Moyes So Far!

What the feck are you talking about? They've just won their domestic league. In March.

They also qualified from their group ahead of Benfica (who've just schooled Spurs at White Hart Lane last week) and just behind PSG, a team who many rank as the 3rd/4th best team in Europe at present.

Cut the fúcking bullshit. Tonight was a marvellous result. To know you need to win 3-0 in order to progress and then going ahead and achieving it is no mean feat.

Give the man some due.

What so now the players lose games but the manager wins them? I thought the old adage was the other way round. That is Moyes and his lemmings for you though - different rules apply.

I thought that three individual performances were crucial tonight. Rooney, Van Persie and DDG. If Moyes motivated them to those great performances behind the scenes then fair play to him but it was not much to do with the tactics. Giggs's role made a difference as we were finally playing the ball through the middle of midfield. Moyes can't take much credit for that though as the press have been telling him to do it all week. If we keep playing with daring and passion for the rest of the season whilst picking up results then of course I would want Moyes to stay.

I will remain open minded on it but I am sceptical.

I hope the fact that we had to get 3 goals today opened Moyes' eyes to the fact that we're allowed to go for more than 1 goal per game.
I feel it's not up to him. We did that plenty of times over the years with Fergie. He changed our mentality into some sort of old school seria A type of shite - sit back, protect lead, do not press. Hope for counter. Players don't know any different and quickly revert to that under the least bit of pressure.

Moyes has a lot of work to do to bring us into the 21st century.

Apart from his 'Well, we didn't play well at Olympiakos - although, it could have gone different, chance to get one back, deflected first' then I'm happy with this post match interview - for once.

Easier after a win of course, but nevertheless it's something.

Good ol' Moyesy a bit defensive in his interview there. I'd like to think he's not as safe as he thinks he is...

"This time around everything has been so harrowing for United lately it has largely been overlooked that their opponents have played in England 11 times and lost on each occasion, scoring only three goals in the process and conceding 34."

Yeah. Tonight was a decent result. We shouldn't have been in the position where we needed to beat them 3 nil though. They're not Barcelona. It shows how far we have fallen that beating Olympiakos over 2 legs is "marvellous." Pretending that they're anything other than whipping boys is bullshit in itself.

Moyes, when asked whether this was a huge result replies something like "No, people might be saying this is a turning point in my career but it's not, the club know what they've got here"

More like it, I don't think he even mean't to show a bit of arrogance, he probably just said it not meaning anything by it, but I'll take it.

Assuming he mean't that his position has never been under threat because the club know what he can do.

What did he say?

Good result - fans deserved it after poor results
Not getting excited over the result, still have 'lots to do'
Need to back the result up, and not expect it to be some sort of 'turning point'.
Club knows what they have with him, he doesn't feel the result is a turning point in his career.
Praises the players - especially Giggs.
Says we need to look to the new Giggs and that's why he hasn't seen much football - but we needed him tonight.

No idea what Bojan's problem was.. Only hiccup was where he seemed to make excuses for the first result unnecessarily (although conceding we played poor) - not a big deal at all.

That's a stupid static as it won't even be remotely the same team across those 11 games.

They were about the same standard as the teams who we struggled against in the Europa league on balance

Oh, right.

Because they lost 4-0 in England twenty years ago, United should be hocking four goals past them tonight too?

:wenger:

Him saying he has a plan and knows what to do. Tougher job than he thought. Really Davey? Did you think you'd walk in and that would be it. I'm interested to know about this plan he keeps going on about.

I'm trying to make the point that we should not have been in that situation in the first place. Beating Olympiakos is the absolute minimum that should be expected, and its only "marvellous" in your opinion because we put ourselves in a stupid situation in the first place and had to dig ourselves out of it

They were pretty crap, certainly nothing close to Bilbao and I'd take them everytime over Ajax.

What? Did he even say that? I only remember him saying that there is still lots to do, can't be done immediately etc. but in the context there was little wrong with anything he said - unless I missed it.

He said he expected to be at the club for a long time to come. Can imagine that made a few people cringe.

People might be unhappy with it. But there's nothing wrong with him saying it - and everything right with him saying it. You wouldn't want him hoping he keeps his job now would you or 'will try to do my best'.

What was the formation tonight? Looked more like 451 / 433 than 4411 / 4231 with Rooney almost playing in areas the most advanced CM of a three occupies (not unlike Iniesta's area) and Giggs playing the Xavi role with Carrick as the anchor.

I've always thought the 451 / 433 is the way forward with Carrick as an anchor and Rooney the furthest forward central midfielder until we can actually sign the midfielders needed for other formations.

Looked to me as though Rooney was closer to the central midfielders than usual.

Can't quote it from memory, but nothing out of the ordinary and nothing you wouldn't expect from any other manager. He was pleased with the performance, and praised Giggs in particular.

Thats the thing... He did not single out Giggsy to praised until he was asked specifically. And then when he's asked why Giggs wasn't used more regularly he gave his usual kind of grin and said, Giggs can't play forever so he's looking for a young giggs or something like that.[/quote]

PSG thumped them 4-1 (in Greece) to be fair. And their league is like the SPL.

Add to that that he has big plans for the future, but he stressed that he needs time to do what he wants to do. Whether it's him getting his excuses in or that he actually has a plan is up for debate. If he's plan is to buy 8 of the biggest European talents around(without CL football) to replace the players heading out, he's in for quite the surprise.

I agree with you, good interview.

Might've said the politically correct things but still don't like his interviews.

How about instead of saying "We'll try to win" "Need luck to win" and "I'll keep the job" "

He says "I'll try to keep the job" and "Need luck to keep the job"

Which is closer to reality in fairness.

It's a good reason to have not played him to be fair.

Still huge question marks but got the win.

Still have no idea what direction he wants to take team in when it comes to style.

Don't think it will make a difference to his future anyway. Decision will be made at one point before start of next season

Yeah. It's funny that people generally in life doesn't like an arrogant person. But as our manager (and players), we'd like the one who's showing arrogancy and confidence in himself. I can't explain it.
