Moyes So Far!

Such clauses would make a complete mockery of the initial contract? Moyes' body language would suggest to me he's under no pressure, there's noway there's any such clauses in his contract. Noway.
No, because it was only PR anyway. Why would we give David Moyes, who would have taken the job anyway, a six year contract without any get out clause? If he gets sacked he'll get a three year payout or something, like Pardew at Newcastle when he signed his seven year deal.

I do kind of worry that's reacting to all this adversity by getting the team to play like an exaggerated parody of a team managed by his predecessor. Even the whole throwing on all your strikers stuff is a very Fergie thing to do. It's also different to his more measured approach to going behind in the opening games of the season.

It's such an extreme scenario taking over from a living legend but I think we'd be better off if Moyes put a bit more faith in his own instincts.

Yep. It's probably what gets to me the most.

People say to me (and I read here) that Moyes is a 'small time manager' - trying to get draws, 1-0 wins and as a result teams aren't afraid to come and have a go at us, with the 'fear factor' now gone. I completely understand where they're coming from too.

The thing is, Everton under Moyes were extremely hard to beat. There wasn't some 'fear factor' surrounding Everton though, it was just a tough place to go and a tough team to face. They were organized, they knew how to seal out a game, they didn't often concede first.

What's changed? If it's simply that we're currently taking the role of a wounded animal, then surely that would suggest we will shake off this mentality, and fear factor or not start to get results again.

It's clear for sure, the most obvious example was when he kept Van Persie on because, 'what would people have said if I brought him off.'

He is now saying the players/team are "mentally soft" ? Goodbye David, you have just lost the dressing room.

do you really think that?
I think he's at that very worrying stage where it's so bad, he's laughing through sheer worry.
I think he has the mannerisms of a very under pressure man.

He gave a very quick "we'll do our best" to the question of top 4, when until about 2 weeks ago he still reckoned we were in the title hunt!

I've seen enough at this point to confirm my fears when he was hired on. He has shown zero ability to adjust his archaic tactics or game plan when things aren't going our way, which sadly has been almost every game this season. I refuse to believe that this team isn't good enough for him and that he will get better results once he gets his type of players in, tactically I shutter to think what type of player that is.

I know he will get another year at the club and a massive amount of money to invest but he has given me zero confidence that he is worth the investment. At least Bebe can rest knowing he is now SAF's second worse signing.

On being asked did he expect this season to be as bad as it is:
"Probably not, no. Today was as bad as it gets. How we didn't win, I have no idea. It's goals that count. You can have as much possession as you like."

On conceading the equaliser:
"Even when it was 2-1 and they put five minutes up, Fulham never came up the pitch, they left us with the ball. So it was nearly a case of just playing out time and we gave away a diabolical second goal. If we had one failing it was that we should have gone to win 3-1. You could use maybe mental softness that we didn't see the job out and get the job done. I would agree with that."

On being asked if our only plan was to cross it:
"It was never one way. "If you're just going to look at the stats and think about the crosses you need to think about the number of passes and I don't think we just went out and crossed the ball. Some people might say that one of the things that Manchester United do is play with width and cross the ball, that's in the genes here."
 Calling his team mentally soft, and then he thinks we didn't go out just to cross the ball. What is wrong with this guy. He is so up his own arse it's ridiculous. So fecking deluded and always blaming bad luck or whatever else he can think of. He's turning us into a laughing stock. Shows his character how he was so quick to throw Everton under the bus when he first arrived here as well even they did so much for him these last 10 years. The sooner we're rid of him, the better. He's a pussy as well, putting all the blame on the players pretty much and not admitting he's getting shit wrong.

I think this is bang on, this is not how David Moyes' sides have played in the past. In fact, in recent months this idea that he's a negative manager has pretty much been blown out of the water, he's actually been exceptionally positive, perhaps even too positive because at times we completely lose our shape. Parody is a very good description of it, today was a total parody of how many felt we played under Ferguson, but as we saw today, there was far more nuance to it.

Top 4 seems nigh impossibru now.

Random lad at Porto forum talking about Porto's manager said:
Este senhor e o Moyes juntos nao dao 1

"This mister and Moyes don't add up to one [manager]"

I've always defended that United and Porto share some parallels, but I wouldn't expect us to be in the same tune in a moment like this.

Lost my shit at the bold part

In fairness, I can see why he'd think our players are a bit lacking mentally based on this season. We've let our heads drop a few times when we've conceded early, made basic errors due to poor concentration and dropped a lot of points late on in games.

Obviously confidence is a massive part of the problem and Moyes isn't exactly filling anyone with it..

I wonder if Moyes may decide to step down if he realises the job is too much.Similar to Holloway at Palace.I don't want us to sack a manager, I really don't but it may come to that.Sir Alex is the key figure in any potential sacking scenario. How much influence does he still have or how much say? He is just one of a group of directors. He may be outnumbered!

i guess that whatever he says some ppl will always find a way in which they twist it so they can ridicule him...

You can only laugh at that. Everyone of those players (except his signings and Januzaj) have more league titles than Moyes has away wins against a top 4 team. United had a reputation for doing more comebacks than any other team while Moyes has a reputation for bottling every big game.

The irony!

I think the team are carrying out his instructions. I think the team are trying. I think today was as good as it gets in terms of them trusting their manager - they had possession, the played the percentage crossing game he appears to adore.

I think every game that passes the team are getting more anxious and less confident. I think it's only a matter of time before the players do start ignoring him. I think that may be a good thing, or at least no worse than what we're seeing now.

I wish he'd resign, the wrinkly faced tw@t

 For the players I mean. Any lingering belief in him will surely evaporate with that.

Haha yeah I know. Was just having a laugh :D

I think bit by bit, the players have lost it with him...Look at the Vidic scenario. Present with Moyes at his first presser, presenting him with the CS and giving him a moment in the sun....To where he is now leaving.

"We just go into the next game and take the teams on and challenge them. We've got a good team and there will be very few teams desperate to play Manchester United," he said.
 Ffs. Just go into the next game and challenge the opposition, that's Moyes' goal. Not enjoy yourselves, not go to win as many as possible, not climb up the table or play good stuff, but challenge the opposition. It's like when Newcastle was coming and he aimed to make it hard for them. He's a clown.

So instead of talking about how our tactics are terrible and dont suit our players... How about we entertain the idea that Moyes is a genius and has the right tactics but not the right players. Who do we need to recruit and how do we set up to make the most of our current pattern of play?

He is now saying the players/team are "mentally soft" ? Goodbye David, you have just lost the dressing room.
What a thing to say about a team who has won more than he can ever dream of, that takes mental toughness David. This coming from someone who messed up everytime his former club had any chance of winning something.

I wonder if we run the risk of player power undermining Ferguson and going straight to the owner's to see to it Moyes is sacked, à la Chelsea?

He also said this today...

I really don't understand how he can say stuff like this with a straight face. We just go on and hope to challenge the next team? So negative its unreal. It's hard to believe he's actually a premier league manager with how he's done with us this season. You'd think he's trying his hardest to screw us over because he's gotten almost everything wrong.

What's Hernandez been saying?

If he's saying the team is mentally soft because they couldn't see the game out then it really looks like he has lost the dressing room. Criticizing them like that in public, as true as it may be, can't be a good idea.

It was always going to be tough for him as he was coming into a team of champions so unless he was able to convince the players of his ideas and get instant results they were always going to start doubting him. Players will never blame themselves especially when things were so different just one year earlier
