Moyes So Far!

Fergie ruled the dressing room, and the entire club, with his personality. Anderson said it best when he said that United would lose 60% (or whatever it was) when he left, and that's what happened.

Only because we appointed a manager with the personality of Gollum to replace him, do you think Mourinho will have us in 7th?

It's not a job application, it's a statement of fact.

What's the point of this fact when it comes to the discussion? My keyboard is a much faster way to type out sentences than a mouse/on-screen keyboard combination. It is a fact. It means nothing.

Is it some sort of suggestion that we shouldn't judge him because we are not as good at managing a football club as him?

I'm swaying towards the same, false positives now could see him get another year or two which would be damaging to the club. I honestly don't care if we beat Newcastle, we'll finish 7th anyway.

9th....Southampton are three points behind us and we have to play them along with Newcastle

Also, keep him on to sign players?
He's known to be a very thorough scouter and will already have extensive dossiers on players. If someone new comes in just before the World Cup, we'll be starting from square one again. Actually, we'll still be looking at square one away in the distance.

7th or 10th or even 17th makes no difference, the earlier we're rid of him the better.

The highlight of this season will be his sacking and that's it.

Yet people think he could win the Champions League and should stay if we beat Olympiakos. There shouldn't even be an IF when it comes to beating Olympiakos at United, for that alone he should get the boot.

Liverpool are still more marketable than Chelsea, wouldnt you say?
Chelsea are much bigger around the world than you'd think. Granted they're only popular amongst newer fans who don't really care about football yet, but I reckon that at least 50% of the Africans I've met have supported them. There's huge potential for growth in there.

That's like saying we're not allowed to complain to restaurants about crappy food because the chef cooks better than we do. No one should ever read a Michelin guide as I'm sure the writers are not amazing chefs themselves.

He's known to be a very thorough scouter and will already have extensive dossiers on players. If someone knew comes in just before the World Cup, we'll be starting from square one again. Actually, we'll still be looking at square one away in the distance.
Afterall that extensive research, he signed a midfielder who's been with him for years whose best position is AM to play DM for us, and a number 10 for a club record fee to play as a winger.

Where's he going to play Kroos if he somehow gets him? Up front?

Moyes is still a very good manager and he still knows more about football than anyone on this forum. The problem is that he's lost the dressing room and can't motivate them, which was always going to be nearly unavoidable for anyone who followed Fergie.

But he clearly knows less about football than most of the other managers he's losing to every week, which we're judging him every week based on.

I doubt the Glazers will want another stop-start Summer transfer window like the one in 2013 so, for the sake of player acquisitions, Moyes will be kept on so he can strengthen the squad with the players he's already extensively scouted. If things are still bad around Christmas, he'll get sacked. But I doubt it will be any earlier.

What? How? If we're talking Baines, then may be, but if we're talking Kroos, then no chance.

In fact our concern about player acquisitions should be one of the main reasons why we should not keep him beyond this season. Who would want to come to play under Moyes?!

I dunno... Liverpool represents an older brand. Old supporters.

Chelski seems to be a more vibrant brand, judging by their sponsors. Samsung versus Standard Chartered Bank?

Win the CL?

More likely Iran win the World Cup this year than Moyes-led United winning the CL.

  • Club denies the Giggs rumours.
  • The club's leading sponsors and Avram Glazer attended the Liverpool match.
  • The limp surrender to Liverpool was described as “awful” by senior figures at United yesterday. Official line was that the board’s backing for Moyes had not changed but his position has weakened considerably after 7 defeats in 14 matches.
  • No “extraordinary discussions” over Moyes’s future have taken place between the Glazers and Ed Woodward, the United executive vice-chairman, who are in daily contact, but there is shock at the extent of the team’s collapse since the turn of the year.
  • United’s annual partner conference on Saturday had been attended by all the club’s principal sponsors, unfortunate timing given that executives attended the Liverpool game the next day.

No it's not. It's a reminder that the chef who's just made your meal knows how to cook. Put that strawman away.

Afterall that extensive research, he signed a midfielder who's been with him for years whose best position is AM to play DM for us, and a number 10 for a club record fee to play as a winger.

The research started late because he was still managing Everton. Anyone who comes in at the end of the season will similarly have to contend with a standing start... not to mention a World Cup to dance around.

No one says Moyes can't manage, just horribly out of depth at United's level.

He was named back in May and Everton's season finished in May, anyway, what's the excuse for how he's used Mata so far?

Thanks.

No surprise the club has denied the Giggs rumours, its not like they'd admit there are problems behind the scenes. To my eyes, the body language of Giggs shows what he thinks.

Glad they have finally taken stock of how rubbish we have been though. Cant believe they're not looking at Moyes' position though. What evidence can anyone point to for hope that Moyes may turn this situation around?

