Mourinho not happy with transfer window - Exclusive interview with Ogden

If Mourinho is settling for only one more signing then I'd say it's a DM we're looking for.

He had a fair point but I wish he wouldnt use media against his own colleague and boss!!

I think Jose and Ed have different views on how the deals should be concluded. I don’t think Woodward realises the importance of bringing the players into the fold as early as possible. I think Ed may think he can negotiate - which takes more time - but still get the signings through the door. Jose is known for getting his transfers in early.

I’d say it’s a winger. After all our main problem last year was opening teams up. Also, still having concerns over Martial. Not saying he’s a bad player, far from it. But I just think he’s not
Jose’s type. Could be wrong though.

The City game proved to me DMF and a winger are urgently needed. I don't think only one of them will be enough any more.

I've been clamouring for better fullbacks for a long time now. One that can help us utilise the players we have who are inclined to be more central and provide width when teams park the bus at home.

It seems we've put all our eggs into the winger basket though. Shame, because seeing Marcelo tear teams apart in the CL shows how important fullbacks are.

The only problem I see at this point is lack of depth. Rojo, Ibra, Shaw, and Young are out for months (assuming Ibra intends to return), so we need a couple more players or at least a young player or two to step up in the interim.
We need a midfielder, an injury to Pogba/herrera and we are down to fellaini and Carrick which is a huge gap in quality. I think we can do without Perisic but we need a midfielder more than anything.

Tbf, there's no fullback like Marcelo out there. He's a better attacker than a majority of attacking players.

But I do think we need a LB. Mendy would be a good buy, but don't think we're interested in him.

Looks more of a request and not a warning when seen in full. He is asking Woodward to get the job done quickly so he can use get the new players ready and in his philosophy as soon as possible. Pressure on Woody, says very openly he isnt involved in negotiating (which i dont think most managers arent) .

Am sure Woodward understand these nuances and if not Mourinho has already educated him on his preferences.

The reason is the new dynamic where uber rich click can't bully others any more because they don't have financial pressure to sell.

Thats happening for first time so you can't bully the markwt to get what you want when you want for how much you want.

Why can't he call Woodward and not speak via media?

Unless it's agreed between them as a message to fans to chill out.

You dont think he wont be doing that?
Its simple, he wants woodward to quicken up and the best way possible is to put pressure from media as woody has always been the kind of guy who brags about how big his dick is.
Privately he must be frustrated with woodward's approach of haggling for few million or not doing it quick enough that he has to go public to put him under pressure. Ultimately woodward wont be sacked if the team doesnt do well and Mourinho is in every right to get the right conditions to succeed.
Woodward has always said united can do things in transfer market that other clubs can only dream off, he needs to deliver on these talks. I know griezmann not signing really fecked us up,but still he needed to move on to other targets especially midfield where manager demands improvement. Hopefully the Juve guy we have brought in can provide some know how in this regard

Can understand why he's saying such things. We definitely need a few more players. Our left side is woefully lacking in quality.

Great tactic going in public like that. Win win for JM. Bet those who have what JM want cant wait to see Woodward`s face now.

I think he's just not a left winger, I think he loved being up front for us and wants to continue that. Part of me feels like Mourinho will fancy him for lesser sides or if Lu or Rashford need a rest.

Woodward should brief the media that Mourinho's job is in danger if he doesn't win the PL this season.

7th 4th 5th 6th while buying tons of players at huge cost. I'd suggest transfers aren't necessarily the answer to problems we may have.

I think if anything, it's sort of what sammsky1 said, they agreed on something. But a little different, it's to take pressure off to the manager and onto Woodward (deliberately). The board would much rather have people upset with Woodward than Mourinho, since we won't really think about Woodward till the winter window, then again till summer. I'm sure they have been discussing.

We definitely need to contend for the title.

Been 4 seasons since we've done so. Way too long.

Hopefully the signings Jose wants improve the team. Still don't think Perisic would improve us much nor would Dier/Matic imo, but if they came, hopefully I am wrong.
I think Perisic would be perfect for how we are playing. I am more concerned that we need another body in that midfield. Not necessarily a DM even. The drop in quality if Ander/Paul were out would be terrible. Periera will get his chances, but we need more.

Lw is okish with martial, rashford and mkhitaryan able to play there. Dm is the problem. We got 1 dm and hes a former playrr in all but name

True but someone in the same mould. An attacking full back who can get to the byline and create overloads in the last third of the pitch.

Still say we get two.

Of course we will. The deadline is 1st September. Loads of time left and we did well to get two in for preseason. Four was always unrealistic.

Our left side is woefully lacking in quality.

Yep. None of our left wingers were good enough last season and our left backs were even worse. Perisic (or an alternative option) can't come soon enough.

Mourinho should cool it with his comments. This stuff will be music to the ears of Inter and other clubs we are trying to buy from.

Yeah true that, not so sure of its effectiveness and if it really helps other than maybe create tension between them. But then again its Jose, I'd expect something like that from him. Don't think Fergie ever had to do it at least in my lifetime.

Never been a fan of managers talking too much with the media. feck them, there's no need to be so open with them.

Technically its not for them, its for us the fans. But yeah, I get you. They end up spinning it into garbage usually.
This won't go down well but there's no need to keep the fans informed about what's going on in the market either. What's going on behind the scenes should stay there.

Why is he wittering on about who West Ham have bought? Hardly comparable is it. Prat

It's a coded message to Woodward mate. He's basically saying that WH's transfer strategy is showing their massive ambition for the coming season. It's a thinly veiled attempt to get a few more signings over the line.

If there are no further players bought, then I won't blame Mourinho when we fail to even mount a title charge.

An injury to any one of Lukaku, Pogba, Herrera or Valencia and as it stands, we are fecked.

I know what he's doing. My point is West Ham signing Hart, Arnautovic and Chicarito is not comparable to our transfer market difficulties. We're shopping in Waitrose and they're shopping in Asda.

Oh I agree mate, it was an odd comment for sure.

I haven't seen the interview, but was he asked about Chicharito signing for West Ham? That may be the reason why WH were on the tip of his tongue when he said this.

Carefully now, you will cause the Muppets to riot.
I'm find with it as long as it doesn't hurt us in the market, like drive up the price or some thing like that. Maybe Jose's desperation aired like that give other clubs ammunition to hold us ransom for bigger fees. But nevertheless I like me some juicy inside info now and then, so I'd take it from the horses month.
