Moyes So Far!

No matter how people try to sugar coat this nothing can make me change how I feel about Moyes time at my club!

Terrible transfer window, old fashion tactics and rubbish motivating his squad.. Looked depleted after the FA debacle, x2 after the CC vs Sunderland and dead and buried after this tutorial of modern football tactics and great team spirit..
Vidic and Rafael showed very well the state of the morale in our squad.. Moyes doesnt have the locker room anymore and I can promiss you that the Glazers wont hand Moyes 100m + for new players if he keeps pulling this shit much longer.. Somebody needs to put Moyes out of his misery, this wont get better anytime soon.. And I dont see Moyes doing anything to change it!..

Wonder what Van Gaal is doing there?

Larsson was just a loan signing, you can't pick those up all the time, the options just aren't there. If we've got priority players which could be signed in the summer, we shouldn't go for lesser options just so we get a new player now.

Point missed. We don't always have to work with long term in mind - which Moyes said was why we would not get a player as a stop gap. Loan or not it was a short term solution. We can surely afford to get some players that can improve us a little who don't have to be the long term solution.

We might have players in mind for the summer and there is little to suggest we will get them. Might be made even more difficult with no CL football to offer. Manager and club also seem insistent to stick with how we have always worked so that means continued value bids and not willing to pay agents. We had a tough time getting this supposed top players that are queuing up to play for us when we had the greatest manager and the back of league titles and CL finals. You think that it is wise to stick to best or nothing?

I think we can do both. Look at the best and still look at short term solutions.

Speaking of short term - we were in for a 29 year old so desperately over the summer. Isn't he a fairly short term solution given he might be at his best for 2-3 years seeing as was being looked at a replacement for a 32 year old.

There's no doubt in my mind that the players have started to turn. Ferdinand's "complaint" about team selections was an indication of what was to come. The Zaha story, the behaviour of Fabio, Vidic and Rafael in recent games and the fact that a lot of our players seem to have stopped caring about how they play tells me that it might be too late or Moyes now, especially considering the status Rio and Vidic have in the squad I think Evra might be a part of that brigade too. He's lost the respect of some very important players if he even had it to begin with, and with every poor performances, more and more are going to follow suit. Doesn't look good at all.

A big part of me is telling me it might be for the best to just call it a day sooner rather than later. It's been a disaster from day one and it looks like it will just keep going in the same direction in the future.

Today's result does not really change much. I expected us to lose and we did.

Our home record in the EPL and our record against the top eight is an absolute joke though continued by another defeat today.

If we don't isolate and cut off the virus, it's going to spread to the rest of the body, and we will then be well and truly fecked.

Moyes has shown us nothing over the last 6 months that suggests hes capable of working at this level. Yes, he didn't have a transfer window to work with, but even so, would anyone honestly say they'd trust him with 200 million pounds? He's clearly not the man for this job.

This.

It's critical that we "fail fast" by isolating and removing the root cause before it causes irreparable long term damage to the club.

The very fact he says we can still win the league, where as Vidic says we haven't a hope, shows the difference in mindset right now between players and manager

Football is largely about momentum. We've never had any this season from that tough start onwards. I'd like him to be given another year but things are going from bad to worse. Old Trafford is the Theatre of Dreams and we love a fairy tale but that's all it is with Moyes. There are better managers out there. Most of us that knew that in the first place. The ride with Moyes could have been fun. It isn't.

So what was Van Gaal doing there ? Has this been discussed elsewhere ?

He spoke at some FWA knob-slobbering dinner honoring Jose Mourinho. He's back for six months and journalists can't keep from drooling over him already.

What is Moyes record against Chelsea away?

He's never beaten a traditional "Big 4" side away in the league. He's won as many games against big clubs away as he's won trophies.

One of them knows what it's like to win the league and be in the title race. The other doesn't. Vidic's judgement on the team's chances is far more valuable than Moyes'.

