Moyes So Far!

I'm not sure what to read into that. Carrick isn't ruling it out either.

Probably reflects worse on Vidic. Would Fergie have given up? Would he feck.

At this point any sane player or manager has to own up and admit defeat and line up real targets. There's absolutely no chance we are winning the league this season.

Really, please do enlighten us on these players? Matic to Chelsea seemed a done deal. Their asking prices and do actually have a realistic chance of getting them in this window?

Matic has been available since the summer - he wasn't always going to Chelsea. Matuidi (out of contract in summer), Cabaye (£20m), Fernando (out of contract in summer), carvalho (£20m), guarin (£15m) are all available and would improve us substantially.

Edit - not that he's what we need but Draxler is available if we pay the buyout clause. Instead, we won't, watch Rooney hand in another transfer request, then see Bayern snap Draxler up by paying the clause

Moyes is just embarrassing himself and our club by talking this forced non-defeatist nonsense. Is anyone seriously expecting the top three team to completely crumble and United go on an incredible winning streak?
It's insulting, I just wish he'd stop it.

Oh do shut up. It's insulting because he says we can still win the league? OK!

Am I the only one who thinks he has been a tad unlucky with Rooney and van Persie being injured for quite a lot of periods during this season? We have taken 20 out of 24 points this season when both have played.

Nah I agree with you. I think Fergie would be struggling this season too with the injuries albeit doing better than Moyes.

It's insulting because it's just out of this world. You're talking about Chelsea, City and Arsenal, just look at them! Do you seriously believe we can win the league this season, in the shit we're in, with this manager?

No I don't. But people moan at him for being negative then moan at him for saying this. It's annoying. I'm pretty sure he doesn't believe we can win the league but he isn't going to say it.

I'm all for being super positive but I'm also very much against being deluded. And expressing it publicly.

Why? What's wrong in admitting that your goals have changed but you're still aiming at top 4 and a good finish?

It's pretty irrelevant that he says that apart coming across as a bit deluded (which any manager would if they said that).

I'm with Gerald on this

even though you and I know it is very very very unlikely he can't come out and say it

the players have to fight for every point and admitting defeat is the same as giving up in some ways

we will fight to the end

Yeah he can. If he came out and said we're probably out of the title race but we'll do our utmost to finish in the top 4, would have no issues with it and no one should.

It's a lose-lose situation. Him coming out and saying top 4 is what we're aiming for would tell us he understands where we are. But it would also get slated as defeatist and he'd be accused of having mid-table philosophies aiming for 4th instead of still gunning to get as high as possible.

Juve have the worlds best midfield and are trying to sign Guarin from Inter on top of that......We have a midfield that is nowhere near good enough and Moyes is saying he'd prefer to wait till the summer to fix it....It's like he's happy to sacrafice a top 4 finish if it means waiting till the summer to get the right player which is a very dangerous game to play....it's us that should be going insane to land Guarin in January and not Juve

if we have Rooney and RVP fit for a prolonged period we'll finish top 4

Carrick/Fletcher/Fellaini/Cleverley isn't great but I don't think Guarin is going to improve that from what I've read

I know, just consider it ridiculous either way the reaction. Think he would be better off being honest and frank, rather than coming across as delusional. Majority of the time what managers say in the press isn't really a big deal to me, but when results aren't going your way it's better to face up to it I feel.

I'm struggling to understand how he's still in a job.

6 years contract. And who else of quality is capable of stepping in now in the middle of the season.

He should finish the season and we should look for a better option in the Summer. Not a discount one.

Because the club isn't run by a knee jerk, like yourself.....

It wouldn't be kneejerk to sack him right now. Moyes has been calamitous so far and it would be difficult to see him getting trusted with a great deal of money in the summer.

Well yeah, it's easy to make him look daft when you just make stuff up. He's made it quite clear that he'd like to buy players but doesn't think that their clubs will sell and he's not willing to go in on short term fixes.

In what category of those Fellaini and Baines fall then?

well its not rocket science to get what i meants....the whispers are that Moyes would prefer to wait till the summer when a world class midfielder may be available...thats all good and well...but blowing 12 million in Guarin in the meantime could be the difference between a top 4 finish and a 7th place finish even if it meant he was confined to the bench if a bigger name arrived in the summer

Aye - but, you know, it's Moyes' fault that they're injured. He's mismanaged poor Robin horribly. And Rooney - well, the apparent good vibes between the two of them were obviously just a charade instigated by the cruel, yet incompetent, yet devious Scot to make sure Rooney gets overplayed, injured and pissed off just to the extent that he'll definitely sign up with José come summer. Possibly instigated by Fergie, who didn't like Rooney, and not really Moyes either, he just wanted a complete tosser in charge to protect his ego, or legacy - or the Glazers. Or summat.

Sorry about that. Been waiting to vent, as they say.

Carry on everyone. God bless and good night.

It sounds encouraging when he says top players are gagging to come here.

Then you read him saying he's still thinking we can win the league, and you think, oh sh!T, we can't take this at face value.

He doesn't need to say it at all.

He's simply making a further rod for his own back

Just feeding what people want to hear really, and until these supposed big names are actually in a United shirt then it means very little. Digging a hole for himself.

I don't like this everyone back for corners shit he insists on us doing. It clearly doesn't work anyway with the amount of goals we've conceded from corners. He doesn't take risks which is what he's got to do in this job.

Journalists tend to forget to mention, in their reports, the leading questions they directly ask Moyes, thus putting him on the spot. Questions like: "Do you think your job's under threat?", "Do you think you've done well so far?" & of course "Do you think you can win the League?". Funny, that.

Does anyone take anything a football manager says at face value though? Seriously? They say whatever they think it is in the interests of their team to say, and it's only worth listening to it for the theatre of it.

People seem to think he or any other manager or footballer come out with these random comments. They as you say are usually answering a question. The media are always trying to get them off their guard.
