Moyes So Far!

He's not a winner and the players know that. I doubt there's much respect there from a footballing viewpoint. That is what I reckon the biggest problem is, and you cannot change the impressions players have of you that easily. They were probably as stunned as the rest of us that he got the job and brought his mid-table staff with him.

Had Mourinho walked through the door in the summer every player would have been falling over themselves trying to impress him as he is such a legendary manager and someone you want to retire having played under. I can't see them falling over themselves to catch Moyes' eye. They were probably just like "meh". Martinez hardly has a glittering CV either but he is such a cool, nice guy who speaks so well that I could see Everton players really respecting him and wanting to play for him and do well, he looks a great man manager with his gentleman approach.

Moyes comes across as very cold and hard and when you aren't a proven winner I don't think that washes with top players who have a cabinet full of medals. I honestly think 90% of being a success in management comes down to whether players want to play for you or not. And initial impressions are very important in that. If they don't fancy you straight away then it's pretty hard to change that.

More or less.

Someone with DM's credentials, or lack of them, was always going to have a credibility problem with United's superstars. Rio Ferdinand's jockstrap has won more trophies than David Moyes. It's obvious he hasn't succeeded in clearing that first hurdle. The players don't believe in him.

Truth is, he might have been a potential great, but, with his background as a mid table Premiership manager, he'd still face an uphill task to win the respect of the players. It's strange that nobody took that into account before his appointment. We needed a big man to take over from SAF. Dave was always too small.

He has to go, he just absolutely has to go, before he completely ruins the club. I have absolutely zero faith that he will turn this around, ever. He's out of his depth, and completely and utterly lost. I'm past the point of even feeling sorry for him now.

His comments in his presser today were mind blowing. We've just watched the team put in over 80 crosses, or whatever ridiculous number it was, and he has the cheek, the fecking cheek, to come out and say we have other ways of playing. And that we don't just cross the ball. He's become a parody of himself, and is turning the club into a joke.

Dave was always too small.

I don't know if anyone knew if that was true at the point of appointment or is true even now. He is struggling and for fecks sake, 7th is never good enough for someone who took over a championship winning team, but I'm not sure if he will never be good enough.

Go back to January 1990....Fergie was under ferocious pressure. I remember before the weekend of the Forest game, being slagged about having a new manager on Monday. If you'd said then, that Liverpool were on the verge of winning their last title for a quarter of a century+ and United would knock them off their perch, you'd have been locked up.

I wasn't over the moon about Moyes, but I wouldn't have been over the moon about Mourinho for different reasons. Both had their plusses and minuses. I might be sitting on the fence here, but I'd like to see him given more time. I said months ago, that the players would have to buy into his spiel and I don't think they have. Rio tweeting shit should have been strung up. Evra barely a shadow of himself. The guys have won league title upon league title. Fergie asked the fans to support the new manager.....did he ask the players? They should have fought like demons and shown Moyes how winners win. Maybe Moyes isn't up to it. Maybe he's not a winner, but these players are and they fecking let us down.

I think that might change very soon

When you see the way the went after AVB, twice, for example he has had a really easy time of it. I think if the media did highlight the failings more then it might put more pressure on the club to get rid.

I've wondered this. I remember the game against Leverkusen at OT when Valencia scored and on MUTV they interviewed Moyes after the game and were waxing lyrical about Valencia and the fantastic wing play and the fact that it's part of Manchester United's DNA to play with flying wingers etc. I almost wonder if the 4-4-2 / winger tradition is a burden that he's trying to uphold. I personally think he'd have more joy if he moved on from both. It'll be madness to carry on doing the same thing over and over and expect different results. It's not working.
I posted the above earlier before the game and those Moyes quotes about crossing being in our DNA proves that he's trying to uphold these traditions but to the fecking extreme. Any normal person though, when something isn't working, would try to change things up. But not Moyes. He just had us do it more than we've ever done it since data was first collected.

From his programme notes today..Discuss

Christ! He's clueless.

Moyes shouldn't be getting a penny to spend in the summer until he shows between now and the end of the season that he can get these current players playing a better brand of football.

Half a bottle of wine later ndnd I weqnqt him out. I can't take this. He's an airhead of epic propttiorn . Oh god i need more wine.

There's no denying some players have under performed and Moyes has been unlucky with injuries and some results, but ultimately tactics and good management can overcome alot of issues and so far Moyes has failed in every aspect. If we're just going by talent alone, we have a very good squad, certainly better than Liverpools. The difference is in the manager. Rodgers doesn't have a team full of world class players, yet he utilizes tactics and formations that complements nearly everyone in his entire squad and they are a much better team than we are. We utilize tactics that benefit our worst player the last 2 seasons and Fellaini and we do this at the expense of Van Persie, Rooney, Mata, Januzaj and horribly expose Evra who's been having troubles for the last 3 years.