Wow, that makes him the ideal Manchester United manager.

Moyes is clueless about the things to say to the media, I hope he isn't deluded to the point of truly believing the title can be won, he's trying to keep appearances but in doing so he is portraying himself and the club as jokes.

i am actually at a lost of why are we so bad this season. Yes, some will say this in not Moyes team but he inherited a team of Premier League champions. i cringed when Tim Sherwood who has no managerial experience can come in and settle the ship at Spurs, but our situation seems to get worse and worse. I really want Moyes to succeed but I see that we are always struggling to get our football going this season. Moyes selection policy and tactics are not going to work.

IF....we had taken the lead against Spurs when we came out of the blocks firing, IF we had scored today in the first 15 minutes when we looked very comfortable, we would have gone on to win those games, easy. The reason why we didn't is our best 2 players, who happen to be forwards, are out. Any team in the world would struggle under this conditions.

Well, Rooney did play against Spurs, for starters. There were only a handful of games where neither Rooney nor Van Persie was available and with the squad we have we should be able to cope with the loss of one of them.

There's the fact that we didn't even play very well when we had both or at least one of them available. Other teams also have to deal with injuries; Liverpool didn't have Suárez available for their first six games of the season yet they did well in those games with a much worse squad than ours.

Also, saying that we would have easily won at Stamford Bridge if we had scored early on... come on. We were two up there last season and still needed two red cards and a dodgy offside goal to sneak a win. Rooney and RvP both do miss chances. They are important players, very good players but the problems were evident even when they played. The injury excuse is overplayed: only De Gea, Evra and Valencia played more games than Rooney, for example. Agüero played fewer games for City than Rooney did for us but their goalscoring potential didn't really suffer...

You have to ask the question "would changing managers at this stage make things any worse?". Of course it depends who is available but its hard to see how they could do much worse. I could really see the likes of Gus Hiddink improve us no end.
Been thinking this. If Moyes were canned and Hiddink brought in until the end of the season, I'd fancy our chances of a 4th place finish.

Going down with the ship is one thing, going down with the ship with the wrong man at the helm is another. With each passing game, my faith Moyes has it in him to turn anything around slides further to the negative and by now, I'm not sure I want him to spend a penny of the budget for players, instead leaving the kitty intact for a new man brought in over the summer.

Not winning the league or any trophies this season was never an issue for me as Moyes transitioned in, but looking as completely out of his depth as he does, whilst playing the football he does and having us not even make 4th really should make his position untenable.

I'm sure the majority of us expected a bumpy ride for a while whilst he sorted out a side in his image, but I would love to see a single post from a United supporter with the prescience to even hint that we'd be in 7th position with this many losses under our belt before February.

Sticking with someone who inspires belief he can turn it around or is showing some kind of nous you can pin your hope on would make all of what's happening a hell of a lot more bearable, but Moyes is showing us nothing to suggest he is the man for the job. He has been below average across the board and if the players are losing, or have lost faith in him, I wouldn't be surprised - he's not giving them anything to believe in and certainly not getting the best out of any of them.

From that article, where is Mick Hucknalls right hand?

Obviously not the point of the pic but I'm glad Fletcher is back. Been hearing a lot of good things about his influence on squad (particularly with regards to Januzaj). Leadership is much needed now.

I am amazed that some want Fletcher out, and some have said that. He is a fabulous influence. Another future manager in the making.

Even when we were on top in the early part of the game yesterday it felt pretty obvious it was all part of Chelsea's game plan. They were happy for us to have the ball and feel like we were dictating the game, they probably judged that with the players we had out there they could afford to bide their time and lull us into a false sense of security while they waited for their opportunity to strike. Mourinho completely won the tactical battle. So I take all this business about how well we played in the first half with a pinch of salt. If we had made a load of really good chances that we nearly put away that would be something. But we didnt.

