Moyes So Far!

Setting up a team to be strong defensively and play on the counter which is what we did at Everton is easy though. He had the type of players he needed for that but at a bigger club you need to have good tactical knowledge and be able to adapt your methods to get the best out of your team. Look at Liverpool, Rodgers has tweaked it to allow Suarez and Sturridge to play well and so far this season Moyes has done nothing of the sort.
Absolutely, but my point is we aren't even set up strong defensively, the massive gaps in the centre would never have happened under Moyes at Everton. The pessimist in me thought that at worst under Moyes we'd have a tremendously workmanlike side which was very hard to beat but which struggled to break sides down due to him never having to deal with teams just coming to defend at Everton. However, what we now have is a side which is in theory full of flair, with Mata playing wide in a free role, that struggles to create chances due to a lack of movement, cohesion and attacking shape, which is also very indisciplined defensively with Mata and Januzaj offering very little and Rooney/RVP both playing high up the pitch. He's failing in ways I didn't think he would, and it certainly isn't in the way his detractors said, he's being anything but negative, we are exceptionally open. Fellaini doesn't even sit, he frequently went forward today leaving Carrick completely on his own.

Think he has to go.. If you cant score goals with RVP-ROONEY-MATA-Januzaj on the pitch.. something is really wrong with the tactics..

In the NFL coaches whose team just got smoked often say they need to watch the game film to see how the team lost. The idea behind this is that there's some technical errors responsible for the poor performance-maybe a guy missed an assignment or ran the wrong way on a play-whatever.

I bring this up because I don't think today's installment of our near-weekly debacle comes down to technical or tactical issues. To me it's more fundamental-that the coach has no coherent vision for the team. The specifics where's and why fors just result from an underlying problem of a lack of confidence in whatever system they're being asked to play.

I wonder if there's any truth to the rumours that he has fallen out with Giggs?

6 year contract. I still can't get my head around that.

If he was a valuable or sought after asset, then fair enough tie him down for as long as possible. This was David Moyes of all people though.

I still can't believe we gave a 6 year contract to an unproven manager that has never even come close to win a top trophy. The fee we need to pay in order to sack him is ridiculous unless he resigns. The most positive thing I can think of happening to our club by the end of this season is Moyes resigning.

There will be clauses built in. It would be (even more) idiotic if there wasn't.

Even if he won the Treble he wasn't going to be poached by anyone. The sole reason it was 6 years was a message to the media. The only reason.

I'd sack him now....

Our tactics are pish and it's obvious the man can't get the best or close to it from world class players

Give him another 100 million and it will be good money after bad....

It's just not happening

Bielsa is still unemployed, just saying. Get him as caretaker and see how he does.

Bielsa had a really poor last season with Atletico.

If we are going to replace Moyes, it has to be a talented young manager who has already made a mark or an experienced manager with a proven track record at all levels.

That for me, leaves us with Van Gaal, Hiddink, Klopp, Simeone, etc.

If we feck up the next manager, the long term impact could be really bad. At the moment, our situation is very much redeemable.

I agree, but what Kill 'em all implied was to bring in Bielsa as a caretaker until the summer when we get a new manager.

Elaborate...As I've found it odd how Giggs has been keeping quiet and his distance
Just rumours, mainly on Twitter, but I'm like you, Giggs is almost like the forgotten man at the moment. I'm certain he's lost the dressing room and there's a good chance Giggs would be on the side of the players. Like I said though, it's just rumours.

Preseason has been uninspiring, results don't matter but performances do and so far they all look a bit clueless, I can kind of understand it as most of these players are used to one way of training and playing an having a new manager is a complete foreign concept. This is where I would have thought keeping some of the back room staff would have helped but respect to Moyes for doing things his own way.

In saying all of that nothing can be judged yet. I get the feeling the media are just waiting for it all to go tits up which isn't nice but to be expected.

The community shield is a tricky one. I feel if we win we won't get any credit it was to be expected but if we lose or have a really poor performance the media and a few on here will have a field day.

I'm not even going to discuss transfers because it pisses me off how the summer is panning out. Needless to say if we end up with two Everton players I'll be very disappointed in our scouting network.

Just browsing through the first few pages of this thread. Remarkable, the above was originally posted in August last year..

All available via fanzines. Im only saying it in here because some have put it out on twitter so will spread quickly.

If true, then Moyes is a dead man walking....Falling out with Ryan Giggs of all people at Manchester United is the ultimate no no

I no, but it's becoming a bit more evident now I think.

Absolutely.

His time is up. Wouldn't surprise me if contract has performance related clauses i.e. Minimum showing in league and CL. Lose on Wednesday and he's out. If not, as soon as top 4 mathematically impossible

I agree, I think he's a dead man walking anyway, especially when we lose on Wednesday night.

I bloody hope they have, if he doesn't have it in his contract then someone on the board deserves to get sacked alongside Moyes.

Giggs and Neville are out tonight having dinner....I'd love to hear that conversation

Did you see the look on Fergies face on MotD tonight. It was a mixture of incredulity, pain, disdain and disgust. I note that Joel Glazer was sat with him. Might be something in the Twitter rumors that an emergency board meeting is being held tomorrow and that some members want Moyes sacked.

Yep I posted that awhile ago. Didn't expect things to get this bad, looking back it's easy to forget what we thought would truly be achievable this season. I could see us not winning a trophy. But to not even be in the running for top 4 in March is ridiculous .

Fingers crossed.

Was Joel really there? Please to god let this be true.
