needs time, he'll try to get it right, tough job, blah blah blah... I mean, that's fine, but show some fecking progress where it fecking matters then. It's been an absolute shambles.

That does seem to be only plan Moyes has.

Based on what? He's not just buying players for their name, but he's scouting them extensively and making sure they fit his 'plans'. He's overhauled out scouting system in general, and has been constantly talking about the areas he wishes to improve our game (though right now they basically equate to every area).

I don't see it working out for him anymore. But I don't doubt that he/United do have a plan more than just 'sign big names!' and I definitely don't doubt his work ethic, dedication or how seriously he is taking his position ('did he think he could just walk in here' comment from earlier)

See again all you have done is show that the side of management he has so far shown an interest in developing at United is buying players and generally nearly all the players we have been linked in come with the caveat of £30m+. He hasn't really shown anything else in terms of motivating the players or any tactical aptitude which is the bread and butter of management. So far he is playing catch up and a lot of that is down to himself despite his strong work ethic.