We can talk about giving him another window to sort this out, but he's the one that needs sorting out first. We can sign Vidal or Busquets in the summer and it wouldn't make that big a difference. If he's insistant on playing with 2 wide men, when we have midfielders who need protecting, he'll be more inclined to do so if we have actual good ones and the parade of crosses will continue, but unfortunately most teams won't allow us to put in as many crosses as Fulham allowed us today.

A manager needs 2-3 years to transform a team into his own image but with Moyes he has undelivered so far, he hasn't come into an ideal situation but this hasn't been good enough, these players are winners and there is only two types of managers who could have come in and done well, a winner or a man with a clear philosophy a dedication to playing good football. Players enjoy playing good football, Moyes does neither.

Pellegrini and Martinez have come in and have Everton and City playing entertaining football and they are winning games. When we play I see a team that lacks ideas in the final 3rd I see players who lack confidence in their abilities, players who rush are feeling the pressure, I see a clueless manager on the sidelines. With the quality we have the buck must stop with the manager.

Tactically I feel with the players we have Rooney, Van Perise and Mata can't play together. The rest of the team doesn't give them the platform to do this. All 3 are having to play roles which don't get the best out of their abilities. I saw Van Perise wide right at a time today. Moyes is having a laugh he doesn't now what he is doing. We are awful going forward and despite the misleading stats Fulham created the clearest chances of the game.

Does anyone trust him to grown into the job? To recruit the right players and have the team playing better football next season?

I keep telling myself I only have ten more months to put up with him, it doesn't help.
Would we have any hope that we would replace Moyes with the right man anyway? Who would be the person responsible for picking him? The Glazers? Woodward? Fergie again?

Moyes:

"I think if you are going to look at the stats and pick out the number of crosses, you need to look at the number of passes,"

"I don't think we just went out and crossed the ball.

"And a lot of people would say that one of the big things about Manchester United is that they do play with width, it's in their genes here."

Christ! He's clueless.

The worst part in his interview and also in previews interviews:

"how we didn't win this game, comfortabley I have no idea"

Other interviews he kept repeating this aswell, I have no idea.

Seriously Dave, you have no idea, isn't it actually your task to figure it out and have an idea. An idea of how to improve, what issues to adress. Seriously how can you improve if you have no idea about what went wrong and what has been going wrong for so many games (its not the first time this has happend to us).

In all honesty I really do believe he hasn't a clue about why it isn't working. Which probably is the foremost reason he should get the sack. He is basically saying, he is clueless, I can already see him thinking it through.

I've put on all my best players and said to them, be real scottish like I'am and do your freaking best, like you did for that other scottish scottsman from last year, ya remember him grey bloke with glasses, goes by the name of Ferguson.

Ofcourse it didn't work as we had to go into HT being one down. As a coach its my job to adress it, I did everything I could on that department, like the other scottsman said, I brought my hairdryer (my missus is probably going to be missing it, must not forget to put it back where I found it). Some of the players asked me what to do different, like a real scottsman I said be more scottish like I'am. Somebody said, but shouldn't we be doing anything else but crossing it, seems like they are defending those pretty easily. Nonsense I said, less crossing is never the answer, and that I never here that they are easy to defend on AGAIN ! You all remember Réné, ya know the not so scottish dutchman from last year, who is now coaching the other team, I've fired him for uttering those exact same words, NEVER DOUBT THE CROSS ! As punishment you shall each be putting in a 1000 more crosses on the next training, and I don't want to hear any awwws Rooney, or I make it 2000 more, while singing the scottish anthem and nothing else but Hagish on the menu for a week !

They did what I asked, they put in more crosses and even while 2-1 infront they went about their crossing, it was the most crossiest game we have played all season, all crossing records have been broken by them, I couldn't have asked anything more, you can't be more scottish than this unless you did in a kilt and were playing the bagpipe (note for next season: look into having kilts as new outfits and having bagpipes at OT).

I have absolutley no idea what went wrong, we'll probably have to up the crossing even more in our game and I should train the lads to be more scottish. I shall be bringing more sheep, a flag of scotland and a picture of a real scottsman (ME!) for the next training ! (note: don't say this to the camera, or I'll get slapped on me behind again by Ferguson and Charlton).

Seeing as the interview thread got closed (why? I thought we were encouraged to start new threads when something new happens rather than keep updating the big thread? It's not like it's simply an opinion on an existing matter) .... this was my response to a post there.

The worst part in this interview and also in previews interviews:

"how we didn't win this game, comfortabley I have no idea"

.

That's the line that struck me. Is that just him blurting something out or does he mean it?

What's his favourite newspaper puzzle? CROSS words.

Seriously is that even a joke? I mean, it's funny because it had the word "cross" in it. And that's the joke. Brilliant.
