Moyes So Far!

As hard as it is to see them sacking him, there is a tough run of games coming up after Fulham:

Arsenal (A)
Crystal Palace (A)
Olympiakos (A)
West Brom (A)
Liverpool (H)
Olympiakos (H)
West Ham (A)
City (H)

No easy games there. Could be coming to a head soon.

I think we will play better. That said, I've learned to not be surprised at what happens against the teams we should be battering.

Don't really see what's wrong with the OP. The run we have coming up is quite tough for a manager of Moyes's calibre... losses to Arsenal, Liverpool, City and Olympiakos away are expected. We may go through at home against Olympiakos and win 1 out of 3 against Palace, West Brom, West Ham away (Upton Park away after playing Olympiakos, a carbon copy of yesterday coming up), but I think it could be curtains for Moyes after that run. 10-12 points is what we can realistically expect, and a decent enough chance to go through against the Greeks.

I dont see how Moyes could have been picked ahead of managers like Mourinho, Pep, etc if there was a discussion. The talk was always about Sir Alex picking his successor and he did. Remember Gill saying CL experience would be a big factor? Moyes has none.

I'm not sure who was involved in the discussion, but I would have thought Gill was there? The report did say, at the very least, Mourinho was considered and it was Charlton who poo-poo'ed it.

I'll see if I can find it on-line.

wrong, he's got a 6 year contract. They arent going to sack him anytime soon. Especially since they've just let him spend 60+ million in 6 months.
Get used to it

Actually the more he spends the easier it is to sack the manager. We then become a player's (power) club.

Having said that, I cant see Moyes if we some some improvements next season... which isnt too difficult at this point.

At the rate this is going the next match against City will be epic. He will be gone after that match.

Here is a question...

What will happen first...

A) David Moyes wins Manager of the Month

B) David Moyes sacked as Manager of Manchester United

Fulham are terrible at the moment, lose to them really could be the last straw. But with SAFs comments, don't think Moyes will be sacked even after that.

We'll beat Fulham, which will calm a few people, but will change nothing in the grand scheme of things. That's the way it's been all season.

He already won manager of month for December when we had 2 home losses vs Everton and Newcastle.

Compared to David Moyes at MUFC Roy Hodgson at LFC was Pep Guordiola.

A. He nearly won it in December (?). He's capable of winning a few games in a row, it's just he implodes afterwards.

I don't know about Mourinho, but our official announcement of Moyes said "Manchester United Board unanimously approves the recommendation of Sir Alex Ferguson".

Found this on ESPN, though:

Sir Bobby Charlton's concerns regarding Jose Mourinho's conduct ensured the Real Madrid coach was never a serious contender to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson as Manchester United manager, ESPN understands.

While United legend Charlton is an admirer of Mourinho's coaching abilities, his keenness to ensure the positive public image of United is maintained meant Mourinho was never in the running for the Old Trafford hot-seat, which looks set to be filled by Everton boss David Moyes imminently.

Charlton said in the Guardian "a United manager wouldn't do that" after Mourinho gouged the eye of the then Barcelona assistant coach Tito Vilanova in a heated Supercopa tie in 2011 and his subsequent comments summed up his feelings on the coach apparently bound for a return to Chelsea.

"He is a good manager, but he pontificates too much for my liking," Charlton said of Mourinho in an interview back in December. "Mourinho is a really good coach but that's as far as I would go really."

Yeah, I don't see him getting that sack before the middle of May. But I don't think the length of his contract or the money he has spent hinders his sacking. Surely there are stipulations in that famous 6 year contract that allows us to cut our losses without paying him an eight figure compensation. Also, I doubt he'd have been allowed to sign anyone in January that the board would have been unsure of. I'm pretty sure most potential managers would have room for Juan Mata in their squad, bar Jose.

I think our ambition to get Ronaldo poo-poo'ed it tbh. Mourinho's relation ship with Ronaldo had broke down massively and if he had become our manager, then our chances of getting Ronaldo go out the window. Not that it makes a difference anyway, because Ronaldo used us for a nice payday.

The problem is fergie and charlton won't sack him after coming out with their stability breeds success bullshit. The plug should be pulled by the glazers.

Yeah if there's one thing we know about Fergie he's always shirked the hard decisions.

You know it's all gotten a bit silly when you have people suggesting decisions about what happens on the field should be taken by the Glazers.

Charlton is talking a small amount of bollocks though because Fergie loves Jose and vice versa.

Moyes is a fecking coward who thinks throwing a striker on means we'll get goals. It doesn't. He has no faith in us to able to break down the likes of Stoke without resorting to hoofball.

I hope he signs all the players we're supposedly looking at in the summer and then resigns with immediate effect. I hate his shit wrinkly face

Good find. It was along those lines.

It will be a sad day. But the Moyes brigade will be ecstatic. Strange bunch.
As fans we support the club more than any individual. If it means Moyes is sacked to achieve success I don't think any fan would have an issue. However, a lot of fans are not fickle. It's obvious United are not performing, and decision makers we'll be taking note. They'll also know more than anyone on here what the best course of action will be for the future of the club. We'll just have to wait and see over the course of time what transpires.

Bad luck and all that, but there's lots and lots of things we're doing wrong today.

- Wing-play, crosses and hoofball are the only styles Stoke can defend. So naturally it's exactly what we're doing.
- Ashley Young is only good at crossing from an angle. So naturally we have him on the corners and Rooney on the angled free-kicks from the right.
- Stoke are awful at defending on the break. So naturally we have all 11 men back for corners.
- We're struggling to maintain possession in the middle. So naturally when one of our two decent midfielders gets moved, the one on the bench stays there and we put a forward there in his stead.
Pretty much this. All the high balls by literally everyone in the team upset me. It just doesn't fit our game, especially not against Stoke. We look so clueless it hurts

He's not good enough for United but he will be here for at least another season, there's no doubt about that

All I want is for the fans to remain classy in the stadium and not start booing etc.

But I have no qualms with anyone who doesn't think Moyes is up to the task. Because I agree with that notion.

The way i see is this. Thw club sanctioned Matas transfer because he is a top player. No matter whos in charge Mata is going to play.
I dont think the Glazer will allow another Fellaini deal though. Im certain that should Moyes got sacked Fellaini would be one of the first casualities of the new manager.

I don't actually think it was a simple case of Fergie picking Moyes. I believe there was consultation and debate. It has been reported Bobby Charlton does not like Mourinho and that essentially finished his chances. I think Fergie made his case for Moyes and he was persuasive enough. After all, he had made the Gimps mountains of cash, so how could he be wrong?

I still hope he isn't. Hope is all I have now...

Well, the way it's been presented is that Moyes went over to SAF's house and was told he was going to be his successor. I'm sure Moyes then had to present his ideas to the board but I'd be super interested to know what those ideas were.
