I agree with the rest of your post, but we did just get 3/4 prem wins and a draw in Emirates in the other game. Should you not being saying '3/4 prem wins and a draw at Emirates is not building a head of steam'. I'm not saying we are building a head of steam, but no point purposely making things sound worse than they are
Last 5 league matches: Win at WBA, Win against Palace. Draw against Arsenal, Draw against Fulham, Loss to Stoke.

Thats 2 wins, 2 draws and a loss. Of which three teams are in the bottom five in the league currently.

It was an improvement though nothing special until RVP went off. Rooney and RVP were both awful until then. Maybe Moyes will pick up on it?

Anyway, it was a good performance against a team in the bottom five. Not exactly proof that he's good enough. Maybe if he can get wins against Liverpool and/or City he'll warrant some faith. I won't hold my breath.

Yeah, it was a good result today. More than that Moyes got the decisions right, he deserves a 'well done'.

But West Brom are a side facing relegation - as are Crystal Palace - and to expect anything other than a win against teams like this, with the value of our team, is a lowering of expectations.

In fact, we haven't beaten a team in the top half of the league since we beat Arsenal in November...

I'll be looking to the Liverpool, City and Everton games to judge any real improvement. I think this is fair.

Yeah, this game doesn't mean much if moyes goes right back to what he's continuously done in the big games next week. Just like after the palace game, 1 good performance against a bottom side and then a few days later reverts to Valencia and young on the wings to be defensive in a big game. Here's his chance to show he's learned from his mistakes, but for some reason I doubt he will. He's made the same mistake, and put out negative lineup with negative tactics in big games almost every time.

Hes always shown that hes been learning in the job the problem remains whether he will be stubborn and go back to a 442 when we play the big sides. Maybe hes realised a 4231 is the way to go in the league but thought in the UCL 442 would be better. If that is the case then we will have to wait and see what we do against the big sides and Olympiacos

It's getting rather silly in here where too much focus and energy is spent on Moyes. It is possible despite the coaches best efforts and set-up of the team being ideal the players can have a bad day and other team excels.

Very true but as long as he tries to play the best possible set-up in most matches then the criticism will never be as fierce as they can be.

I don't really understand what you're talking about. How does that have anything to do with current discussion?

Moyes is being praised for today.

Are you getting your excuses in early for the Liverpool, Olympiakos, City games?

:wenger:

I don't know the last time I used that smiley.

I don't think it can be any other way when you get a new manager after 26 years. Focus will be on him, it only makes sense.

I didn't see the second half today so I can't say too much. I didn't think the first was particularly good, as the bottom line was that once again we barely created anything. I'll just reserve judgement until a few more games were played. We've had the odd good performance and result here and there anyway.

There was a bit more fluidity and structure to our performance today. However, this discussion underlines how much of a let down this season has been. Under normal circumstances this game would be regarded as an 3 points.

It was a good performance today, granted west brom are poor but we have failed to perform against similar sides on several occasions so it was encouraging. I thought Fellaini was excellent, dominated the midfield and he was everywhere. Some of the football when we got our confidence going was great to watch, it shows it is there in the team and Moyes is willing to play a fluid attacking style, a timely boost ahead of the dippers.

All it is is a plus in the pro moyes column. I don't know why people can't accept that there are some pluses. In a few days time people will say 'there hasn't been one plus this season' again, but winning 3-0 away to West Brom is a good result, and we've had good results and good performances this season no matter how much people hate to admit it. If someone say's this is turning a corner they're just as big an idiot as the people who wanted Moyes out in October, short termism gets nobody anywhere. I just hope (as someone who wants united to do well and realises he has no control over manager situation) that we keep building on this in the next 3 weeks, but as always it's not the end of the world if we don't win the next four games

Nicely put.

I've been sick in bed all day so didn't see the game, but the general consensus is that he got it spot on today, yeah?

Somebody needs to tell him that once the team does well in a game, it might be a good idea to stick with it for another game or two if the players are not tired. That will be a start. He has this habit of self destruction.

