Moyes So Far!

Did he make the right subs though?

Playing Rooney as a central midfielder and then having Kagawa partnering for the last 5 minutes plus stoppage time sounded really weird on Five Live.

I have only listened on Five Live but the changes just sounded like throwing as many attackers on as possible and putting others out of position. Just cause he is bringing on CAF favourites does not mean they are the right changes.

That defeat is a real blow to us. It makes our home record even worse and continues our woeful form against the top half sides. It's something that really is bad reading and difficult to spin any other way.

He's got his hands tied. That poor summer is costing us. Write this season off, and prey we make top 4. We need to start again.

He's been rubbish. He's taken dominant champions team to a clueless bunch of individuals.

Can't blame Moyes for this one. Valencia switched off and Lloris made a few key saves for them, and of course Webb got a few calls wrong.

We had been making progress. Real kick in the nuts today. Was feeling very optimistic before kick off.

Let's see what happens in jan, I am still sure we will finish in top 4

Six year contract or not, if we don't get into the Top Four this season, no one can complain if he goes.

What can you say apart from he's not been good enough. We have dropped far too many points and our general play is horrible. I think even SAF when he mentioned transition and giving the guy time couldn't have imagined us to be this bad.

I couldn't really fault him - changes were good.

His "fault" lies in mistakes made in the summer. This game summed everything up - we play the last 20 mins with our best centre forward playing central midfield.

Laughable.

Agreed, but where the Q was, what did he do wrong this game? U'd agree nothing.

Tactics. We lost to a team with less quality than us at home again, a team that doesn't even have a manager. The same with Everton and Newcastle, Moyes's tactics are shit.

So how would you have done it differently? I'd be interested to know... I assume you're looking deeper than just our starting XI by using the word tactics...

If anything it highlighted the need to let him spend money.

I don't think anyone would disagree with that.

Valencia in the starting line-up is the only one I'd say.

And even that wasn't an awful call, he's been a lot better of late and Young was his only other choice who started the last couple of games..

Do you think his job is just picking a first 11 and then throwing on subs? Match preparation, training, man management, press dealings, transfer dealings. I see a team that lacks confidence and belief. We can analyse each under-performing player in separate threads but the most important person at the club is the manager and he's not had the desired effect

Firstly, no I don't believe that is their sole job, silly Q. However, my question was what did he do wrong in terms of todays game, so match prep, training etc is moot as you or I can't comment as we don't know enough.

In terms of todays game, what did Moyes do wrong? List the points, I'd be interested to know..

Again, ridiculous the ridiculous tactic of sending Valencia back to fullback costs us a goal. Against Everton and today he was pitifully exposed. We have a perfectly competent fullback in Fábio whom Moyes never selects, instead he makes panic substitutions when we are trailing in a game and just sends on the most attack-minded personnel possible when more balance is needed.

At least Moyes identified the need for a left-back in the summer, albeit with failed bids for players. Evra has been absolutely disgraceful. Needs to be dropped and preferably let go at the end of the season. Again, the decision to alienate Fábio is utterly baffling, as Evra must play by default due to lack of options.

Looking at the table makes me feel sick. Moyes has been unlucky so far, however he has to take a lot off the blame. If we don't make the top 4 this season, which I don't think we will then we are fooked.

He still believes in playing Valencia and Smalling despite Valencia having a god awful time making himself look like a pub player and Smalling clearly out of depth as a fullback. How much worse can Fabio be at fullback compared to Smalling? It's like Moyes would rather play with 10 men than to even give him a look in.

Time has come for Glazers and Woodward to step up to the plate and seriously back Moyes this month if we are to salvage something from this season

If Moyes won't start acting in a way to change things on better there may be lack of arguments left to defend him.

Valencia as RB
Kagawa in midfield
Rooney in midfield
Playing Cleverley for 80+ min
Evras position

Just to mention a few...

Well, yes you can blame Moyes for this, since Valencia switching off himself could have been avoided had he been substituted.

