The possession stats were marginal, we had more attempts on target, including hitting the post, and great if they had a few more square passes in their own half then us then so be it.
It was a fairly close game, but only really because of the result in the first leg. I'm not seeing this as a new dawn or anything stupid, it's just nice to enjoy a win and a clean sheet after that debacle on Sunday. I appreciate that the 'enjoy the moment' mantra is pretty lame, but hell we needed it. That is a pretty brutal looking quarter final line-up though...

I can't see him going till we're out of Europe now, and probably not till the end of the season. It's weird not being at the end of March yet and there being absolutely no pressure on us any more.

Great come back or whatever, but they're a shit team, it's on par with coming back to win against a relegation candidate like we did with stoke earlier in the season. You expect to win these games by this score line, just not lose the first game.

but for fecks sake mate i'm not even putting it on that kind of level. Of course you expect to win these games. We almost got knocked out but they were not clinical. Still and yet, it was an enjoyable game and for the first 60 or so minutes a solid team performance. I had my gripes from tactical standpoint and other things but it was just nice to see players putting in a lot of effort and for moyes too.
I dont think he should be here much longer but on a human level, I sympathise with him. For once, he can have a good night's sleep. Reality will settle in soon but considering how shite we've been i'm trying to enjoy what little bits of quality and good football we see

True. I'm delighted we finally had a good night where we had an important win, not just a win against west brom or crystal palace that doesn't really do anything. I'm just saying people shouldn't get too carried away. We're in the quarter finals and a lot depends on who we draw. Whatever happens my opinion on the manager is the same, and he should still go, but yeah I'm happy for him. You could tell how happy he was at the second goal.
This, I've been critizing him all year round, but tonite, I feel genuinely feel happy for him, must have been a good nite sleep for him
i dont think anyone is getting carried away. football is a funny game though. i didnt expect that performance although i was hoping for one but the moments this game gives you is really really special. pretty soon my head will come to roost and tell me how much i'm overreacting but i was over the moon when RVP struck the third. just feels good to enjoy a moment like this. because we got west ham and city coming up and who knows where we'll be by then
I have to be honest, I didn't bother waking up for it in the first half after seeing the lineup ( the match was at 3am here). Then got up in the second half to check the scores when I needed to go to the toilet. Ended up watching the second half, but I honestly didn't have any emotions when rvp scored. Ended up watching that crappy last 20 minutes as well.

The problem with last night is we should be delighted that we won, which we all are, however it has us all worried that the Manchester United board are that stupid that one victory against a very average side at home and suddenly Moyes gets his extra year to put things right. That couldn't be true though, that victory was a blip among failures and I assume and hope the board recognise that. Unless we go on to win the CL of course....

You have to look at things in perspective. The team hasn't done well all season and went into the tie 2 goals down from the first leg. It was a great win for a team not at its best and struggling at the moment. Last night was a moment to savour in an otherwise dull season. We have no entitlement to be the best team in the world at all times. Good times and bad times go hand in hand. If anything this period makes me appreciate more what we were able to achieve under Sir Alex.
I would seriously question anyone's motive to follow a team if they felt they had to lower their bar in order to enjoy the win last night.

We only won the league comfortably because the others were so poor. Do you honestly think that players go on performing at the same level for ever? Far more experienced and qualified people than you or I - and probably anyone on here - have recognised that Moyes was handed a squad that had given all it had to give and now needed major surgery. That will happen in the Summer. If there's no improvement in both performances and results by December I'll join those calling for Moyes to go, but not until then.

There's no excuse for us being 7th. You'd have had a point if we were 3rd or 4th, but 7th is absolutely abysmal and Moyes has to take the blame for it more than anyone else.

I think what rednotdead is trying to say is that our squad wasn't as good as people though. That along with a switch in manager has led to our current position. As the new manager gets used to the ropes, we will be better off.

I had been saying that for years. However even with these squad weaknesses we shouldn't be at 7th place.

Yes he was.No doubt it's what he wanted ,but i don't think he left the club as he really wanted it.

I believe his retirement came around quicker than he thought. As a result I agree that I don't think he left the club exactly the way he wanted. However, I still feel he left the club in a good place, league winners with good mix of youth and experience, add to that a very promising youth team. The squad is nowhere near as bad as some are making out, It's a better squad than Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs, Everton and possibly Chelsea, City being the only exception.