But he clearly knows less about football than most of the other managers he's losing to every week, which we're judging him every week based on.
It's not clear at all. He was actually doing better than most of those managers last season when he had an inferior squad.

And because he's a Chelsea fan.

You're basing this on things he's said AFTER going back to Chelsea?

Let's see, what's more likely:

Jose: Chelsea is the only job I really wanted in England

or

Jose: I really wanted the United job, but will make do with Chelsea since Sir Alex choose Gollum

Bullshit. A good tough manager wouldn't lose the dressing room.

I doubt the Glazers will want another stop-start Summer transfer window like the one in 2013 so, for the sake of player acquisitions, Moyes will be kept on so he can strengthen the squad with the players he's already extensively scouted. Yeah, because every player dreams to play for David fecking Moyes.

The chef knows how to cook, but does he cook better than the chef next door?

To my eyes, the body language of Giggs shows what he thinks.
That to me is seeing what you want to see. Giggs is clearly pissed off, but why wouldnt he be? That is hardly evidence of discord between him and Moyes.

Not saying there is no discord between the two, just saying we have no way of knowing. Giggs looking pissed off while we are losing at home to Liverpool is exactly what youd expect, he'd look the same if SAF was still in charge.

And because he's a Chelsea fan.

He's a Jose fan which is ok in my books as long as he can get the team to play properly. He guarantees success -- a prerequisite in this oligarch/oil shiekh world that we live in. (My fear is that we land up in the wilderness like the Scousers.)

Moyes is getting absolutely destroyed by world media today. I do feel sorry for the guy. Our board should grow a pair of balls. The next two games will determine the future of Moyes. The board either need to publicly come out and back him, and say he is our man, he is not going anywhere. Or they need to sack Moyes and get someone in with some credibility. Either way, this needs to be done asap to stop the media bashing Moyes is getting.

It's not clear at all. He was actually doing better than most of those managers last season when he had an inferior squad.

Deary me, if being shafted left right center by the likes of Olympiakos, Sunderland, Fulham, Swansea, Southampton, Everton, Chelsea, City, and the rest is not a clear indication, and he's doing a better than most last season?

Seriously???? For the love of god....

So was Ranieri at Chelsea. But he was good at scouting and buying players, and it was his purchases that laid the groundwork for Mourinho after him. Whether or not that happens with Moyes can't be inferred from his team's performances, necessarily. Moyes still knows how to scout a player.

Mata's played well for the most part.

He's known to be a very thorough scouter and will already have extensive dossiers on players. If someone new comes in just before the World Cup, we'll be starting from square one again. Actually, we'll still be looking at square one away in the distance.

The potential for losing time in scouting players may cause short-term disruption but surely it fades into insignificance compared to the fact that the man in charge has failed miserably and has shown himself totally out of his depth (and by now we are beyond the stage where we qualify such statements). In hindsight, he probably should have been fired after those cup defeats in January to allow a caretaker manager a fighting chance of salvaging something from the season. As it stands, we have got even worse and we may not even finish 7th. The odd decent result against minnows such as West Brom, or, in the next 7 days, West Ham or even Olympiakos should not affect that analysis. He will not be a success here and even achieving respectable results seems beyond him as he is so overwhelmed by the huge step up from Everton.

That's a nice story.

Any backing he receives will be interpreted as the 'Dreaded vote of confidence' anyway.

Also, beating Olympiakos or West Ham aren't exactly season defining moments...

Giggs is supposedly on the coaching staff. How often does it actually look like that during games? Giggs seems totally isolated from Moyes, Round...even Phil Neville. You never see him offering input, you don't even see him sitting close to the other coaches. Lets not pretend that its only against Liverpool that Giggs has been at arms length from Moyes.

Mata's played well for the most part.
Mata has been a shadow of his Chelsea player of the year self so far at United.

Also, are you now saying it's all Sir Alex's fault that Moyes is struggling?

Brian Clough lost Leeds.

We lost out on plenty of players under SAF. So far, Rooney, RVP and Mata have all been willing to make that commitment when they could have chosen the alternative.
For 300k... Mata needed a move to a big club after being frozen out by Mourinho...

I think he'll be gone by Christmas, but the Glazers won't want to throw away the baby (his scouting work so far) with the bathwater (him).

I can't believe people are still defending Moyes, at least defend him in a slightly believable manner. To think that he's actually very good at this point of time is beggar's belief . It feels like William Hung suddenly thinks he's Pavarotti

I'm not sure if Dante's serious, but i guess there's no changing him if he still thinks William Hung is Pavarotti

He was just as much of a shadow under the man you wanted instead of Moyes.

Clue: Rearrange the letters in "Mourinoh "

That's another disaster waiting to happen, let him sign players who the next manager may not want? Or sell Kagawa and somehow get Klopp, can you imagine how ridiculous that would be?