Smalling has looked excellent in his last 2 games at RB.

I love it when people forget important stuff like that

Our results against the "top" teams:

27 points on offer, 6 points taken. 21 points dropped.

He's not good enough. We've had half a season now, and every time it looks like we're "getting better" the bubble gets burst when we play a better team and get utterly found out.

Seventh place in the league at the start of the New Year, and we deserve to be there. This has gone on too long to be anomaly now. This is where Moyes takes us. He doesn't have a clue.

The whole incredibly antiquated, predictable and uninventive style of play for a start. We laughed at Rodgers "we won the passing" a while back, but at least he seemed to actually have a plan.

Also a large part of being a manager is managing your players. If he's not getting the best out if them, that's his fault. What do you think a manager is there to do?

Probably. We look way to predictable.

Big game manager he ain't.

He has to take some of the blame for the summer transfer window, our squad is lacking right now and that window was embarrassing. I don't think we'll bring anyone of note in this window either.

The club need to back him now, go get him a top target in this window and do it right fecking now. Some of these players aren't good enough, SAF carried them and we shouldn't expect Moyes to be able to do the same, not in his first season anyway.

I'll admit after those 2 home defeats against Everton and Newcastle I was bang on Moyes back for it, but after this defeat I'm just more behind him. The midfield situation has been a disgrace for a top side for years now, to the point we actually brought a player out of retirement and he became probably our best player, unacceptable. Yes Moyes got Felliani but that was after a summer of absolute incompetence by the money boys, Felliani was a "feck me, we have to get someone!" buy and we all know it.

Other than picking Valencia he picked the right team and he made the right subs.

Our team simply doesn't have enough goals in them at the moment. I don't think its necessarily his fault either.

We can all pick a team and make right subs big fecking deal, what are our tactics? pass the ball to Valencia and cross? and in those last 10 minutes nobody had any idea what they were supposed to be doing everybody was playing out of position with no plan what so ever

He doesn't have a clue how to win a football match as Manchester United manager.

Our tactics from the start were awful, no other teams close to us in the table are as one dimensional as us in their reluctance to attack in any other way than down the right flank, the opposition right back might as well come on to pitch in slippers and pyjamas and have a nap for all the work he will do.

Then his substitutions, pulling Rooney deep was good. Valencia to right back I just will never understand and Young for Cleverley just saw us fail to keep the ball and then the entire time everything STILL went down the right.

I do like him, and I really want him to succeed, but he's not helping himself in the slightest by bringing his 'Football Management in the early 90s' handbook with him.

I can understand your comments but my Q was solely on todays game, in terms of a "Plan", I think it was evidently there to see, Rooney beefed up the midfield dropping deeper and we over-relied on Januzaj who looked a bit tired by the second half IMO... but in regards to the predictable style, we haven't changed a lot from last season....

So many posters on here were asking for smalling to be called off and Valencia to be pushed to RB, in hindsight it cost us a goal, but who's to say in Smallings form at the time, he'd of done any better? I personally still want answers in regards to Fabio.

Would you really say Moyes makes panic subs, or subs at times in the games where it changes and may require a different approach? Whether it works or not..

How much worse can Fabio be? The only evidence we have is that SAF and Moyes now have barely used him, clearly something is up. Disregarding Fabio, who else would you have played at RB then? And instead of Valencia, there was only Young who'd started the last few..

I regret saying this, I really do, but this is completely true.

We're stuck with him sadly. If we spend big in January we may be able to scrap 4th but the last flickers of a title challenge went out today.

Moyes deserves a good transfer window in January...Lets face it we are not going to make the top 4 unless Moyes buys maybe Reus and Koke who we simply are not going to get in january.....I stick to my belief that unless the team is looking outstanding 2 months from now and are not in contention for a top 4 finish....Moyes should 100% get the boot next summer ....I just get the feeling that Moyes is not the man to get us into a top 4 finish this year.....I wouldn't blame Rooney and RVP for wanting out come the summer if Moyes can't get his act together.