I agree. He needs to go. I think he's lost the dressing room. Shit selections, shit tactics, poor excuses.

So a new manager is going to magic our midfield into something fabulous, make it that Valencia can actually cross a ball. That he is some sort of faith healer who can make Rio fit and 5 years younger, make Rooney, RVP and Nani fit. That Vidic didn't actually get sent off yesterday. He will still have to deal with the same players as he would have no time to replace them.

No, but Im pretty sure we'd actually have a plan in the way we play. Can u honestly tell me even with rooney or rvp in the side, what our style and gameplan has been? Pass it to valencia and cross?

Can't agree with you here mate, we pretty much play like this every match, 15 minutes of dominance on possession hitting around 70%, high, very high pressing and a lot of tackling, retrieving the ball but then we hit the 16th yard and we seem to be clueless unless somebody fecks things up. After those 15 minutes it's us who always sit back and wait for counter and then we're most vunerable for goals. I think I've said it already and it was proven again yesterday.

I was actually watching the match yesterday with my mother and told her around 13th minute mark that we're starting to go into 'phase two' of our play and that when we concede, it's in that shit phase. Two minutes later Eto'o scored. It's so fecking easy to read for the opposition I'm surprised we've got no plan C. I understand that it's hard to press for 90 minutes because even BVB who're known for their pressing give themselves some periods of rest but we're looking about 100 times better when we press high with whole team, we're basically sweeping teams away, home or away. If we ran through our matchday threads we'd see one common demoniator - first 15 minutes we look sharp, good but we're usually not clinical enough and unless we put one or two a team, struggle in next, say, 20-25 minutes untill we're back into phase 1 around 40th minute.

Totally agree with you. We could start calling it the 15 minute pointless press. We seem to do it every game. Mourinho did totally win the tactical battle as they countered us easily. I think that Chelsea were ready for a war of attrition if we sat back and ready to counter if we took the game to them. The latter happened and they won.

I think that Moyes should have gone to stink out the joint personally. He seems to be having an identity crisis at the moment, trying to play the United way but getting it wrong.

Moyes is staying until the end of the season at least so lets get Van Persie and Rooney back and put a run together.

A good manager would have this side sorted optimised in no time at all.

Our squad is far, far better than what Moyes is making it look, even if it isn't PL winning standard, it's more than good enough for 4th place.

Right. My point is though, if you knew what was going to happen (phase one, phase two), dont you think Mourinho might have had an inkling as well? And therefore, dont you think Mourinho might have instructed his players to soak up the early pressure, wait for the lull and then pull the trigger?

I said in another thread that it needed a bit of tinkering in the summer and that wasn't done. I think it is coming home to roost now. The players, if they are downing tools want their arses kicking. If they don't like the manager, OK, but they are short changing the fans who will stick with them through thick and thin.

United have exactly the same points, are in the same position and have the same goal difference as Everton did last season.

for those in the "players are s*it, its the glazers fault" brigade, i have two questions and i would like people to answer them honestly.

1 - if Jose was manager of this club instead of Moyes, do you honestly think we would be in 7th place and 14 points off top?

2 - would david Moyes have been given the Chelsea or City jobs, had Jose/Pellagrini got the United job?

i think we all know the answer to both questions is no. anybody who says otherwise, is as deluded as Moyes and thats as deluded as it gets.

feck me, I'm sure this stat has been posted before (a friend sent it to me, so I have no clue re the accuracy):

Sympathy may be rare for David Moyes, but let's end with some. One has to point out the manager's misfortune over the loss of both Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney. Last season, of the 24 matches that the pair both started in all competitions, United won 19, drew four and lost just one.

This season, Moyes has been without one or both of his striking options for 14 league games out of a possible 22. United have taken just 17 points from these 14 games. Conversely, in the 8 league games in which the two have featured, United have won six and drawn two. That's a difference of 1.3 points per games, or 59 points over a season. Sink or swim, effectively.
