Mourinho to United | Officially Announced

I'm still loving how people like Redknapp say Mourinho doesn't give youth a chance, he's been at clubs with a barren youth academy with no prospects.

If he was at Barcelona or United with players coming through of course they would get debuts.

Does anyone have a link to the Portuguese documentary that the intro from that compilation is from? I have seen it years ago but can't find it again.

Look at Messi and Ronaldo, it's more to do with the players fitness and body shape than anything else. Regardless of whether Rooney played early or not hos body shape would hamper him as he got older, Owen was just injury prone.

Well yes partly both those players are genetically gifted, very few players get injured as rarely as they do and consistently play 50-60 games year in year out while also maintaining extremely high performance levels. Two cases doesn't prove the good enough/old enough cliche either way.

Also neither of those players played as many games as Rooney did between the ages of 16-20, and neither of those players were playing around 40 games a season in a physical league like the PL from the age of 16.

And yes Owen was injury prone, he was injury prone most likely because he was played too much as a youngster. And was continually rushed back from injuries. He himself thinks this is the case as does another guy who knows a thing or two about football called Alex Ferguson.

I'm not saying every player who plays a lot of games as a teenager will burn out early and decline before they are 30 every player is different, but it would be silly to ignore the evidence that it does happen to a lot of players. And with a promising talent like Rashford is it really worth the risk for a club of United's resources to not get a more experienced striker in to share the workload until he develops further?

I think I'm excited about the expected arrival of Mourinho, I may feel it a bit more when it's announced.
Will this be a short term fix, which quite honestly is what we need at the moment. I'd like to think Jose will stay for 5,8,10 years and turn us into a force on the pitch again but can't help thinking 2 or 3 years and he's on the move again. But is this the norm nowadays, will we ever see another long term manager staying 10 years plus at any club, will we have to switch from one manager to another every few years.
Even without Champions League football Jose will attract players to Manchester United and it will be ....interesting.

I really really don't want Giggs involved this time with Mourinho. Hes been a part of two failed management teams. Bring back Scholes/Keane/Beckham/Neville. Giggs has had his chance here and needs to go away and atleast try and prove himself.

Van Gaal, who has been given a £5million pay-off on top of £400,000 for winning the FA Cup, has been made to pay for United's poor Premier League campaign and will be replaced by former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.

Sorry, who has been made to pay? :wenger:

His contract is being paid up in full, so basically he has worked for 2 years for 3 years money.

"United are also reported to have paid Mourinho £4m earlier this season to stop him agreeing to join someone else before they were ready to decide on their own management issues.https://www.theguardian.com/football/live/2016/may/23/manchester-united-louis-van-gaal-jose-mourinho"

Utter repulsive bullshit if true. Shows football up for the shitshow it is and how deep we are in it. (We have amongst the most suicide-not regrettable owners in world sport.) Welcome, Jose. But pay it back.

After loosing out on Ancellotti I think this was a good move by the club

It was an insurance policy because we fully planned to keep Van Gaal in case we reached top 4. That's how this club works now. Revenues have taken a backseat to football.

I agree, that it is repulsive bullshit.

Asquire Me. What was your source then?
He already said mate. Can't remember which thread it was in. If anyone knows?

Short version - works in marketing. has a friend who works at Adidas I think in Germany. Marketing team there were informed about the managerial change from December...

I am lazy, so here is a copy from a private message. I told one guy on the caf some time ago and this is what I told him:

I work with marketing in a firm in Norway and we got a lot of business in Europe and the US. My firm got no business with Man Utd, just to be clear on that. Though I have a friend working with Adidas in Herzogenaurach in Germany. Hainer had meetings with some of Man Utds powermen in december and after that he informed some in the marketing department that United had signed a new manager who was world class and recently became available.

They now work with marketing for next season. A new manager is very important for the marketing for next season, so thats why they had to know.

I feel 100% confident that I will not look like a ass when we announce something about the manager situation when the season is finished.

Can't find anything on Geocities. Not even Geocities.

Interesting and I agree with Simon stone on a lot of things.

Why can't they just have more journalists as pundits, instead of footballers who know nothing.
