Moyes So Far!

When you think about it, a club who haven't had a new manager in 25 years getting a manager who hasn't taken on a new club in a decade is a recipe for disaster

As is appointing a manager who has no big club experience. This job is too big for him. We needed an elite manager, someone who has successfully managed some of the biggest clubs in the world. Give you a clue, he's the same age as Moyes but he's Portuguese and was available in the summer.

Brilliant quote from Rene! Says it all really...

Rene Meulensteen: "United's approach was straightforward. Get it wide, get it in the box. It can be easy to defend against."

I think most of us can anticipate what will happen as more the stalwarts of the Fergie era leave the club. Interesting this coming from Hernandez given how quiet and good natured he's been throughout his time here even when he hasn't been starting. Just shows how disaffected some players are. But then Rio's tweet midweek should've shown that.
I'm dreading the parting shots in the summer. Although I think most will respect Sir Alex too much to openly bad mouth Moyes, we'll see though...

this is genuinely the first time ive seen talk of him actually being sacked, the amount of people turning on him now is huge.

he is f*cked if we lose on Wednesday.

I was generally patient with Moyes when Rooney, van Persie, Carrick and Jones were out. Now, all of our best players are back and match-fit, but the results have been atrocious.

He needs to go. There must be dozens of managers out there who could do much better with this squad.

I hope that he does the honorable thing and resigns tomorrow.

The whole ironic thing about is, back then certain United fans were critical of the way we supposedly treated him many saying we didn't give him a chance and we sacked him too soon. i think now people realise how infuriating it is to not only have a manager out of his depth, but one that seemingly has no ambition either.
Only those who try to look better than others said and thought that. The logical ones said that he was deservedly sacked. It was clear from the first moment that Hodgson can end only in failure.

He sounds delighted that after all these years he's found a way to get Everton ahead of United.
He's laughing ffs. This is even worse then Hodgson.
Complete and utter disaster. I can't believe the club have let it go on so long already.

This post pretty much sums up what is wrong with 90% of the people on here.

Can we have a separate forum for people who like to stick to facts rather than indulge their own sad-masochistic fantasies?

Isn't that standing by Moyes and wanting him to shape the team in his own image?

I agree with the first part though, Moyes won't ever get us relegated. He isn't a bad manager. He isn't a great one though. And that is the problem.

At least there are starting to be some reports of it, as unreliable as the source is  Has to start somewhere right?

That bazzalini thread about Carrick being lucky should have been aimed at Moyes instead.

First, he somehow gets chosen as manager of Manchester United.

Then for some reason, he's handed a 6 year contract.

And finally, he seemingly faces no pressure despite most people thinking he's nowhere near good enough as his team plunges into freefall whilst playing dire football.

This should maybe go in a new thread, but let's be optimistic and say we finish 6th this season, what will the expectations be next season? Will a top four challenge be enough? Would finishing fourth be a success?
Given the state we're in, yes, a top 4 place would be a success next season. That's how far we've fallen. It's one step at a time from here. A top four finish next season and a title challenge the season after that. And that's being very, very optimistic.

It's relegation form. And honestly, he needs to be slapped with a fish after behaving like a complete pisspot in the post match interview. So chauvinistic it is for us to think that Manchester United are superior to other "merry go round" clubs. Have you not seen enough? The man has stamped his mark on the club and it has taken us to hell in a handbasket.

Agreed. The longer it goes on, the harder it will be to come back from it and the longer it will take.
Thanks for giving Januzaj a new contract, keeping Rooney and signing Mata (which lets be honest, wouldn't have happened if we had a competent manager and were in a good position), but kindly, feck off out of the club now.

Agreed. The longer it goes on, the harder it will be to come back from it and the longer it will take.

The Glazers will be super worried about handing him too much in transfer budget.

I bet there's some low level scouting of potential successors already going on.

I have been amazed at his treatment in the media. He has been spared of really any criticism. No-one has ever asked him the question of whether his job is untenable with this current form. No-one has asked him why the tactics are so archaic.

Instead it's 'can't believe you didn't win, David.'

The media give no impression of what the average United fan is thinking.

It's cause he's their british media darling. Just like Hodgson was. They won't put any pressure on him because they want him to do well and he's a nice guy.
Compare that to AVB who was crucified in the media both at Chelsea and Spurs even though he was still in the top 4 with Chelsea

This is actually getting frustrating. The lack of media scrutiny, it's not something anyone likes to see attached to their club but it'd be massively warranted with Moyes. He's almost under no pressure.

2 wins in the last 9 games. 6 losses and 1 draw. Absolutely awful.

I say we go for Roberto Di Matteo as caretaker. He will fluke his way to a CL win and there will be much rejoicing.

Just imagine how he'd been treated at another club. Honestly I always thought the next manager after SAF would've huge pressure but there is zero for Moyes. He hasn't shown anything so far that makes me think about him being a great manager. Apart from introducing Januzaj.

I hate unpleasant haranguing of managers, and am completely against it. Some of the stuff AVB got was really out of order and left a stain on the journalistic profession.

There is a balance though. Questions about style of play are particularly warranted.

It makes you wonder whether the club are briefing journos just telling them that Moyes will not be sacked so there's no point going after him.

You realise you quoted half a sentence?
Out of context doesn't even cut it.
I said with the way we play (Wimbledon anyone) and our form. Our 2014 form is relegation form. That is a fact.

What doesnt make sense is that even when Chelsea have had "no manager" they've done better that this.

Fair points. In hindsight, Liverpool have got their sackings spot on recently.

It really is amazing.

I'd genuinely believe that. They know Moyes won't be sacked, so haven't bothered scrutinizing him. Also, some of the media probably still fear Ferguson, his shadow still looms large over the club.

It's just been an ugly season really hasn't it. There haven't been any banker games, and we've absolutely scuffed out some wins against the kind of teams we'd have smashed in the past.

Today would have been a 4 or 5-0 job under Fergie.

it's plain criminal to get so little out of this squad.
All the revisionist sh!t about it beinga weak squad is utter gash.

I can see that as being the case which is a bit depressing.

If we lose to the Gooners, then he must be sacked immediately. Bring back SAF till the end of the season, then hire somebody with a proven track record in winning trophies. Looking at our staff on the bench today was worrying, PNev, Round and Moyes all look lost.
ANd when you look at Mike Phelan as guest analysing after the game, you really miss the backroom staff and SAF.

How could we have gone from the famous "come back king" who scored the winner in injury time to losing 2 points in final seconds to a bottom team?!!! When Sir Alex asked us to stand behind the new manager, it was 10 months ago. Things have changed since Moyes took over! He really looks clueless and it is not because we have bad/average players.
