What if the Carpenter was John Carpenter?

I said in an earlier post about Gary Neville being in a compromised position thanks to his brother being a coach here and it making it very difficult to criticise the current regime for him and as a result to take what he says with a pinch of salt but equally maybe it's worth listening to him more than anyone. I'm not saying take his word as gospel but I think listening to what he says could be quite revealing.

His brother is going to have told him everything and he's going to relay it back as his opinion. If he says players aren't giving their all for Moyes, it's because players aren't giving their all for Moyes. If he says it's essential we play with wingers because that's the traditions of this club, it's because Phil and the other coaches have taken this point of view.

Yes I thought it was reasonable too. Just a little difference of opinion at first but no harm done in the end.

Dare I say it even managed to lighten the thread up a bit.

It's a shit analogy an' all.

When was the last time a carpenter turned up at a job to be told he wasn't allowed to use his own tools and would have to use whatever bits of wood he could find at the site?

Lance-Corporal Smith. Stalag 5, 1940. "Permission to build a wooden latrine for the NCO prisoners Herr Leutnant?"

you are joking right??????
Partly, but a part of me thinks that if we are going to keep playing the same brand of football we've shown most of this season then we would find more use for someone like Carroll than van Persie who's poor in the air.

That's a quite amazingly stupid idea.

I know you're only suggesting it to imply that the only way we've tried to score goals this season is by punting hopeful high balls into the box (LOLZ!!) but that's almost as dumb tbh.

It's been our most prominent source of attack. Carroll would suit our current set up more so than Van Persie does. It isn't all that "dumb." One of Moyes' major tactics is to whip balls in from deep areas.

If the club insists on persisting with Moyes we might as well get the players in to exploit his tactical attributes. We've already got Fellaini.

Out - Kagawa and RvP
In - Lennon and Carroll

Should be good value in those signings too, since no other top teams would have the slightest interest in either.

Of course it's dumb. People seem to think our entire season has been the Fulham game, repeated every weekend. This blatantly isn't the case. Certainly not to a point where you would even dream of replacing Robin Van Persie with a fecking cart-horse like Andy Carroll.

You don't even need to think all that far back for games where our main emphasis was on trying to create goals while keeping the ball on the deck. Our most recent two league games, for starters.

It's not been like Fulham, no, but we do play a large percentage of long balls and deep crosses into the box towards Rooney and Van Persie. It's a Moyes tactic and we've been at it all season. I remember the Sunderland and Southampton games during the early part of the season were particularly bad. If we replaced Carroll with Van Persie it's arguable that our football would be more effective, with him knocking it down to Rooney in and around the box. It's laughable, but we play the percentages.

Roy Carroll reckons some United fans might begin to lose patience soon. Whatever gave him that idea?

Most of our attacks have gone down the wings and crossing the ball does seem like Plan A, even if we disregard Fulham game which was just culmination.

You could just stick Fellaini further forward like at Everton. To be fair, he is a real handful when played in that position. "Take a look and you will see, football taught by Matt Busby David Moysie".

I've just looked at the league table and I still can't believe what I'm seeing, it doesn't feel real. Moyes really has messed up this season, now there's talk that RVP could be gone in the summer along with rumours that Kagawa, Hernandez and Nani want out or are being kicked out. Add Anderson, Rio, Evra, Giggs and Vidic to that list and that's a large chunk of our squad.

I have absolutely no faith that Moyes will be able to build a squad capable of challenging at the top, let alone the top 4. Sir Alex said he left the club in great shape, so what's changed? Why do we need to spend £200m to challenge again? Why are we getting rid of so many players? Why are so many players unhappy? All these questions need answered plus much much more, but they never are.

I fully believe that Moyes will be given another season and a bucket load of money to spend, that worries me, worries me more than our form, or our current league position, giving a man who has never challenged for the league let alone won a trophy the responsibility to rebuild one of the biggest clubs in the world, you couldn't make it up.
He's shown nothing to suggest he's the man for the job, he's added nothing to the club, he's deteriorated as the seasons progressed instead of improving, our players look deflated, uninterested, and look lost.

well...if all those did leave, yeah that is basically a whole team. That is one massive rebuilding job. Maybe keane is right...united will have to buy 5 or 6 top or topish players this summer.

Actually, let's say hypethetically they did all leave. How much cash would that lot generate?

Rvp we could get £20m for, £10for nani, £15m for kagawa, £15m for Hernandez, the £5m for Andersona no the others are all free. So we could probably expect £55-70m for the lot of them, and shit load in wages.

We're FOURTEEN POINTS behind Liverpool for feck's sake. I fecking despair.

It doesn't surprise me that some of our best players want out, or that they look so bereft of confidence in themselves and each other.

They're perennial winners who have been lumbered with a perennial loser for a leader. All of their worst suspicions about him at the beginning of the season must have been confirmed and then some. How are they supposed to have confidence in his instructions? By its nature that isn't something that can be demanded literally.

Yet we are being told that "it is the United way" to keep hold of this loser no matter how many valuable assets must be sacrificed. You could not fecking make it up.

Well, a Liverpool fan could.

I guess more than that. Kagawa, RVP, Nani and Chicharito should generate around 50m IMO. We'll pay then those money for Baines and Coleman
It's depressing thinking about it, why not just get rid of the clown?

Like in the Palace game when he went forward into the box more than he has all season......only to see us play the ball on the ground through the middle more than we have all season. Not that I'm advocating using the tactics from the Fulham game, but it's that type of disconnect with Moyes between his squad selection and his tactics that is just mind boggling.

Players not giving their all has to be down to Moyes to a large extent. I really feel that he's lost this team. I've seen it happen to the teams I support in other sports when things are going down hill and the players lose faith in the coach/manager. I see the same signs, body language, etc. here. A game is not all about tactics and squad selction. A manager has to motivate his team, and he's not doing it.
