Moyes So Far!

A question to everyone: is 4th really that different from 2nd? If we end the season without winning a trophy, but secure CL football, will it be at all different from the 10/11 season were we won sweet FA but came second and only lost on GD? I mean winning is winning at the end of the day.
We won the league in 10/11.

I hate articles like that. It's 20:20 hindsight vision at its best. If the media keep picking at everything United do and do not do, the unravelling will happen quicker. If the media had given Moyes a lower base from which to start and spun things in a more positive light, I have no doubt that the internal workings at OT would be better.

Compare that to the positive view on EVERYTHING that Liverpool have done this season since Day1. Liverpool win? Great. Liverpool lose? Performance was good. Liverpool lose 8-0? Well, it wasn't 9-0. Liverpool squad caught raping babies? Good teambuilding exercises by Rodgers. It's ridiculous.

To be fair, the whole "Manchester United Empire Is Crumbling" story was always going to be enormously interesting to the media and everyone interested in football, including United fans. It is naive to think it would be reported any other way. Comparing it to the Liverpool situation is a complete red herring, if we were talking about Liverpool in the early 90s it would be a fair comparison but today? We could get exactly the same results every week and the reporting on the two teams would be completely different and rightly so, we have completely different expectations, Liverpool being shit is hardly news after all. If, heaven forbid, we spend the next two decades being shit on a stick like Liverpool the tone of the coverage of our games will of course change.

In these situations I always remind myself that all the shit we get thrown at us by the media and ABUs is actually a massive compliment, it is respect or jealousy but either way acknowledgement we are the best. Id be more worried when the coverage of us losing 3 games in a row or being dumped out of two cups in a week or whatever wasnt hysterical because it would mean people were no longer surprised by it. And on the other side of it, look at the coverage of Liverpool as patronising instead of encouraging or preferential. Like a baby taking his first steps, "WELL DONE! Oh LOOK at little Micky, he just walked three steps before falling over, WHAT A GOOD BOY, WHAT A CLEVER BOY!" That is the tone I would read it in.

I really do suggest that people saying Moyes was the wrong appointment just sit back and watch for the next year or so. With Rooney, Van Persie, and Mata coming in very soon, I am convinced we will fire back up to 4th. For me with this season of transition 4th is acceptable. I didn't for one minute think that United would win the league this season.

We have a world class squad and the manager is building foundations, building for the future, and this assumption that Manchester United cannot buy world class players with Moyes at the helm has just been abliterated by record signing Mata arriving today. More will come in the summer, and Moyes will finally have more of his own team. Fellaini will no doubt share a ball winning midfielder position with Fletcher, rather than be expected to be the big midfield signing for United. Pressure on Fellaini to deliver will drop now he isn't Moyes' latest signing.

Just give Moyes time! Man United fans are gaining so much respect this season by applauding Moyes and the players off the pitch when they win/lose or draw.

all the names supposedly linked to us and the signing of mata is suggesting moyes is moving towards the right direction. now all he has to do is change the system a bit. the way we are playing football at this moment are totally uninspiring. hopefully someone like mata can rejuvenized our football style as well. and the results should follow then. with rooney and rvp to return 4th place should be achievable.

One thing I'll say about Moyes, he's given the entire 'no value in the market' spiel the two fingers. Good lad.

Yup. Fair play to both him and whoever else at the club that recognised we had to move on with the market.

We've added Januzaj, Fellaini and Mata to a title winning squad. Time to deliver.

Yup, thats the way I look at it. He has been true to his words at the start of the season, by giving everyone a chance and assessing the team for his own eyes. Now it is crunch time and get some results.

Not to play devil's advocate, but now that Moyes has spent £64.5m on two our of our most expensive signings ever, is it now reasonable to say we should be expecting him to get this team playing better and showing us a style of football soon? Or is it still fair to use the 'this is Fergie's squad' line if we don't?

No I think time is certainly running out for him to start delivering results or at least some evidence of improvement. Of course spending such a lot of money should be taken into consideration, in a sense he is under more pressure now but that will ease very quickly as long as we put a run of wins together. The upside of how shit we have been in the last couple of months is that he doesnt have to do much for it to be seen as an improvement, therefore moving in the right direction, therefore less pressure. As Yazz said: the only way is up, baby, for Moyes and me babe.

I would say, once Fellaini is injury free and fit then, yes! But with a fully fit squad, I think we will be a special team.

Brilliant signing from Moyes. COuld be one of our best ever signings tbf.

To all those hating him today and wanking over Mourinho without giving Moyes any credit you should be ashamed of yourself. fecking shower of disgraces to call yourselves supporters of this club.

This. When Rafael, Fellaini, Rooney, Van Persie and Carrick are all fit and forming the backbone of our starting XI, then we can judge properly.

Add Fletcher, Vidic, maybe a new lb and cm? We should be looking good. No excuses.

Tbf saying 'yes lets sign Mata' is hardly a great insight into his transfer accumen. One of the most obvious signings ever.

I'm more impressed with the club not waffling about for once and making a serious bid right off the bat.

A bit early to be saying that but what the hell, nothing wrong with allowing yourself to bask in the excitement.

If he can't get a team with the likes of RvP, Rooney, Mata, Januzaj and Kagawa playing well then he needs to leave. Fantastic boost for him signing Mata. I hope he knows what he's doing.

Agreed, if he fails to get top four with Mata, van Persie and Rooney all fit then he is a poor manager.

Thing is, he/we will of course improve. We can't really get much lower with this squad. He's not going to relegate us. Things will get better when Rooney & RVP come back and Mata starts playing. That isn't really questionable. And I'm sure the counterparts of the knee-jerk "sack him now" camp will come out and gloat that "Ha! See we're great now, we just had to wait you moaning bastards" after about 6 games of decent performances, like last time when a string of expectably winnable games became a "6 game winning streak purple patch!"

The real question is whether he'll be able to push on. To get beyond the top 4 and actually challenge for the title and the Champions League. Whether he's got the tactical nouse in the crunch games to see us through QFs and SFs, or big away ties in the title run in when we're 1-0 down. That's what I have my reservations about. Not whether we'll stop showing relegation form eventually. Because if that doesn't stop, feck sacking him, he needs shooting!

This.

I was expecting a first offer at £20 million. After all we tend to bid less than a club signed someone for when we chase big names e.g. Cesc.

Could you imagine we'd have got Mata and Cesc. Football.Manager.Special.

Why? He "Could be" isn't like a Nostradamus prediction. He's an amazing player and if used properly could write the roadmap for how our football looks in the future.

Not necessarily, not from where we are currently standing. The most important thing is he gets us playing well, with confidence and racking up wins. Maybe Liverpool keep winning as well and we miss out on top 4 but as long as we do our job then Moyes should get credit for that.

Yeah true, I'd still expect us to make up the six points with the players at Moyes' disposal.
