Moyes So Far!

I'd like to think if I was in his position that I'd go to as many football games world wide as he does. A genuine football man. Here's hoping he starts showing some tactical nous and improves us on the pitch and stops us playing this only cross into the box style. The last few games he seems to be trying, so even though I'm not a fan of his there's a bit of hope he might come good yet. There's no taking away from the fact that he's had a torrid 6 months though, that only started getting good the last few days (since we lost/won to Sunderland).

From my post you deduced that the only variable into me thinking he'll get t right is him being a workaholic. Jesus, the anti-Moyes brigade do love jumping down the throat of any positive post with stupid assumptions. It's pretty tiresome.

Well that is how you presented it.

I only have respect for the guy. Has had to fight off the media as well as pressure from fans a like so far this season, and he's dealt with it well. Performances/results may not be reflecting that, but with time all that will come.

He'll get it right. We're building for next season. I think the first half of the season was a massive learning curve for him.

Of course you didn't, because that was the only reason you gave.

Because that's what we were talking about at the time. Should I preface every positive post listin all his attributes to avoid smart arsed comments and pedantic arguments from people motivated only by their dislike for our manager.

He's a muppet like the rest of us. I know he signed Fellaini, who I still think will come good for us, but he also aimed at high caliber players. I fully expect us to sign two world class players in the Summer.

Moyes will be the man for us.

Ahh the "positive post" of course. Thou holy enlightener of thread morale.

You don't like people picking up on your inherent positivity. Perhaps you could extend others the same courtesy when you micro-analyse every thread attempting to pick up on posts that might possibly be considered remotely....pessimistic?

Moyes will be the man for us.

Even if he isn't he'll have left much better squad for the next guy.

All these pictures of Moyes and our scouts at different grounds are a bit of a PR move too though, aren't they? I'm sure they could avoid attention if they wanted to but it looks good if we're seen to be busy.

Fergie was seen at stadiums. It just seems Moyes seems to go on more trips. It's no surprise. Moyes is a lot younger than Fergie and is able to fly about without a health scare. It may be a PR stunt, but I think it's Moyes genuinely having a gander at players.

The way he was talking there we will have some world class players arriving in the summer.

You've accused me of that a few times but you've yet to show one example of me doing anything other than reacting to clearly ridiculous or insulting posts.

Re: being seen at stadiums - to me it suggests that Moyes wants to succeed or fail through his own efforts rather than entirely relying on the variable efforts & abilities of scouts, time-servers etc etc.

He looks so happy with the Mata signing, you can tell he's buzzing. Good to see after a hard few months in the job. Really like the calibre of player he's after, everything is pointing towards a couple of Mata-esque signings during the summer.

I've never seen a manager with such a blatant disregard for his carbon footprint, sack him!!

Damn what's with everyone being jokers at the moment. It could be the genuine giddiness this signing has given us but I've had some right laughs in the last 24 hours.

He wants an exciting team but I'm really not sure he knows how to encourage that on the training pitch, judging by the turgidness of this campaign. Perhaps he feels he can just add the flair players and it will all fall together.

I just hope this isn't another case of relying on individual brilliance to win us football games. Mata is only going to thrive if the team operates in collective harmony.

Hmm. Maybe I'm just cynical. I know if I was Moyes I'd be thinking very carefully about how I'm perceived, particularly as results haven't been good. If I was going to be at these stadiums anyway I think I'd make sure I was seen. There's no harm in it and it helps give the impression that a lot of work is being done. I'm sure this work would get done anyway but we could probably keep it quiet if we really wanted to. Particularly when it comes to our other scouts.

Is tumescent a substitute for zombie? Fact is there have been people pointing this out since well before Moyes came. Hopefully he intends not just to carry on, but to change.

I've accused you of nothing, but I do feel the need to point out your inherent contradictions.

Buy a dictionary and look up accuse.

It's bullshit. I have no issue at all with people having reservations about the manager. I have issue though with dicks like you and that other tosser who feel the need to drag people into stupid arguments like this.

Not a substitute, just the reality. The zombie analogy was and is bonkers. The football last season wasn't the greatest but it was at least coherent and played with confidence. I've yet to see anything from David Moyes to suggest what he actually stands for, what is his identity, his philosophy?

Any manager of Manchester United has the clout to sign top players, but it's how he plays out the pieces that truly matter. His time at Everton was widely lauded and rightly so, but the question still remains....why didn't they never progress further? Why did they hit a brick wall? Their progression this season has raised legitimate questions about whether he was getting the most out of that team.

That is my issue with Moyes, he hasn't yet proved he can be progressive.....only has he proved he can stabilise. United require progression and signing flair players doesn't simply guarantee that. If the same setup and style exists then Mata won't be a success at Manchester United.

You can play a 4231 where the 3 (or 2 of the 3) are not close to the middle, and you can play a 442 where the widest midfielders are closer to the middle.

They're just generic titles. They are very basic over-simplifications of larger strategies which can vary enormously. As such these titles are not always accurate and are occasionally even misleading.

True. The "2" we apparently field up front don't correspond to the "2" in an old school 4-4-2 at all. The main difference between what has been our default system for a while now and a modern 4-2-3-1 is that we usually field Rooney behind the striker. And he isn't a typical AM of the sort you normally find in that role. Another difference is that our wide players have usually been, well, very wide compared to the more modern style tucked-in wingers. This season, however, this has been mainly true of Valencia. Whoever has featured on the left has not been operating as a traditional winger - Evra has been the main width provider (and crosser) on that side.

Pienaar wasn't really a winger or particularly quick but played he played wide and it worked great with an attacking full back like Baines, I expect he'll see Mata as that type of player in that position but obviously much better.

Indeed - this is what I think too. And I think Mata would work brilliantly in such a set-up.

It's not an argument, but if it was you dragged yourself into it, as you do frequently when you find passages of text that don't adhere to your idea of what is justified on this forum. I've accused you of nothing, I asked you a simple and polite question, whilst pointing out that your cup is full of contradictions.

As for the bolded bit it really depends on what constitutes "reservations" in your mind.

I applaud your efforts but you will eventually work out that you are talking to brick walls.

Are you for fecking real? I dragged myself into it? I made a comment, someone criticised it out of context, then you fecking Wade into it acting Billy big bollocks.

You're a fecking Wum merchant on here and one of the most hated posters in the forum. People genuinely dislike you on a large scale.

I fecking dragged myself into it. fecking irony of that post.

Same thing he did with Donovan - though brief - it was quite successful

Of course they have meaning. 442 and 4231 are very very different formations and require different types of players with different attributes. We for example need a much stronger centre midfield pairing to play 442 whereas in a 4231 you have a bit more forgiveness because the 3 line is closer to the middle. It also effects how the defence go about there jobs particularly the full backs.

The formations aren't different, just a matter of management instruction and how your team plays. Having 2 wingers that tuck in a bit and are goal threats doesn't change the formation, its their style dictating the teams approach in attack. If one of the wingers tucked in and the other a conventional wide man the formations the same, but the way its played changes. Rooney has played an orthodox role behind Van Persie this season and occasionaly well deeper then normal, another tweak in style rather than formation

You're wrong imo.

I don't even know him but I found that hilarious.

In the Telegraph article, it says that Moyes is an admirer of the Bundesliga and is looking there to bring in players. I think it's quite exciting seeing as we've never had a German play for us, and I know many people felt that Fergie didn't look in depth at players from other leagues.
