Great starting lineup and good tactics I suppose. Made a good call by taking off RVP who was gonna be red carded. Let's see the next match and how we play now because we've been down this road before (a few improvement in one match and two steps back for the next).

Shades of the Palace game here. Wingers rested. I wouldn't be surprised at all if both of them started against Liverpool. That said, today's team selection was good, and we played some decent football as well.

Nothing changes with that result against a poor West Brom team, I mean yes we may have lost that game under some previous performances but lets see how we do against Liverpool and in the second leg against Olympiacos. I still feel it's a sticking plaster on a gunshot wound when I look at Moyes in our dugout, but the next two games will give a better indication, the players certainly seemed the most confident they have been in a long while.

This football we played is what we should have started to do back in August and tried to develop it. Moyes will have to have the courage to fight his instinctive nature of cautious football.

Fells like a deja vu of the Palace game. One decent game against cannon fodder teams is not something to be proud of. It's the least expected from a United manager. Real test starts next week. Even if he stays it's imperative we get a good tactician as assistant manager. I'm still not happy with the quality of football on display. 11 men defending a corner is not how Man Utd play. Maybe Preston but not us.

A week til that game you'd hope not. He should be playing this team against them and using today as a springboard for them which is exactly what I said before the lineup was announced today.

If he does revert back to that comfort blanket side it'll be a huge huge mistake.
Given the side he picked in Greece, I hope he rests those 3 for the CL return leg.

Granted, but we have been playing so poorly of late that is was actually nice to see the team play some decent football. Small steps at a time guys, gain some confidence and hopefully we can go on a run. Credit where credits due, we played well today.

This is my worry too, or I hope he continues to rest them for the CL return.

I honestly don't see why we should keep him after this season. Too many fans are trying to give him a lot of chances. Yes, today was a good day but we need to look at the bigger picture. We want united to be one of the most elite teams in the world if not the best. I just don't see him out smarting any of the best managers plying their trade in europe. He's nowhere near the top managers like Pep, Mourinho, Klopp, Ancellotti, etc. It has always been a case of one step forward and two steps back regarding. He got everything right for the first time in 6 months. Even if he somehow takes us into the top 4 at the end of the season, I'll be reluctant to give him another year. It'll only delay the inevitable.

Good game for him today though. Made the right decisions, subs made a good impact and the perfect line up.

No we didn't really mate. It just seemed we played well because we've become accustomed to shite football. If we look at the quality of football played across the league - Liverpool, City, Arsenal, Everton, Southampton we're waaaay behind them. Not to mention a couple dozen teams across Europe. It has to be much much better. Man Utd is about playing relentless counter-attacking football, not defending corners with 11 men. That's not how United play and it does my head in.

I beg to differ. We were away from home, very solid, passed it well, controlled the play and restricted them to hardly anything. Also scored two fantastic well worked goals that will give the lads a much needed confidence boost. I feel you are being too harsh man.

Good game for us and him today. Good team, good subs and in the second half (admittedly mostly after we went two up) some nice play.

Raising false hope? We've been here before? For sure - I was convinced after our run of 6 wins in December that we'd get clear of the tension and lack of confidence issues. Then it all fell apart again.

However, one game at a time. I was happy with us against Arsenal. I thought we looked OK against Palace. I'll blank the aberration in Piraeus from my memory for now and say we're rolling again. Let's see where it takes us.

for me we've had 4 good prem games in a row. I'm not saying anything changes, but we've had better premiership consistency since Mata's come in and the injuries have come back. Beating pool and city is a big ask of any team in the world right now, what's important for me is, the team has looked better since Mata's come in and roo/carrick/rvp/felli have got back fit, which is progress.

Yeah, 3 most important games of the season coming up for moyes, but we are moving in the right direction and hopefully we can continue that if the results don't go our way

I really do hope that we turn a corner, but I can't shake the feeling that we'll take three steps back, as we have all season when faced with a challenge. We've been dreadful in the big games and that needs to change vs Liverpool and City now.

We were good vs Arsenal both times, the Liverpool game could have gone either way as could Chelsea at home, we had a really bright first half vs Chelsea away and we hammered Leverkusen away. I don't think the big games have been awful by any stretch given our general form. City away was awful for us but really has been awful for every team bar barcelona

Eh, Munich?

Have you forgotten Mourinho ended their home record?

Much, much better.

Now don't feck up next week or we're back to calling you a useless cnut.

Until I see the lineup for the Liverpool game, I refuse to give him any sort of credit for today's game.

He didn't beat Mourinho today, he put out a good side against relegation fodder and had them play acceptable football. That's the bare minimum, unless we're dropping our standards. Today's not turning a corner. Turning a corner is when we go balls out with our strongest XI against 'Pool, The Greeks AND City, and win them all with an extra time stunner.

Till then, I'm still in the MoyesOut brigade.

Ridiculous to expect wins in all 3.. Those should be our standards but our current team isn't capable of them. Moyes should be judged by the midway point of next season - he needs to get rid of the older and unhappy players, and get the team playing good football again. If not, he should be sacked then.

Have we lowered out standard that much? Even the bookies still have us as favourites against Pool next weekend.

It's anything but ridiculous to expect United to win 3 home games, especially when you're not even talking about the top teams in the world like Bayern, Real & co.

I think we should beat Pool. I think City are a better team than us - and will have more to play for.

I expect us to THUMP Olympiakos. If we play flat in that game, it will be a damning indictment on both Moyes and the players.

Reckon we'll have a strong finish to the season, should really be finishing 5th at the lowest. Not only that, Liverpool still have to play us, city, chelsea, and spurs.

You've won a game and already people are coming out and saying 4th is still on. Wonderful.

Good line up, good subs, good performance. Our best XI except for maybe Evans. Credit Moyes. Good to see Valencia and Cleverley jettisoned from the match day squad too.

Still makes it all the more annoying though that it's obvious that when you don't have Smalling at RB, no Valencia, Young and Cleverley that we play much better football. And shock horror, we score a couple of goals and build some confidence. It wasn't exactly rocket science and makes the Olympiacos shitefest more unpalatable.

Well said. Other than a reason to hope I don't see what today changes about most peoples position on Moyes.

I suppose it does highlight how emotional some people are about the whole situation though...

Its the same as saying you'll win the league, when you have better teams surrounding you in the top 4.
Except they're four off the top and we're 11 behind the top 4.

You guys are thoroughly deluded if you think 4th is going to happen. You just need to look at the gap in the quality of football between us and the current top 4 to realise that its not likely to happen. One result against West Brom isn't really building a head of steam.

In fact I'll go one further and say we won't beat Liverpool next week and this thread will be back to its "glory"

All it is is a plus in the pro moyes column. I don't know why people can't accept that there are some pluses. In a few days time people will say 'there hasn't been one plus this season' again, but winning 3-0 away to West Brom is a good result, and we've had good results and good performances this season no matter how much people hate to admit it. If someone say's this is turning a corner they're just as big an idiot as the people who wanted Moyes out in October, short termism gets nobody anywhere. I just hope (as someone who wants united to do well and realises he has no control over manager situation) that we keep building on this in the next 3 weeks, but as always it's not the end of the world if we don't win the next four games

We've said 1 step forward and 2 steps back all season long. Lets see if he actually sees what we saw today and keeps a good level of consistency and keeps certain players out of the team.

I agree with the rest of your post, but we did just get 3/4 prem wins and a draw in Emirates in the other game. Should you not being saying '3/4 prem wins and a draw at Emirates is not building a head of steam'. I'm not saying we are building a head of steam, but no point purposely making things sound worse than they are

I didn't say it was going to happen, don't words in my mouth.