Yes,
very similar setup & performance to the Palace game, some sloppy passing in the first half and we struggled a bit to break them down, but once we scored we looked comfortable,
they created a few bits and pieces, no guilt edge chances however, once the 2nd went in we looked dominant and looked to play a bit like we did under SAF. Fellaini and Smalling in particular looked very solid, if Moyes plays like that more often with the same personnel we should do well from here on out.

The first goal holds so much significance for Moyes' United I suppose. If we don't score first we've pretty much always dropped points, there's been such a fine line this season.

Careful - I got warned for daring to post a single green smiley. Obviously the same judgement will be dished out to you...

I'm just curious - what purpose exactly does that snipe fulfill? You might pretend there's nothing but a touch of humour to it, but there's obviously a lot of bitterness beneath the layers, too.

Does it make Sultan apologize for whatever damage, real or perceived, he has done to you ego? Will it make him see your side of the argument? Does it in some way alleviate your anger? Do you think it will enhance your reputation as a 'daring rebel' on this forum? Does expressing your bitterness about being put on probation somehow make you forget it? Will someone read that and 'right the wrong' done to you? Do you feel dramatic/heroic/smart making such comments? Will Jaybezia become your BFF?

I have no intention to 'preach' to you. I've read and commented on your posts, I think they're well written, and that you are a quite intelligent and rational poster, probably much older than I am. It is just weird watching such people suddenly stoop down to do something of such childish folly.

As you were.:)

I hope he has the bollocks to go out and attack Liverpool next weekend. The likes of Mata and van Persie can make a mockery of some of Liverpool's defenders. C'mon Moyes, feckin' attack them!

Somebody should tell David that picking teams like the one he did today will make his life a hell of a lot easier. Read pages 7-10 of the match day thread, we're all excited. He picked a very good team and guess what? We won.

His short time in charge has seemed like an exercise in self-destruction with his constant strange decisions when it comes to the team. I might not like his tactics, but the team selection has been half the battle. More of the same please.

I hope you come at us too. Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling on the counter.

The story of David Moyes' Manchester United, one step forward, two steps back. His seeming incapability to learn and develop has been massively frustrating, but it has to come sometime, right?

True, they've always given us a torrid time. Suarez has always impressed against Manchester United, that time he racially abused our captain being a highlight really.

This football we played is what we should have started to do back in August and tried to develop it. Moyes will have to have the courage to fight his instinctive nature of cautious football.
That's the frustrating thing, it was so obvious.

Fingers crossed. If we played the same team in our next two games then there will be few complaints. It's possible that we may criticise his tactics in the event of losses, or lack of goals, but at least we'll know that he has the right idea of what kind of player should be starting for the club right now, and more importantly, in the future.

It's been much more obvious since half our team hasn't been out injured and we brought in Mata in fairness. At one point our actual best team had valencia giggs hernandez and rio in it with smalling at right back. Missing Mata in europe will affect the team this but hopefully Moyes can send the right lads out next weekend

And I don't mean to be a sourpuss, but I think we all know that it's going to be a disaster. I hope to hell I'm wrong, but I hold no hope but to just wish we don't get completely embarrassed by Pool and Shitty. Moyes really is clueless and completely out of his depth.

Bit of an exaggeration in regards to the injuries, but I get what your saying :). However, I believe we have had the players, I just don't think Moyes had the belief in them. We could have played a front four of Kagawa, Rooney, Welbeck and Januzaj for example. Yes Mata has helped matters but we still have bundles of ability in our squad.
The last two games in the Premiership has given us something we have been crying out for, direction, the team has looked organised, disciplined and focused. If Moyes keeps this up and doesn't switch back to his safe mode, then we may finally have something to look forward to. Fingers crossed.

If we don't get a top four finish then he should be sacked. No questions asked, sacked.

I'd be fine with top 5, Europe and top 3 next season. Gotta build a new foundation and evolve, which takes time.
